Husband asked me to find him a 3.5mm audio jack, came across this for 99p delivered at Amazon, I've had a quick look & could find nothing cheaper & the other items they sell seem to have decent reviews, so thought it worth a punt since it has 1 Year Warranty for Manufacturing defects and 30 day money back guarantee

Your husband will be disappointed. This is a jack plug, the jack is a socket.

What do you mean by socket

A socket is what you put the plug into.

Are these ok for an echodot to an amp or speaker?

As a rule of thumb you should spend aprox 10% of the value of the device on the cable, per meter. This statement is not a given and can vary by device but is a general rule that can be applied to A/V equipment, obviously price is not always a valid indicator of quality and there are some bad expensive cables and some good cheap cables but following the 10% rule should ensure you get the best from your device.

So you would pair a 99p cable up with a £500 amp then ?

It's a cable, with a bit of metal in it, so yeah!!!
dozstanford to M0RPH
11 Sep 17#15
Then why buy a £500 amp, why just buy a £50 one, after all it's just a metal box isn't it
M0RPH to dozstanford
11 Sep 17#19
No, there's a lot more expertise and equipment in the amp than the cable. Sorry, but what goes into your £50 cable to make it worthwhile?

If you do not know, or understand the process of transmission of an analogue signal through metal wire and how the quality of such cable can interfere with the signal and other factors such as directional cables I'm not wasting my time educating you, if you (theoretically) owned a £500 amp and coupled it with pound shop cables, and your happy then that's all that counts, right ?

If you're going to put someone else down then you could at least get your grammar right, especially if you're actually mentioning 'educating' someone (irony).
To the rest of us, I thought I'd share this review on solid silver Ethernet cable which makes music stored on a NAS sound better as it's part of your 'playback chain': audiostream.com/con…ble

Reading the review, I thought it was a parody. Reading the comments and the fights he gets into, I am less sure he is winding up the commenters or sucking up to his paymasters!

I don't normally get involved in these sorts of conversations and no doubt I'll regret this but here goes...
People do say spend X % of your budget on cables. Those people are in the business of promoting cables. Hifi mags say it because they are sponsored. Sales assistants say it because they make money selling cables.
Generally, people make these claims over speaker cable or interconnects, not 3.5mm leads.
Laws of physics say that sure, cables have different qualities (such as silver v copper for conductance, or even x-sectional area giving difference), but those differences are not audibly measurable (often not measurable at all) other than one cable maybe being louder than another - which in itself is psychologically perceived as sounding better, but is only a difference in volume. Its ok to spend a bit more money, if it gets you something more robust, or meets your installation requirement better (e.g. flat cable, or even cable that is aesthetically pleasing), but honestly, there is no audible reason to spend money on cable. If one cable sounds bad, it's likely defective.
If you want to spend more, and it makes you happy to do so, great. But don't encourage others to, please.

Flex 13amp mains cable is good for hi-fi speakers.
Can't for the life of me why I need this cable but at this price it's screaming at me, Buy me. Drat just did, damn you HUKD.

Are you really suggesting I should have spent £150 on the 3 metre long cable for my £500 amp? Good heavens.

Never seen any cables with a plug at 45 degree angle before. Is it likely to put a strain on the socket and/or the cable?

This is the type of lead you'd use to connect an MP3 player (without Bluetooth) to a Bluetooth speaker.
A lead with a plug on one end and a socket on the other can be used as an extension lead for headphones.

Betron stuff seems good quality and value but their incessant demands for feedback is very annoying. I nearly gave them some, and it wouldn't have been five stars.
