Average price is £506.73 so a good 40-50 quid off normal price.

If you are buying a 1080 for 2160p or ultra wide 3440 then please forget it. Spend the extra on a 1080ti. You will only be able to play games on the absolute lowest settings because it cannot cope. Although the 1080ti on paper is only a bit faster around 30%, in reality it got me playing my games at 4k with all quality settings on highest with a steady 60fps framerates. Only ghost recon wildlands was a beast and needed 1080ti in sli for similar results.

Funny, most ultrawide benchmarks I've seen suggest 1080 is sufficient and performs over 60fps most games max. I have two 1080 gtx which far outperform the 1080 ti in most instances. (My monitor is 3440x1440)

It runs weaker games maybe. But you also want something future proof. And imo I would just wait for next nvidia lineup and get 1080Ti when price drops.

You said Futureproof in a Graphics card thread.

It barely runs 4k 60fps so with the newer games it will be even worse. What Im saying buy something faster at least will play few good upcoming aaa games at 4k. Not forever proof

You're right, I run a non overclocked 1080 at 1440p on an X34 with no issues, 60fps+ @ high / ultra high settings. I'd only consider a 1080 Ti if there were finally some decent gaming 4K IPS panels out there which there aren't and won't be for a long time. So a 1080 & a 1440p screen are a great match

Not true - GTX 1080 @ 3440x1440 is great

I couldn't agree more. I've no idea why Wildlands would be such a beast though, poor optimization is surely the only possible explanation

Agreed, it looks good, but not that good. Even sniper ghost warrior 3 plays crap in my 1080. It horrified me to be honest after spending all that money and still couldn't play properly.
Not sure what your sources are.. all the benchmarks for 1080GTX I see at Ultrawide are excellent. Keep in mind that 3440x1440 is a fair bit less demanding than 4k..

Indeed, lots of people forget that 3440x1440 is a shade under 5m pixels, where as 4K is over 8m, around 67% more, so your graphics card is no where near as strained at the lower resolution.

Hmm, blower type cooler so could be a bit noisy at times. Not a bad price though.

Good price. I have seen a few non-reference style coolers for a similar price, but this is still a good price in the scheme of things. But do be aware that this card will run hot and loud due to the blower style cooler.
With prices expected to start rising soon from memory shortages, this could be one of the last good deals on a GTX 1080 for awhile.
Im glad a bought this to be fair, people keep saying beware of blower style cards but with enough air flow im hoping it will be cool enough. Regarding the price increase, definatly glad i purchased it.

Blower style ones are fine, these cards don't overclock that well so you won't be losing much performance at all by having a blower style. It will run a little hotter and louder but you'll be none the wiser with headphones on.

Every time I cheaped out and bought a reference blower card, I've regretted it (yes I always wear headphones). I would say only people who don't care about noise levels and really can't afford to spend a little more should buy one.

Times and tech have changed, modern cards run cooler than before and blower style cards are actually more efficient for overall case cooling. I run a blower 1060 6GB and absolutely love it. It runs a custom fan profile which took 2 mins to setup and yes it does get audible when card is being hammered but its not much louder than a custom cooler. I can never hear it with my headphones on. Best bit is that all nearly all the hot air is exhausted out of the case and not pushed up to your CPU cooler which is what would happen with a custom cooler. My GPU maxes out at around 66C and my i7 2600k now runs around 60C max. Before when i had a 970 MSI Twin Frozr all the hot air was being pushed up towards the CPU and causing the CPU to hit about 70C plus the case would get very warm, now it barely registers as warm.

No idea why this got expired as it is still showing stock at this price! I agree it is a good price for this in the current climate.
Just a pity there isn't any used warehouse stock as if this came up with a 20% off they currently do, then wow that would be a mega deal....

Not a great deal IMO but Nvidia are upping ALL of their GPU's within the next week or two owing to DDR5 costs, which probably makes it worth buying if you need one and don't mind a blower.

Will that jump going to be permanent of short term?

Jump will going to be of short term. No jump of card ever going to be of permanent. Nothing never of permanent.

With GPU demand and memory shortage I imagine it'll silently stay in place.
