Keep in mind no speakers with this. I know it's a gaming monitor but I want something for both productivity and casual gaming I was close to hitting the buy button but I don't want to clog my room up more for speakers.

I made the leap from a 27" 16:9 1440 monitor to an ultrawide 34" 1440 monitor and wouldn't look back. I've not seen ultrawide at 1080 but I reckon I'd still prefer it over 16:9 1440. The change from 16:9 to ultrawide felt like a proper upgrade. The extra width definitely adds to the immersion. From what I've read this is the best 1080 ultrawide to get, and also one of the cheapest. Tftcentral have a really in depth review of it here: tftcentral.co.uk/rev…htm

Sell me your 1440? :stuck_out_tongue: they are all over my budget!

I've only had it a month and there wouldn't be anything to upgrade to :stuck_out_tongue: . I'm not going back to 16:9 now!

That's a horrible resolution for the size. 34" and only 1080 vertical pixels? It'd be like looking through a letterbox. I have a 25" 2560x1440 monitor that I think is the perfect density for gaming + text. 34" 2560x1080? And curved for a cheap way to push up the price without delivering any extra value? No thanks.

Wouldn't say it's horrible. The vertical height of this 34 inch ultrawide is equivalent to that of a 27 inch 16:9 monitor, which means the vertical pixel density is equivalent to a 27 inch 1080p monitor. Given that a lot of people who buy a monitor this size are likely to sit a little further back (as it would make little sense sitting close with such a large screen), it's likely that the resolution will be just fine.

Is it really a ultrawide monitor 1080p thread without someone posting something like this?

Curved ultrawides are over hyped. You can get much better monitors for this price tag. 4K always wins over ultrawide. COLD IMHO

I've got the 34UM88, the 1440p resolution IPS (non-curved) 21:9 Ultra-wide version of this one. Non-curved means I can use it for work and play.
I'd rather have 1440p ultra-wide over a smaller 4k screen any day of the week.

Good price but I don't think I could ever use a non G-Sync monitor now tbh.

would screen tearing be an issue with this monitor? (I have an Nvidia GTX 1070 so can't make use of the Freesync)

If you are using an nVidia card then yes, you won't be able to take advantage of Freesync (which is awesome by the way) but you can obviously use vsync to get rid of the tearing.
With regards to the resolution, I use a flat 34 ultrawide with 1080p and to be honest it is fine. I totally understand why people won't be too keen, especially if you do a lot of text work but the increase in workspace outweighs it for me and I don't really notice it in gaming. Bear in mind too that an ultrawide is going to bring your framerate down so sticking with 1080p, especially if you have a low or mid range GPU may make more sense.

This is would be great for FPS players on a budget. Yes the fidelity won't be as good as a 1440p so not for everyone. But for FPS players you would get a much higher frame rate at 1080p, wider view and it's 144hz so all good. Great price.

I heard that 1080p on a 34 inch monitor is a big no no.
