Just ten days left until I cancel and I got a call yesterday from VM.
Currently on 50mb broadband at £25.70 a month. Said they would pay my next three months of bills and keep the price as it is for the duration of the new 12 month contract. Also to send their new router. I can go 100mb for £31.70 a month.

Decisions...

Absolutely disgusting company to deal with. Took up the offer and was given installation date of 30th September. Engineer arrived and said only been instructed to install tv and broadband not phone as oversubscribed in area. Virgin obviously didn't care to inform me of this prior to sending engineer out for the install. Rang them as the engineer left and was passed from department to department till finally spoke to preinstall dept. Told me there was no problems with being oversubscribed and would arrange for an engineer to come back out on the 4th of October to install phone. In the meantime the tv and broadband kept disconnecting and reconnecting from the service. Today the engineer came out only to repeat what the first engineer said on the 30th... instead of connecting phone, reconnected broadband and tv and commented on how badly virgin wee managing the install. 2 agreed installs later rang again to be passed from pillar to post only to be told they were going to charge £55 P/M due to not being able to install phone and this was the cost of the tv and broadband package I had been put on without the phone. Swiftly told them to stick it as was their fault didn't inform me sooner and due to sending engineers out twice to hook up phone only to fail to deliver. Told me if wasn't happy to cancel. Told him i wanted to put formal complaint to which i was told i couldnt if i was going to csncel...so it was a choice between cough up more money for a reduced service or suck it up and complain which they would probably do naff all about. Went through to cancellations who then told me it would take them 30 days to refund me. Absolute farce of a company...over 4 hours wasted on the phone and to top it off lost our number we were porting over from sky. No apology...not one advisor accepted responsibility just kept passing the buck and if I dared to speak against them cut me off or transferred to another random department. Brought back memories of why I left in the first place years ago. Hope this company dies a horrible death will never be taking out any of their services again...

I read it was 28 days money back guarantee on one part of virgins website when ordering/checking things then read on another page it's only 14 days. I've no idea what my actual rights are regarding cancelling it all. If its 14 days from installation then its this Wednesday. I've also noted that my contract states a date of 14th September even tho it wasn't installed until 21st late in day.

I have got Vivid 100 Player TV + Sky Sports + Free V6 Box + Free Installation for £32 a month on 12 months contact. No cash backs.

Currently on BT and have had no issues with BT on Infinity 1 (52MB). Consitently get around 47 MB/Sec. Their best offer was £31 a month for 12 months to renew it. I think the Virgin Deal is good. Have 30 days to cancel.

Well had virgin now since since last Friday.
Not impressed with the V6 box or the super fast fibre which isn't super fast.
I just can't get on with the tv box user interface it's awful. I've still got my Sky+ hd boxes so going to see if I can re activate my account and get a deal

I have the V6 box plus 200Mbs BB. I’m impressed with both.

On 5Ghz I get the full 200Mbs on my phone. On the congested 2.4Ghz which I guess most people will connect on I get around 30Mbs.

Also if testing your download speed on a phone app (Speedtest etc) then bear in mind the age of the phone. I’m a bit of a geek with download speed tests. Older devices will struggle to hit 100Mbs. Obviously a better check is to plug a modern computer into the router via ethernet to check your line speed reliably.

Also check out which router you have. The original Superhub was shocking. No point having super fast broadband with an old router.

I have the Superhub 2 ac which is very good and very stable. The latest router is called the Hub 3.0. Not sure what this is like.

The V6 box is impressive. I like the way it integrates catchup TV with what is available on the box. 6 months ago it wasn’t so stable. It would crash after watching iPlayer. That’s now been resolved and it seems very stable.

As mentioned by someone else already it’s important that the V6 box is connected to the internet by Ethernet cable (for catchup and remote recording). It has the capability to connect by WiFi but it’s not reliable at all.

The Virgin app is a complete pile of something. Not worth using.

On the whole I’m happy with Virgin. Had issues a few years back with BB speeds etc. All good now tho. Important to haggle prices each year to keep the cost down.

I've been with Virgin since February on their Player 50mb bundle. Had a letter last month about a price increase but saying I would get a free speed boost to 100mb later this year. Phoned up yesterday to ask when and was told there was nothing showing on my account and I would have to pay for a speed boost about £3/4 a month extra. This despite new customers now getting 100mb as standard! Will be leaving when 12 months is up I think!

It is same for me but I have sonos bridge connected. The ethernet connections on SH3 are shocking as sonos drops out every other day. Removing the rj45 and putting back springs it back into life - no reboots required. Sounds like the answer is put SH3 into cable mode and buy a router to mask as I don't believe virgin update the firmware on these and by God it is in desperate need of some.

I pay £33 for 78MB fiber get maybe 30 and constant drop outs when more than 1 device connected. We are avid gamers and I've called multiple times and complained and all they have offered is a new hub for £20. I also pointed out the 100mb is cheaper than I am paying now why don't I have that and all I got told was, because you don't. I've been a customer for 6+ years and all I get is broadband and "because you don't" for £33 a month and at least 3 trips to reset router a day.

Currently pay £25.99pm for Vivid 200 fibre I believe it’s called? With phone line rental and weekend calls. Not bothered with junk tv as we use our old sky box as freeview if need be and stream everything else nowadays; Netflix/ ShowBox/iPlayer nothing more needed. Call VM before price increase deadlines & sound adamant you wish to cancel because of it and you should get it the extra credited back to you. :sunglasses:

pathetic customer service, complete liars , tell you one thing on the phone and when you get the bill its completely different. I was on 150 meg for £19.99 per month , have been a loyal customer. Recently i moved to a new address, thought id take my service with me, instaed of paying early disconnection fee, they said it would be no problem, i will only pay a £20 installation fee and will keep the same package 150meg at £19.99. just before the installation they said i couldnt have that anymore and had to have a new contract. gave me 50 meg for £27 permonth and sent me a bill of £174 for early disconnection fee. i have since cancelled my old direct debit and phoned them to complain, i have a recording of the caht with the woman telling me that she will take care of the disconnection fee from old address, i dont trust them , i still cancelled the direct debit for the old address..that way they cant take the money out..theiving barstewards..!!! :rage:

I've always found Virgin very reliable but agree that they are always putting up their prices.

I had finally had enough this month when they notified me of another price rise so I phoned up and said "put me on a new customer deal or im leaving" as this was about £10 cheaper than what I would be paying once the price rise kicked in. They said "impossible" so I told them to start the disconnection process.

A few days later I get a call from their customer retention team. One simple conversation later and I'm getting Player TV, vivid 200Mb and weekend calls for £27 a month. That's £20 less than I was paying and £15 less than the new customer price advertised on their website.

Just goes to show you have to haggle with VM and be prepared to walk away.

The Puma issue has nothing to do with Wifi... it is a problem with Puma-based modems which connect to an Arris CMTS that causes problems over DOCSIS.

You have to call VM as they use their own network, it's not difficult. They might try to offer you cheaper / better deal if so just ask them this question.. "If you could offer it to me for £39 why are you currently charging me £45?". Then state you wish to leave and give 30 days notice. They will tell you the day you will be disconnected, job done.

Apparently they will send a box to return their kit, I'm still waiting for them to do that. If it arrives I'll send it back, They took final payment, I have cancelled the DD with my bank, and if they attempt to take anymore I will contest it. Job done..

No its just the superhub 3 is rubbish, nothing to do with signal strength.
the__cat to jaddy
21 Sep 17 #33
No it actually is. I have a SH3 and it's fine.

Let's say you have a SH3 in the next room. If you have a -79dBm received signal (RSSI) with a SNR of 11dB, that's bad. You'd probably only be able to achieve around 20-25Mbps max. at 5GHz using 802.11n (40MHz channel-width) with a client capable of 1x1:1. Now, if you go into the same room as the SH3 and get a signal of -67dBm with a SNR of 22dB, that's relatively good. You would probably be able to sustain a data-rate of around 80-90Mbps instead.

These values are important and dictate the data-rates that your device will be able to achieve in order to sustain a connection to the AP.

It's a shame the upload speed is so crap with Virgin. You have to get their 300mbps down just to get 20mbps up.
jalaldevil to Rastafari
21 Sep 17 #31
What are you uploading that you need over 20mbps? Unless you're uploading over 12gbs of data every date I would say anything of 10mbps is overkill.

Even browsing/gaming won't take more than 500mb per day.
Rastafari to jalaldevil
21 Sep 17 #32
I have several security cameras that I monitor remotely. I'd consider Virgin's 200 down 12 up but not less than that. Currently I have Sky's 80 down 20 up (get 70/20) and it works well.
AndiTails to Rastafari

Although not on the site, if you ring up you can get Vivid 200 Gamer which is 200/20 for £5pcm onto of the 200/12 price.

Personally, I'm on HomeWorks+ 300/20 and it's great. Always a UK call centre and I next day SLA on all faults, even if I ring up at 7pm, 8am next day I have an engineer. I WFH at least once a week, and work in video content production, so move large files into the cloud a lot.
Rastafari to AndiTails

Just left them because of continuous price increases and their “100mb broadband speed” only ever reaching 20mb at most. 7 month’s to look at a known fault on their broadband fibre with no guarantee the speed would ever reach 100mb. Absolutely appalling customer service lately.

I've had similar problems since day one. TV and phone fine but broadband is very unreliable. Very slow never been anywhere near 50mb . Can stream any programmes if a computer is running. the__cat to jaddy
21 Sep 17 #26
Usually t'other way round. 2.4GHz is congested in most areas whereas 5GHz is a lot less susceptible as there are more channels available to use.

Saying that, 2.4GHz propagates better through obstacles than 5GHz so it might just be that you need to relocate the router or add an additional access point to increase coverage and throughput.

As much as it pains me I have to say I'm really happy with virgins btoadband. With sky is get about 5mbs and with virgin I've had speeds of up to 140mbs on the PS4 and abiut 90mbs on the Xbox (No idea why the difference!) But I'm not happy about all these bloody increases and how being loyal means bigger all. I know someone who just joined for £28 a month!! Getting tv, bb and phone. Admittedly virgin took months to install so this reduced amount is a goodwill gesture. I got the letter and will be calling up for retentions once I've got some decent comparisons to say I'll leave them for.

Same situation here. I'm happy with Sky but price is set to rocker and they are not interested in offering me a decent deal to stay. They will get 1 more chance later today or I'm taking this deal.

I have got the new v6 box and 200mb broadband and if you don’t mind constantly rebooting it and on demand freezing a lot you will be fine

V6 box is screwed when V BB goes down, idiot decision to make catch up etc and epg go via V BB, litterally they could have sold VirginTV/V6 services to anybody over any broadband if they wanted. Other than that a good box.
are you Ethernet or Wi-fi ? Wi-fi causes the issues, never had a issue once with Ethernet, if it still happens they will give you a new V6

Seems this only comes with the tivo 500, the v6 box looks to be an extra £50 upfront?
