Have you tried Patak's different curry pastes? I have and they are so much tastier than the sauces. Well these are new smaller 70g pots of pastes that come in packs of 2 (so 140g with each pot serving 2) and they are currently half price at Waitrose for 74p. Normally the larger currys paste jars are £2+ for 283g/290g and I never see them on offer so to me this is a pretty good deal.
If you want an authentic taste, move away from Patak's and try Shaan spices. It comes as spice mix powder but mixing it with yogurt will give you a paste like Patak's but much nicer taste.

Or buy the spices yourself and create your own style. You find the flavours are much better and a lot less grease like the pastes.

True, the only problem with that is that you should really know what spices to put in which quantity. And you would have to buy different spices. Shaan is a spice mix of different spices, and not greasy since it is not a paste. Try it and I am sure you would like it.

Cool. I am lucky to know the spices to use. My mother was born in the far east so that helps massively.
