Potentially work on both 8/8+ and the two colours they stock. Price on title based on S8 vs iPhone 5s

added: I used box.co.uk as they have a shop in Sutton Coldfield in Brum. Also the price match was to pay the fulll price and email the PM team to refund within 5 working days

Yesterday I went to look for a good outright sim free S8 deal and whilst looking at their own site’s offering (iPhone/Samsung old trade trade in with £100 extra credit - or the old phone takes £15x off for a new S8/S8+ on interest free cost spreading basis)

..anyway as didn’t want to have another unnecessary credit line I had a look at their rebate option (same principle but you basically send in a working phone on their list after your purchase

So if you buy a new S8/S8 plus from JL, Argos, Very (or their more pricy Littlewoods) you can retrospectively sell your old phone after 28 days to get the said value of the phone - which is a bit better than say Apple’s own valuation on their old iPhones.

Now then I thought surely JL’s full price must be able to be matched somehow - and cheekily I found a company in Birmingham that has a store and selling the S8 for £574 or something. That in itself is about £130 of “saving” vs Samsung’s price tag. So if you have an iPhone 5 or above that at least take another £130 off, making the S8 £409 with my actually good condition iPhone 5S trade in.

Obviously higher trade in value if you want to give them your iPhone 7 Plus but you might as well sell it on eBay or something

One can argue you can get the 950/955 S8 at eGlobalCentral around £460 and probably a bit more choices with bigger memory possible. although I sincerely believe it’s a proper business in HK, the thought of getting slammed on whatever the potential import duty and handling fee is not ideal, for me. And neither the bigger built in memory nor dual sim models serve much purpose to me either.

I did prefer the Coral blue which none of the 4 said retailers stock though :-(

Oh well hope this is useful for some wanting the S8/+.

————
for those find the above beating round the bush a bit - it’s simple:

1) make sure you have one of the old phones on the Samsung trade in list as stated in one of the posts
2) fill in a JL price match form - I used box.co.uk as my comp website/shop as they have one
3) If its a success then likely you need to buy the phone at whatever the price on JL website and email with your ‘case number’ so that they can refund the difference to you in 5 working days
4) after 28days go the Samsung Recycling site to claim the £100+what’s the price they state to pay for your phone

Really depends on what model of the two (s8/s8+) and what old phone you have so my example was for the S8 which is listed at £689 or something and fill in a claim form for price match to £574.

that doesn’t take away the Samsung trade in bonus promotion (£100+value of old phone on the list - must be working however) which you can claim 28 days after the purchase on their Samsung Recycling website with proof of purchase and IMEI of both new and old phone

I bought mine (s8) from very what I can work out is that Samsung are doing a promotion where you can recycle your old phone after owning the new one a month (28 days)- you then fill in all details on there site and post off getting £100 back but from what I read it sounded like I got £65 for my phone (s5) Plus £100? Maybe read it wrong but the £100 back will come in handy paying new phone off.

thats the sell now buy later with £100 Samsung.com credit. I was tempted to get the 10% off as new customer with credit account but just want a phone outright and the price match make the post more worth while I believe

Do Very price match?

Would it be possible to pricematch with whatever store you used for John Lewis and then get the 10% off for new customer and the claim rebate from Samsung?

Emailed the price match form.
Mrs has a S7 which would sell for £270-£300 optimistically thinking.

Have they agreed to your price match op?

IF you want the S8 (black), I have a case number open for the refund - if you fail to get it matched somehow, by all mean DM me. Just that my other half didn’t fancy a new phone...what a waste of my time...

scmk3000 to DBoniface
24 Sep 17 #17
Hmmm I definitely wouldn’t trade in that and don’t think it’s an option either. You might as well sell it on eBay if condition is good?? I think the size is marginal and initially I was exclusively looking for the plus only but realise 5.8” vs 6.2” is tiny...

again in I think the plus version internationally (diff model in diff market)have more hardware difference. Ie dual sim, memory and processor but the former two are a tad pointless as only potentially business phones user would find dual sim useful.
Not in my industry as work phone is customised to record everything and memory...well a 128gb micro sd cost not a lot nowadays and removable and if I remember right you can only either the have second sim or sad card in S8+). Processors, there are two type (snapdragon and the other...not an expert) but arguable marginal in terms to performance. Just my 2p

It's not your English mate. It just seems long winded.

But tbf I've figured it out -

1. I buy price matched S8 from JL £574
2. I claim for and send my iPhone 6 to Samsung and get £250 cashback

Making an S8 £324. Super hot deal
scmk3000 to samspud

Correct but you do need to part the asking price first on their website and need the reference they give you to prove the purchase before they refund the difference. They promise 5 working days it will only take

1. Choose either S8 or S8+
2. Submit JL price match against box.co.uk/pro…rue
3. Purchase via JL
4. Trade in a Samsung Galaxy 4 / iPhone 5 (or newer) at samsungrecycle.co.uk/offer

Example: S8 Black from Box = £574, price match at JL and trade in Galaxy S4 for £32 (+£100 bonus) making the S8 £442

Could someone double check the trade in conditions for me please, I've read them and cant see anything stopping me from trading in a Galaxy S6 fully working but with a cracked screen, would be even more excellent if this was the case. Put those iPhone fanboy and Android silly verbal wars aside, as a long term iPhone user I simply find it just easy to use and less stuff to have to worry about - yes android you can do all sort but it’s becoming a struggle for someone (like me) who has no interest in bootloader, kennels and sideload and a long list of others thing.

And never mind different custom version would have their individual problem to contend with (like the Cynogenmod I tried but it messed up nig time with the camera..that’s the sort of things you have to consider.) ...jist too much for a thicko like moi.

24 Sep 17 #37
No, just to buy the Samsung S8/S8 plus IF they agree to price match that is.

i have been told that Note is not much better (hardware wise) than the S8 and just bigger? The price is on par with the iPhone X....even my new iPhone 8 plus gave me a real ache when I had to get it, on contract...just too much money to part for a Fg phone...

did you see the Very new offer and with extra 10% new credit account? In theory you could still trade in (just the normal trade in on Samsung Recycling) but they do pay less for the phone but still give you £100 to buy on Samsung.com)
Very would be a better option I think and you could spread the cost for 12months 0% if needed

In reply to above, I know what you mean. I've had Iphones for years and loved every one. However.....I just thought that the iPhone X is just too dear so took the leap from my Iphone 6s plus to a Samsung S8 plus.
The Samsung is a absolute marvel and quite simply a joy to use. To be fair, I think all of these higher range phones are amazing anyway.
Anyway, what i'm trying to say is.....the S8 is a very good phone and I have no regrets in moving across from my beloved Apple.
I'm a mid 50's bloke with an average tech level at best.
and for the record i'm not messing around with my Samsung as in 'bootloader' , 'kennels' or whatever, I don't know what they are and if I did, i'd only cock it up anyway.
I'd think you would find the phone does pretty much anything you would want anyway, without modifications.

I’m the same boat. No way I would be proud to tell people I spend over £1000 for the X - in fact I would be ashamed to tell people that tbh!

actually during my iPhone life I used Google’s very first phone the G1 loved loved loved it. Then back on iPhone and tried briefly the Oneplus one and that’s that point I realised how much I cannot be bothered with the huge possibility of the modification side of the Android universe. But you are right an average smartphone does more than enough for average joe these days so really you choose what suits financially or what appears to you.

Lastly, 50s is the new prime for menmate!

The customer service personnel said that he can price match over the phone with box.co.uk so you can get the Samsung S8+ for 684.99 (Orchid Grey) as that's the only color JL have got in stock for S8+. I'm planning to trade in iPhone 6 for 150 and with 100 bonus you can get the S8+ for 584.99. Even if you just price match is with box.co.uk it's worth having the 2 year warranty from JL.

Hi guys, Can someone help me. I have an S7 edge. On trade in price it says £170 plus £100 if I go through Samsung.
On OP it says S8 for £439. How is that? Is that £439 after trad in, Or do I take £170 of £439?

See my iPhone 6 gojng for £150/200 on eBay and that's without the messing around and charges - so this deal great for me. £250 they'll give me for the iPhone 6 (£150+£100)

24 Sep 17 #58
Surely £685 - £250 is £435? (£150+£100 bonus)
scmk3000
24 Sep 17 #59
So JL sell S8 at 688 or something, minus price match to box.co.uk to reduce it to 574. You receive the difference upon receipt of the phone. Then after 28days (think it’s to prevent people returning the phone right away) you then initiate the claim process on samsungrecycle website for value of the old phone (in my case £65 for 5S) plus extra £100 bonus which makes the S8 for me £409. £439 is the lowest reductionthey would offer for the iPhone 5, hence I quote that as a reference.

Many thanks for posting this deal, OP. It's absolutely ideal for me.

I've heard back from JL and they've agreed to price match. I've sent them a separate query; through work I can purchase "reloadable cards" and save 5%. I want to know if I can use these reloadable cards and still price match.

My thinking is, a possible way around it, is to use part reloadable card and part debit card, so they can still refund the debit card.

I'd save about £35 by using the cards, so want to check how it'd work before ordering.

The point "must meet the manufacturer’s original UK specifications" has me slightly worried.

I bought a brand new sealed S7 a year ago from Smartfone store and, when I received it and powered it on, the default language was set to Polish so I am presuming the phone originated from Poland.

Although Smartfone store never mentioned this in their listing, I didn't think it would be an issue so kept the phone.

I'm now wondering if it will be accepted as part of this trade-in.

Does anyone know if you can claim the extra £100 trade offer if you buy the S8 on a contract, say from Three
scmk3000
24 Sep 17 #70
I wouldn’t have thought phones from different regions would be an issue as the purpose is to get a working phones from the list that would work in the UK (ie you can get a CDMA type of Galaxy from the US, for example, that wouldn’t work in here....Just saying they might be more picky on the model’s cellular/frequency specification than whether if it has a different set of language in the memory.

Pure guess though.

24 Sep 17 #71
Not quite - it makes it £324 + whatever you would have got for your iPhone 6 on eBay - fees (for a roughly equal amount of hassle).

So maybe £324 + £160 = £484, which is still a pretty good deal.
scmk3000
24 Sep 17 #72
my guess is no as none of the four authorised sellers provide monthly contracts?
KCooperman

It says those or a participating enterprise reseller or solutions provider... I'm curious if a solutions provider means network provider? Cool do do let others know if you find out as might be useful if others are considering buying it that way but must say the contract between you and Three in itself poses the main issue of being included in this promotion as there is a question of legal ownership of the phone.

I've heard back from them; I think they slightly misunderstood my question, however it's good news.

"We have received your email.

I have reviewed the details of your query regarding the ability to use more than one card to place an order. I am sorry to inform you that you would not be able to use more than one card details when placing an order with John Lewis online. However you may use a John Lewis gift card with an accompanying card as part payment.

If we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us."

So from that, it sounds like you can use part gift card and part credit/debit card to pay for the order.

My question now is, I wonder if you can just use a gift card?

Gutted. Just realised you have to request a reloadable card and it's posted out to you, even if you're using it online. It's not like the likes of Argos where you can do it instantly. I don't want to take a chance and wait, as John Lewis only have two left in stock of Orchid Grey - and then I might miss it altogether! First world problems... :disappointed:

Thank you for your email.

If the phone is purchased using a combination of gift vouchers and a debit card, we can process the refund onto the debit card. If you were to purchase it solely using vouchers, the refund would be in the form of online credit applied to your johnlewis.com account.

If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

They wouldn't price match with me over the phone they just submitted me a claim.

25 Sep 17 #90
Submitted a price match request last night. Got the OK about 20 mins ago. Just ordered for collection tomorrow.
I had bought a S7 Edge from JL for £449 about 3 weeks ago. I didn't open the box. I will return it when collecting the S8. S8 works out cheaper as I can trade in my S5 for another £165.

Thanks OP for the deal!.

Just done this and ordered, been waiting for a decent deal on the s8, and the john lewis warranty makes this even better. Cheers OP

Trade in my S7 and get the S8 for £274, what's not to like! Sent price match request across just now, once got that will be pulling the trigger. Just need to get some JL gift cards to save a few quid more and happy days!

Orchid Grey went down to one left in stock so I snapped the last one up. I couldn't take the risk of missing out on it, as I really wanted that one so much more than the black one - and it's coming tomorrow! Cheers again OP, great deal.

Let's said I took the S8 from JL for £574 . And according to the Samsung trade in page I will get £411 (iPhone & Plus) + £100 bonus = £511 right?
Dave_c
25 Sep 17 #99
yes, so £63 for the s8 and a decent warranty from john lewis, and the Samsung one to fall back on

I think the grey is more...’metallic blue/purple’ - and actually more interesting than the black but did use black on the price match form so black it is for me

Price matched the s8 for the wife, but I'm after the s8+ in black. Anyone know wheres the cheapest place I can get it from?

Have the prices dropped I am looking at iPhone 6 128gb and the price is £105 + 100 however the text about the deal says £150 + the £100. I spoke to them who didn’t seem to know they said the price would be corrected once I put a valid s8 imei in
Dhiren94
25 Sep 17 #107
I think with very you can get it for 682 and then do this deal above? There was a thread with 100 quid off at very a couple weeks ago.

But John Lewis with a worse colour or very? John Lewis is a safer bet surely

Is pricing matching with JL to get the 2 year warranty compared to Box?
Does Samsung honour the trade in if purchased from Box?
jsmith1
25 Sep 17 #112
John Lewis, Argos, Littlewoods, Very or a participating enterprise reseller or solutions provider
so no Box is not included
Umillion
25 Sep 17 #113
S8 oos sadly
scmk3000
25 Sep 17 #114
After receiving mine and opening the S8, I must say the bigger 8+ might be better as it feels and looks small.
Beside my iPhone 8 plus, the S8’s display area is 5-6mm narrower but almost a cm longer. Might just be the case of getting used to it.

I will install the basic to see if it feels right or whether I shall sell it on eBay...

Still a few 8+ left on JL’s site so be quick I think it’s a better size and better colour.
Dave_c
25 Sep 17 #115
I think this depends on the user, I tried the s8+ and just didn't like the size of it, I use my phone one handed a lot and it was just a bit too much. Defo worth trying them out in store first.
scmk3000
25 Sep 17 #116
Yeah I think it’s really whether you are used to big(ger) phone or not. I used to text and operate my mobile one handed too but once you go big, you never look back...as they say...so if you are a 5.5”+ phone like the iPhone plus or Oneplus, you prob prefer the 8+. But if you are using iPhone smaller size ones for example, then S8 would be a better choice.
Winspiration
25 Sep 17 #117
I would have liked the 8S+, but given that they're the exact same phone, only the + is a little bigger and has a slightly bigger battery, I couldn't justify the £100 difference.
Dave_c
25 Sep 17 #118
I felt like if I went for the s8+ id rather wait and get the note 8 on some sort of deal
mvnl2008
26 Sep 17 #119
I plan on doing the same. The regular s8 will see me through until an unmissable note 8 deal presents itself

26 Sep 17 #120
I just ordered an s8 in black a couple of minutes ago and it said there were 9 in stock. After my transaction went through it is showing as out of stock. Either I was very lucky and just got in in time or I'll be getting an email in a couple of hours to say that they are out of stock and to expect a refund
rdecoratorUK
26 Sep 17 #121
so if john lewis will price match then from this price I have to cut 216 for my old s7 edge + extra 100 wich will make s8 for 200 something ? do im right ?
CallumWSU
26 Sep 17 #122
Correct, JL will price match down to £574, take away the £216 + £100 = £258.

You're only able to claim the £316 from Samsung 28 days after purchase.

Only issue is JL is currently out of stock & you'll need to have purchased by 23:59 30th September...best hope they get some more in quick!

27 Sep 17 #125
Orchid Grey is absolutely stunning. Love the colour! Just wanted something a little different; my past few phones have just been black. Love the phone too. Screen quality is incredible. Pleasantly surprised how thin and relatively small the phone is, given the size of the screen.

29 Sep 17 #129
So I ordered 2 of these on Mon this week after getting a price-match back from them for both. I ordered one to my work and one to my partners on the same credit card. Mine got shipped fine, her's got put on hold because they needed to confirm my credit card details. By the time I'd confirmed them, it had gone out of stock and I got an out of stock email saying it could take upto 4 weeks.

I called to complain and they bounced me around 5 stores in the UK trying to find stock they could send to me, no where had any. Id given up getting one within the timeframe that samsung recycle would work. Then today I checked the status of the order and apparently ive been allocated some stock, somehow, somewhere...and it's being sent out today. God knows if I'll receive it. *shrug*

Box.co.uk price of £575 was approved by JL pricematch team. If it all goes to plan, i will claim £32 for my ancient S4 + £100 bonus. So 575 -132 = £443. Does anyone know if we also get the Samsung VR kit with this? Thanks

Wow, that's so f'n annoying. Samsung have said you can claim a free VR headset and remote if you purchased the phone from 28th September to 2nd November 2017.

I ordered it on the 25th because I was worried about JL running out of stock.

‌ :rage:
deeyup
3 Oct 17 #144
You should be fine if you ordered on the 28th or after.

I ordered on the 30th so will definitely be claiming the VR. John Lewis are on the list as a participating retailer, so I don't see why I shouldn't qualify
samsung.com/uk/…vr/
keith43
3 Oct 17 #145
is it not one promotion per purchase, so you can't do the recycle and free VR? I'm not sure mind but I know which one I would prefer.

On a photo is states "Not redeemable with any other offer from the promoter"
deeyup
4 Oct 17 #146
Yes, I did see that. I am 1st off going to send in my S7 Edge for the £320 or whatever the price is. Once that is accepted, I'll quickly follow with a claim for the VR. Worth a punt, but the part ex is my priority
