Should be OK unless you're a clot and try to measure voltage on the amps range. Proper multimeters contain a fuse which will safely handle that; this meter will just vapourise. :grin:

I can vouch for the fact that even a proper fluke will turn to a molten mess when you do that at 1000v :joy:

Ugh! But at least it will beep furiously at you if you plug the probe into the 10A socket and select volts.

I prefer 4 terminal multimeters, as it strikes me as rather too easy to flick the knob to the amp range after you've hooked it up, especially if you'd last turned it off using the OFF setting on the right hand side. :smile:
I think this is probably a rebadged zotek 101, in which case it does have a couple of fuses, unfortunately they are tiny ones with not enough separation between the terminals for a respectable amount of voltage.

Yes, I agree, and also that the switch has to handle significant current rather than just being a signalling device, which means it has to be made to a certain standard.
The trouble with the fuses isn't so much their separation but their rupture current - they have to absorb a large amount of energy if you connect the thing across a low impedance supply. Small fuses will just explode.

I bought a cheap multimeter online to check my car battery, but for any AC work (and then only if I was suitably qualified) I think I would be wanting something costing a little more than £8.46
