Using the Mi Home app, you can switch on and remotely control the robot, change cleaning modes and set schedules,
Additionally, a powerful Nidec brushless DC motor, a main brush with adjustable height and a 5200mAh Li-ion battery for up to 2.5 hours of cleaning

Nice for hard floors as most Chinese homes do - whom Xiaomi designed it for. Just don't expect it to work on any carpets with reasonably thick/long pile. It also won't climb from hard floors onto rugs with long pile either.
Otherwise, they're quite nice. Novelty value is quite long-lasting.

To be fair though my Roomba at nearly double the price is the same. It gets stuck on long pile. The Roomba battery life isn't as good as good either. For the price is buy this over Roomba any day.

How do these cope with corners, such as the end of kitchen units where the plinths meet the side panels? I'd like one of these to keep running around the kitchen as it's a main thoroughfare and gets hoovered several times a day but most if the bits of dirt seem to congregate/migrate into the corners and I don't know if this would get to them?

Ha! I wish!! Not at all, the place is a tip but yes, 4 of us including 2 nearly-teenagers - constantly in and out via the kitchen/diner, and we've got a plain floor that just seems to be filthy the whole time. Got one of those handheld stick Dysons that needs emptied every other day from the amount of crud it picks up, and I've totally not got the patience to do it! So if one of these would actually get all the bits of dust and whatever else it is out from the corners then it would be a godsend. 100% non ocd, 100% sick of cleaning!!

How do things like this deal with getting in to edges and corners? It seems that my hoover is on the way out and replacing it with one of these does seem like a fun (and surprisingly cheap) option, but it seems kinda pointless if you still need a normal hoover to use every so often to get into the corners once the dust and dirt has accumulated there after a while?
I guess if its not that great for those areas, I could just buy a cheap car vacuum and pretend I'll also sometimes vacuum inside my car, when we all know that I won't. At least it'd see some use though, rather than just accumulate so much dust that it'd need hoovering!
CampGareth to Podge
28 Sep 17#37
That's what the side brush is for, it allows things on the edge of the footprint to be swept into the path of the vacuum itself. It should be able to deal with a regular 90 degree corner, though if it's tighter than that it may struggle.

Unless you have a huge open space with laminated floors, then not really. Most UK homes are small, have rugs, and too much surface clutter.

Is it possible to specify particular rooms to clean only (instead of all rooms on the floor)? From the app perhaps?
CampGareth
29 Sep 17#58
You could use the 'virtual walls' magnetic tape to close off rooms? Otherwise I don't think there's a way. I saw mention of it in a review of V2 but it was a chinese review with google translate applied so it might have been talking about spot cleaning. Or anything really.
elbs
29 Sep 17#59
I see.. I meant on selecting different rooms on any given day, on a interchangeable basis rather than permanent margins like the 'virtual walls' appear be.
It would appear that isn't a feature then? Shame as it would probably be not difficult to add that as an option on the software / app
CampGareth
29 Sep 17#60
Forgive me but I don't understand why you'd want to do that? Like, with the pause for recharge feature it can probably cover about 400m^2, so why wouldn't you want it to cover your entire home every day? Mine probably doesn't need a vacuum every single day, every other day would do, but when I want it cleaned I want the entire thing cleaned.
elbs
29 Sep 17#61
How long would that take though, to do the whole floor - likely a fair bit of time? Was thinking if one is short of time (expecting guests at
short notice, have other plans soon, etc) could get it to focus just on rooms
that need cleaning, to get done in a shorter period of time.
Probably fairly easy to implement in
software I would imagine, and would certainly add value for many
consumers
CampGareth
30 Sep 17#62
Hmm, for a quick clean you'd be better off with a real vacuum cleaner. You'll be able to do the key bits (remember the robot will do under the sofa, under beds, places guests won't see) and you'll do a better job. The robot won't hold as much dirt as a real vacuum either.
You could avoid the whole situation by letting the robot run once every day or other day. It'd maintain an acceptable state of cleanliness at all times so you wouldn't need to suddenly clean for guests.

Yeah it can't do this. Although I don't really see any need for it to do this if I'm honest? I'm out, the house is empty, clean everything you can see please.
It takes mines about 20 minutes to do 20 square meters. This allows for it finding its way around the dining room chairs etc. Its usually about 80%ish battery when its finished doing that, so fag packet calculation could do 100 square meters on a single charge. If it is a bigger area than that, I would imagine it just takes itself back to the dock to charge then continues.

From Eufy's website:
"How does RoboVac navigate?
RoboVac uses Bounce technology to navigate when cleaning. It will go straight until it detects an obstacle and subsequently change direction. Different cleaning modes will cause it to take different paths."
I think that settles the quickest argument. The scanning system of this model will map the room so it'll cover everything once. The eufy will do the classic thing of bumping round a room on a random path covering some places many times and others not at all but because it's covering some places multiple times it'll take far longer to finish. As for quieter, I have no idea, quieter seems to go against good cleaning.
How much of a difference does it make? Depends on the room but I've seen reviews saying 45 minutes for a random bounce pattern, 20 minutes for room-mapping.

This is a bit worrying. I placed my order with "Expedited Shipping" so I have no idea when this will arrive and I don't know if I will have to pay customs. To be honest customs is something I didn't think about at all. Anyone received it?
CampGareth
5 Oct 17#77
Looks like they've got a case of 'stupid'. If you order expedited shipping, that's not the default, you chose it on purpose knowing full well that most of the proper couriers will process customs charges.
Anyway I haven't got mine yet but it should be due 9th-12th so next week. No tracking number either. "standard shipping"
Tibag
5 Oct 17#78
So does that mean that with "Expedited Shipping" I have more chance to go through customs? If so I am maybe better asking to use the "standard" one.
CampGareth
5 Oct 17#79
I think so. It's anecdotal but when packages have gone through regular china mail to me, although they take far longer they do not gather customs charges even when they should. I've shipped big things by Fedex, UPS, DHL they've always sent me a customs bill later.
I don't think it makes any sense to warn you about that since you paid for expedited shipping unless it's out of the kindness of their hearts over customs charges, or it's a money-grab. Make sure if you switch to 'standard' shipping you get the difference in value compared to expedited refunded.

I just got that email, ordered on the 29th, been 'dispatched' since about the 1st but now on the 7th I get an email saying it has been 'shipped' (is that not the same thing as dispatched?). Email has a tracking number for Yodel who say my parcel is still 'With sender' and has been since the 1st.
Don't know what that means for estimated arrival date but jeez they could be a lot more clear about the order process.
