Glaswegians call fizzy drinks ginger, imagine the confusion this will cause!

Indeed. In one of the most celebrated court cases which established the duty of care owed by a manufacturer to a consumer, Donaghue v Stevenson, a woman successfully sued after she got ill from drinking a bottle of ginger ale which had a decomposed snail in it. The woman was from Paisley, and there's a school of thought that the bottle was could have been any fizzy drink, but that the posh lawyers and judges did not know the term "ginger" for fizzy drinks in the West of Scotland!

That certainly makes more sense, but some people do indeed use it as I described.
On the topic of irn bru, an English guy I knew online went to a chippie in Glasgow and some wee ned caught him buying cola instead of the bru and offered him ootside

I like ginger but this isn't nice at all.
Tastes super artificial, and yes it is always this price (2 for £1) in Poundland
