I'm a huge fan of the Scandinavian trains that go to the Arctic circle and I think there is no better way to go exploring and view the Northern lights. You can adjust elements of this trip as there are plenty of reasonably priced flights to and from London Gatwick to suit.
I realise there are options for Northern light trips to Iceland etc which involve a coach trip and one or two nights, but this trip is ideal if you want longer (=better chance of seeing them) and to head into the Arctic circle.
Saturday 27th January You'll fly from LGW to Sweden Arlanda. You have the rest of the day to explore Stockholm as the overnight train doesn't leave until just after 6pm. You can store your luggage at the station if you need to. You will take the overnight train to Kiruna in cabins which are private for two people. There is a shred toilet and shower for overnight passengers and j can vouch that the attendant kept this clean and tidy and the train was warm and cosy. It rates as one of my favourite train journeys.
Sunday 28th January You will arrive into Kiruna just after 9am which gives you a full day to explore Kiruna and the ice and snow activities. You will overnight on Kiruna, or stay awake looking for the Northern lights.
Monday 29th January You have another full day and overnight in Kiruna.
Tuesday 30th January You will take the Arctic Circle train to Narvik today. Europe's most Northern railway station. Narvik has lots of WW2 history and is a good place to overnight.
Wednesday 31st January - Friday 2nd January You will take the bus to Tromso today. It's around a 4 hr hour journey but with amazing scenery. In Tromso you will stay for two nights. Although, again you will be hoping to see the Northern lights, there is also other activities such as dog and reindeer sledding and not forgetting the Northernmost brewery in the world!

No, you fly back to LGW. The screen shot didn't upload, having problems with them uploading. It should be on there now, let me know if there is any that don't show up.
The price is correct and includes getting back to the UK.

Great deal. As a lover of night trains this is ideal! And makes for a great and affordable Scandia trip. So tempted!

I've been to Tromso - its a beautiful city. I managed to see the northern lights 3 times during my trip of 10 days. And it was amazing. 2 nights is a bit of a gamble if you're hoping to see them, I met people who had been there for a week and not seen them at all It's also very expensive in Tromso (probably all of Norway), I was on a tight budget so took a case full of pot noodles - it was the perfect food for those freezing cold nights and probably saved me a few hundred quid! I've added heat as this is a great deal for an amazing trip, but worth adding extra nights in Tromso if you can afford it
