Was pricing up the Blu-ray boxset of this (daft prices everywhere) but spotted this bargain, at just £1.70 a disc delivered.

Avatar, Legend of Aang is number 1. Fullmetal brotherhood is at 2, Seven deadly sins (more episodes coming), Attack on Titan, Samurai champloo. Difficult choices though, so many good ones but Avatar still reigns supreme. I like Kora as well but lost the flow of the original in my opinion

The last airbender at number 1? Really?
It has its charms, don't get me wrong. And it ended well. But it's still a Nickelodeon cartoon, not an anime. And no where near as deep as FMA.

Doesn't have to be made in Japan to be an Anime, Anime is an art style. In Japan every cartoon is an Anime; Frozen won an Anime award but here Frozen isn't an Anime so on what we consider Anime; Avatar just is.
It is very much as deep it just doesn't focus as much on tragedy. It is more family friendly which in itself being able to appeal to all audiences and stay brilliant is impressive.

In Japan anime is any cartoon. Disney would be called anime. In the west however anime is specifically Japanese animation. Avatar is essentially Americans attempt at anime style. Hit and miss.

Based on that rule Avatar clearly isn't anime.

Anime is an Art Style. It is like saying Chinese food is only Chinese food if a Chinese person makes it. It isn't, it is always Chinese food; a style of cuisine. There isn't even a question; and what you say doesn't make sense. Avatar is an Anime. End of

Cause they're the same. Go watch The Simpsons. It's a great Anime.

I'd say Chinese people would argue that lots of things on a Chinese takeaway menu is nothing like their style of cuisine, like a chicken ball special for example. People's idea of Chinese food can vary and be subjective just like the debate you two are having.
en.wikipedia.org/wik…ime "Outside Japan, anime is used to refer specifically to animation from Japan or as a Japanese-disseminated animation style often characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastical themes."
"Avatar: The Last Airbender, and its sequel series The Legend of Korra are other examples of Western animation so heavily influenced by Japanese anime that they started discussions among fans and viewers about what is an Anime and should a non-Japanese animation be called an Anime."
Some people would consider it to be "Anime-influenced animation< a type of media that refers to non-Japanese works of animation that emulate certain aspects of the visual style of Japanese anime."
Myanimelist.net< which is basically the IMDB for Anime, does not have an entry for either Avatar series because they do not classify them as anime.
If you say "Avatar is an Anime. End of", there are people that will continue to disagree since there is no definitive answer as to whether it is or not. It depends on who you ask.

Great price but I'd really want it on Blu-ray personally as the artwork looks way crisper in HD.
