Yes, I'm experiencing a reduction in funds. Heat.

In before the muppets here downvote because a new one *might* be released in an undetermined time scale.

The v3 are excellent, very bright, accurate colours. Can't see how much of an improvement the next gen might be.

Does Hue or any other company sell a golf ball type E27 bulb that can be controlled by Alexa?

Have a look at IKEA Tradfri. They do what looks like a golf ball, but it's E14 so will need an adapter.

Is it compatible with Alexa?

Yes, IKEA recently updated their bulbs to be compatible with Hue, Alexa, Google and Siri.
You need to have the latest firmware update which is 1.2.217. Current stock in IKEA may therefore need updating, so you'll need the Tradfri hub to do that. In a few months, bulbs should come with the latest firmware.

True that they have updated the firmware on their bulbs but they do not work with any of the smart home 'assistants' yet. The firmware update was a prep for functionality to be switched on later this year.
Just saying, in case OP goes to ikea today and thinks it's faulty when Alexa doesn't work with tradfri!

Yes, for a Tradfri bulb to work directly with Alexa it will need the Tradfri hub, and that update is due in October. IKEA updated the bulbs which do now work with Hue, but did not update their hub. IKEA's press release was confusing and they subsequently withdrew/clarified it.
Sorry for the confusion. :kissing_heart:

Question for you, if the Tradfri bulbs work with Philips Hue today, does that mean I can use Google Home with them already (assuming that Google Home just thinks Tradfri bulbs are just Hue bulbs)?
Thanks in advance!

Tradfri bulbs have now been updated to the same ZigBee standard as Hue bulbs (ZLL), so that sounds like anything that connects to or sees bulbs via that same standard should connect to the Tradfri bulbs - ie see a Tradfri bulb just as a Hue bulb. But I don't use Google Home, so best to do a bit of research to be sure. Can't you ask Google Home? Lol. :kissing_heart:

Coloured bulbs are appealing but I find i use them very little in reality, I have them in my living room in lamps and lights and in the games room again in both... the living room would of been better with just ambient lights, and the games room I might dim them to blue for watching movies or action games but otherwise again ambience is the best solution..
The colours are better if you are gogin to use alot of IFTTT integration using the colours as visual alerts examples turning blue when temps drop or red if they go high.. but really they are a bit of a novelty..
I find that ambience lights are great for the main rooms of your house, Living rooms, Dining rooms etc.. then for the rest of the house the Hue Whites are perfectly fine.

Good price, and there hasn't been a lot of Hue deals recently, hopefully a few more come black Friday.
Love my current hue set up. Comes into its own with Alexa and I've also got some of my hue bulbs synced up to my philips ambilight TV

How do these compare with the Xiaomi Yeelights that are going for about £7?

The £7 is white only, but the colour is only £15 is a good deal compared to the hue. Depends what you want from it, the hue are the only ones to connect to philips ambilight TVs, limited market I know but thats my set up. There is no central hub with the xiaomi which sounds like a good thing (one less thing plugged into the house) but because of that there is no Zigbee compatibility and they are not compatible with Apple Home Kit. I maybe wrong but I don't think there are any physical accessories available for the Yeelight range either like motion sensors, physical switches like the dimmer switch etc. Of course if you don't need any of those then the yeelights are a fantastic price for what they do.

no they are not. coloured xiomi lights are going for under £7. ive bought a few at that price. I love the xioami lights. mainly because no extra hub required. just plug in the lights, register them on the app and go.

They have been popping up on the site literally every day for the last few days. Codes go pretty quick. I was skeptical too but bought 1 to try and now think they are awesome.

Just wish I had any light fittings these would fit!

You can get converters that change the fitting type from amazon or eBay for a couple of pounds. I've got a couple of hue ambient white bulbs using them with no problem.

Sunken GU10 ceiling bulbs would look rather weird with converters and bayonet lamps hanging out of them

Agreed. Though some folks would be looking to use these with bayonet type fittings. The deal is no longer available now.
