Isnt this a notorious hard drinking and partying crossing? Not sure how family-friendly it is.

We went earlier on this year midweek and it was very pleasant. I think if you go Friday or Saturday it maybe a different, but you also won't get the cheap prices then either. Food is expensive on board, but we thought the drinks prices were just about normal pub prices so not too bad. As I have said in a previous post watch out for the Maritime phone coverage. We were charged £120 for my wife and 2 kids who's phone's accidently latched onto their signal and Facebooked for around 5 mins!

Yup! Been on this boat 20+ times. Everytime has been an absolute hoot!
I almost prefer the time on the boat than I do the 3-4 hours you get in Amsterdam.
EDIT: Don't be put off tho. There's plenty of stuff to keep the kids entertained. Not sure if Vicky The Pirate is still on it but she used to take all the kids around the boat and keep them amused.

Watch out for the roaming charges for the Maritime phone coverage! Be warned.

Transfers from the ferry terminal to Amsterdam cost more than the crossing!

Ive done this trip a good few times (the terminal is only 5 minutes from my house)........YES there is a duty free shop on the boat and it stocks the usual cigs, tobacco, perfumes ,,,drink etc.....
One tip, take some cans with you as the bar proces have jumped up......buy a legit drink at the bar and then go for a wander outside for a cig....then come back with your glass full, if you get my drift
