I'm still on the fence with these but this is tempting - I don't like 'serious' games like the Xbox & PS, prefer fun games but more handheld than screen so I'd use it handheld all the time. Any advice?

Had a go on my friends one, they are great just lack of content. I am very surprised they haven't got a lot of the great indie games around on their platform. It would be ideal.

Indie games are being announced and coming out all the time on it. And let's be fair, it will end the year with the strongest support from first party this year of all the three systems.
KCooperman to EagleUK
11 Sep 17 #15
I own around 20+ games for my switch already, so saying there is a lack of content is nonsense. Sounds like your friend needs to buy more games! Obviously not every indie game is going to be ported to the switch, but a lot of the great ones are already available and new ones being announced all the time

I'm waiting for sub £200 with bundled games... I reckon when the next gen PlayStation and X box come it will drop... Here's hoping anyway
bleachedsmiles to you_gotta_be_kidding
11 Sep 17 #7
Not a chance. Nintendo don't see themselves as competing to be your main home console...they'll settle for your secondary. This will only go under £200 with a possible game bundle when they release the next iteration of the switch...give it two years and you're laughing with the savings you'll make.

Funny, I was told the same thing with the Wii U. I wanted the Wii U premium with games for sub £200 and sure enough close to Xmas a few months after release I got it for £195 with code at Tesco direct.

The wiiU was late competition for the 360 and PS3...this ain't trying to compete with Xbox one and PS4. But wait and see.

Nintendo are fantastic at catering for all kinds of gamers.
Casual or core gamer.

There are plenty of Indies and multiplayer/party games for Nintendo, on top of all the more varied big titles that they release.

Seriously the Switch is fab for most people.
It just depends on the cost, whether you personally see yourself using it.

Love this notion of the price dropping or that Nintendo is dead. This console is their biggest win since Wii. Not counting 3ds.

The switch has sold more in its initial 6 months in Japan than the PS4, and the switch launched outside peak retail.
Also the stock shortages etc.

Whether you like it or not the console is a success so far. If you don't want one, don't buy one (and maybe don't spend your time in threads relating to them?)

Great deal.
Leonintelex
11 Sep 17 #17
They are predicting big stock shortages for Xmas due to shortage of components.

These will be going for insane prices in December - got a feeling they will be on a lot Christmas lists. I'd get it now or wait until next year when supply is available.

11 Sep 17 #30
I agree it's a poor design. I use an extension cable so I don't have to put it in the dock. I also have my switch in a hard shell, so it wouldn't fit in the dock anyway, so this solution works well (without having to keep removing the case)

I have had the neon console since release. I keep meaning to but I still haven't put the screen protector on that I have. I dock it quite regularly (carefully) and it hasn't got a scratch on it. In terms of games, I already have more than I have time to play. Zelda, Lego city, Disgaea, Mario + Rabbids, Binding of Isaac, Bomberman, Mariokart, Minecraft, Sonic Mania, Fast RMX, plus loads of other eshop titles which seem to be being added constantly. I think theres a total of over 100 games available on the eshop now (lots of them indies). Yes theres a lot of ports too but playing them all on the go is awesome. Loads more indie games are in the pipeline too - just look at the latest nindies direct.

I'm not convinced theres going to be any significant reductions - why bother reducing it when they're selling as fast as can be supplied? If you have the patience then yeah wait some and you might save some money but I say buy it now it's money well spent!!! Oh and I can't wait for Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade!

2minutenoodles
11 Sep 17 #56
It is a deal on a console with massive stock issues due to component wars with Apple. Not only do Nintendo consoles hold their value there is a good possibility you won't even be able to get one around Christmas so yes for there to even be a deal it is pretty good.
Bradmax57

11 Sep 17 #58
Just bought the Grey for my son for Christmas, used the £25 off code and had almost £50 in clubcard points, so quite pleased with that, as close to £200 as I am going to get this year.

Just need 2 or 3 games for it now and will have one happy boy come Christmas morning
jrk4
11 Sep 17 #59
Fair enough. Theres definately something to be said about having instant access and not having to store the carts and change them around. Personally I like having the box and carts (and sometimes little extras like manuals, music cds etc). It also saves filling up my sd card too quick and sometimes its actually cheaper to buy the physical than the digital. I have bought a good few eshop games as well so i suppose I'm reserving my microsd for exclusively digital downloads.

£240 vs £280, of course it's a good deal. (this won't go down in price for a good year or so), and with Christmas coming up they're going to be hard to find/out of stock. If you have the money, go for it!

Best things anyone buying a Switch can do is get a tempered glass screen. The front of the Switch's screen itself is soft plastic, meaning although it's less susceptible to shattering, it will get scratched up a lot more easier.

A tempered glass protector saves you from these issues. Had one on mine since launch and the screen is still pristine. Only about £10 for a protector and a spare

And here we see the less common Nintendite, bravely venturing forth from their burrow to proclaim their argument.
Notice how illogical the rare beast is.
Pale and frothing around the lips from dehydration, most likely after a long gaming session.
We can only presume it dies out soon and a more evolved order of every console being judged on its merits becomes the norm, as opposed to X
This console is expensive for what it is and for what games are available on it.

As a fellow PC gamer I would strongly recommend the Switch. It's an awesome bit of kit and games like BOTW are beyond belief.

I thought the lack of horsepower would mean the graphics are naff but they look great due to artstyle and excellent screen.

It's also great when you have friends over, so many good multiplayer games.

Trust me, you won't regret buying.. I didn't.

Theres not going to be a discount any lower than this price,in 2017, nor the January Sales

Mario is out next month, if it's as good as they say it is, i mean it looks like Mario 64, but a modern take on it, then it should boost the sales especially Christmas time

Nintendo have made a Statement recently that they are not going to be able to meet demand of these Switches for Christmas this year (suprised? i'm not) so if you wanna beat the Christmas fight for one of these now is your chance

there is a Nintendo Direct on Wednesday 11pm, I hope they show new unannounced games, but I doubt it will be many as it says its just showing whats releasing in the coming months & Mario odyssey footage.

My guess is a reminder of all the following announced games

wwe, fifa, nba 2k18, worms wmd, rocket league, xenoblade 2, sonic forces, LA Noire, Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2, Pokken, and Skyrim

Thanks. I went for one last night for the 12 year old's Christmas present. (hurry up and get back to School son so I can have a go!) I can't see it being cheaper than this before then, even in bundles. If it's not easy to get one now it will be close to impossible as Christmas nears. Only thing is losing 3 months warranty buying this early. I swear Nintendo limit stock levels to drive demand!

To anyone waiting on a big price drop, you'll be waiting a long time. Just look how stubbornly the Wii U held it's rrp right until the end and that was a 'failed' console!

Yeah... completely overlooked the cost of the software in my original post.

Paying £40-50 for Nintendo Switch games just seems ridiculous now when AAA games can be had on the PS4 for roughly half the price. And to be honest, I could never go back to the days of paying that sort of money for a game.

Edit: and for anyone who is going to accuse me of spouting anti-Nintendo sentiments, I voted this deal "hot".

I feel the exact same about this, I could maybe over look the high price for the console but the games are just way to over priced even second hand ! I'm fortunate enough to earn a decent wage, but I only justify buying PS4 games for the full price ( £37ish normally ) when AAA titles that I love come out - GTA, TLOU. The rest of the time I pick up my PS4 games a few months after release for £15-20.

Each to there own and I've voted hot for this deal, I just wish Nintendo would be more consumer friendly and not charge a premium over the other manufactures for everything ( Jesus their controller prices are outrageous

I went for the Toshiba Exceria M302 128GB from Amazon for £40 which is a good price for a U3 rated memory card.

Why single me out? Ok for you to post your opinion on this tv, and how 'tinny' the sound was though?

....and how great you thought the picture was... sounds very much like opinions to me

Just ordered (had one already), thanks OP! doubt the price will get any lower this year.. should I keep it as a Christmas gift? my lad probably won't be able to resist!

I guess for Nintendo games at least you won't be disappointed to see it sold at half price one month after you paid for the launch price.

It's still crazy to think I paid less for BotW at launch half a year ago than its price now!

That Mario Odyssey bundle is so expensive. I could buy this, the cartridge version of the game at launch and still have £40 left in comparison to having a console with a download taking up half the internal memory.

£99 and i might buy one, if i can mod it by then.

But heat for those that are interested.

Received my second unit. Dust under the screen again :disappointed:

Now they're out of stock.
Leonintelex
15 Sep 17 #152
That would be a killer blow for other consoles. But I think it will get pulled, can't see Nintendo letting it through as it will harm software sales.

Though saying that, Nintendo are close to Nvidia so we could potentially see support for Nvidia gamestream...fingers crossed.

If they did then my PS4 would end up on eBay.

£254.99 to much Nintendo need to get with the times, they make such great games but always release underpowered systems.

It definitely won't be that low (even with our staff discount). This is probably the lowest you'll find it for tbh. Unless you can find somewhere doing an amazing cashback deal.

At the price they're charging? No thanks. Way too much for a basic cosmetic difference. I'd never have a need for the second set. I have a pro controller and 8bitdo controller as well if I have mate over

They've sold like 5 million of these things in 6 months. Makes you wonder as to who is buying them. It's certainly not mass-market priced.

Ha, just found this article from 2011: mcvuk.com/new…009
"The firm says the days of disappointing suppliers is over".
Basically same stroy it has always been - hard to get hardware, few games, all this is causing artificial scarcity.
Hard to say, but at this point it's probably intentional and is creating a cult like following that they couldn't get by ramping up mass production...
garybb
17 Sep 17 #175
To much of a gamble buying a Nintendo console these days they dont have the lasting appeal any more only wish they would call it a day and release there great games on better hardware that have a longer life span.

Hope they make me eat my words but in my opinion this just wont sell enough to make it a future proof purchase.
roloboy
17 Sep 17 #176
8 player Mario kart with my nieces and nephews .. awesome fun
Callous
18 Sep 17 #177
It's not intentional..it largely down to Apple hogging components.

Nintendo uses NAND flash memory and the ramp up for the next iPhone has meant it's in short supply for other companies. Nintendo's initial plan was for 10 million units for the year..but due to the demand for the Switch, they had hoped to bump it to 20 million.. but the bottleneck in the supply chain means they are likely stuck with their original quantity..unless demand for the new iPhone ends up lower than expected.

Thankfully it's fairly easy to get in the UK now. It's more readily available here than in other regions..although those who are desperate to play Mario Odyssey this year would do well to get their orders in early. I suspect Nintendo will try and push as much stock as possible to the US/Europe by November..but come December, I suspect Japan will get the bulk of the hardware as demand there is off the charts there at present.
