Brilliant price.

Can't put a price on safety but at £100 you really won't find much better than this!!

For this age group 9 months to 4 years it's possible to find rear facing options that have safety benefits too.

For some people it may be worth considering the more expensive pallas fix model as it is suitable from around age 1 like the juno with the cushion but can also be used as high back booster to around age 11 instead of 3 or 4 which gives many more years of use and more flexibility for children of different ages for grandparents or childminder.

Worth bearing in mind for babies and smaller toddlers the seat is quite low in the car. They may not have much if any view. Depends on your little personality if it matters to them or not.

Not at this price point.

isofix isn't of benefit for ease of use with this style of seat as you use the adult seat belt to fit it regardless.
All it would do is to ensure the seat doesn't move while it isn't in use. Though the isofix wouldn't hold the front cushion in place so it's best to strap it in regardless.
With harness type seats the isofix replaces the need to use the cars own seatbelt for fitting. isofix isn't safer in a crash than a correctly fitted belted seat it just reduces the potential for incorrect fitting with a seat belt.

So please show me a seat that is better than this at the £100 price point. Which was my point. Not the iso-fix

Not the same group of car seat, no Iso-Fix no additional protection for being forward facing and no mention of any guarantee in "Uber Kids" so not really comparable.

But I thought when you commented on Jdriggs you implied that isofix aside to show you a seat without isofix that can rear face and in a similar price range.....but hey if you think it's ok to forward face a infant from 9kg well that's yr choice
360finder to leannenaidoo56
30 Sep 17 #22
I asked for a seat just as good in the price range in my opinion the Joie is not as good. Don't like the brand, feel it's cheap and poorly constructed and way overpriced for the quality.

As a side note it's been fine for years to forward face in safe seats. Which is what the cybex is. Until very recently seats from nine months onwards all faced forward. It's only been in the last 24 months that they have started to sell rear facing seats.

So suddenly they are unsafe?? By that standard you replace your own car seats, belts, webbing, inertia system, brake pads, discs, tyres and airbags with the latest versions whenever they become available? No you go with what you consider to be the best in the range that you can afford.

I'd be happy to put my child in the cybex, as would many others, as it happens my youngest is in the two way pearl, but, forward facing as it's more comfortable and practical. For both me and them. Does that make it a bad seat? No! Does that make me a bad parent? No. Personal choice.
Youngsyr to 360finder
30 Sep 17 #23
Of course it's a personal choice, but just because something was deemed safe yesterday, it doesn't mean you should just ignore what is deemed safer today.

To quote an extreme example to highlight the logical inconsistency, it was deemed fine for decades for cars not to be fitted with any seatbelts, but it would be almost unthinkable (let alone illegal) to consider driving a car without seatbelts today.

These front impact shields are much safer than the old forward facing harnesses and score as high or higher than rear facing seats in crash tests and higher than ALL forward facing harness types. have a look at the ADAC ratings for these seat types. The Joie Trillo shield, Cybex Pallas and Kiddy Guardianfix consistently score top marks at all age ranges and they are forward facing 9months to 12 YEAR seats.

I have my daughter in a Maxi Cosi Axissfix and had to turn her forward facing by the time she was 18 months old. Her knees were up round her face when rear facing and watching her chewing her knees because there was no comfortable place to put her legs made me question whether these "up to 4 years" rear facing seats are safer for children or just their crash test dummy counterparts.

If I were to purchase again I would get a Cybex Pallas M-Fix 9month to 12 year seat. This is forward facing with an impact shield and performs as well in crash tests than the rear facing Axissfix and will last 8 years longer and is cheaper!
jdRiggs to rossysaurus
2 Oct 17 #31
The maxi cosi Axissfix isn't designed to take a child rear facing until 4 just to 15kg that is why she was getting uncomfortable.
The seats to take up to age 4 rear facing do have more leg room rear facing. The seat is set further back on the base.
It is the much reduced force of an impact on the head, neck and back rear facing that over all makes them safer as the risk of serious life changing injury and death is reduced.
I can see your point about perhaps a higher risk of hurting her legs like that though I guess they would heal faster than a neck injury.
I do like the cybex pallas when turning them around too.

Rear facing seats should have been widely available years ago, and the laws should have been brought in much earlier than they have being, when the research showed that rear facing car seats are so much safer. Obviously it is difficult as many people do have a limited budget, but as time goes on, hopefully forward facing seats that are available currently for children up until they are 3/4 years of age will become obsolete and the price of extended rear facing seats will be driven down so that they are affordable for all parents. My child's safety would always come before practicality and comfort. My first daughters rear facing car seat(which I used until she was 4 years of age) would take a good 15/20 minutes to move between cars, but knowing that she was in a rear facing car seat made all that effort worthwhile.

they aren't unsafe, they're just not as safe as rear-facing. standards change over time due to a variety of factors (like using a different set of tests to measure effectiveness).

in what could potentially be a life and death situation, I'll pick the option that provides the greatest chance of survival.
360finder to roots
1 Oct 17 #28
So as I said I. My previous comment you upgrade your car every six months to ensure its the safest option??!! Only having premium parts and tyres fitted at regular servicing intervals.

This seat is totally different from a 'standard' forward facing with the extra padding and cushioning.

I'm not saying this seat is better or worse than others. Simply that for the price it's a very good seat. From a reputable brand and retailer with good aftercare to back the guarantee.

If you don't like it don't buy it.

its important that people know that rear facing seats provide better protection - you shouldn't feel so defensive that you need to attack others just because you didn't know this and probably feel a little silly for not doing your own independent research.

I had to go seek this information out myself instead of being advised by anyone, which includes being recommended a front-facing seat for a 9 month old by the staff at Mothercare.

The vastly increased safety benefits of rear facing seats over forward facing ones for children under 5 years old have been known for decades, but for some unfathomable reason rear facing seats for older children have never become the norm here in the uk. In Sweden for example children have used rear facing seats since the late 1960’s, and the big manufacturers like Britax and Maxi Cosi don’t even sell forward facing seats for children under 4 over there.

You child is only ‘fine’ in a forward facing seat until you are in a collision. That’s when the safety difference between a forward facing seat and a rear facing one becomes apparent, and by that point it’s too late.

I bought a rear facing seat with a 25kg weight limit on it 4 1/2 years ago, they have been available in the uk for a long time. My 5 1/2 year old is very comfortable rear facing in it.

Yes it’s parental choice as to what seat you put your child in, but there is no debate to be had about which seats are safest. It’s a scientific fact that a rear facing seat is going to offer the best protection for your child. Can you honestly say you have done some research and watched crash test videos comparing rear facing seats to forward facing seats and what happens to the child in them in the event of a collision.
360finder to andreah903

I'm not comparing. That's what everyone else is trying to do. I simply said it was a good seat for the money.

Extended rear facing seats have been available for years!... I started looking into them when I was pregnant with my first nearly 7 years ago and started researching car seats. Granted they are more widely available now as people are becoming more aware of the research being done and the fact that rear facing is safer than forward facing.
Years ago cars didn't even have seatbelts... that doesn't mean it was safe! Car safety has increased massively in the last couple of decades and research into the safety of occupants has obviously also advanced- proving that rf is safer, end of.

Please read all previous comments.

And then this statement:

I own and use a Maxi Cosi Two way pearl (an Iso-Fix rear facing seat for 9months-4 years) it cost me £400.

I consider it to be a very good seat, practical and safe for my child. I am fortunate to be in a position to spend that amount on an infant seat. Many are not, were my budget for a seat to be only £100, which for many parents, (some of whom won't necessarily actually own a vehicle for everyday use but require a car seat for occasional use a spare or for a grandparents vehicle) I would be happy to purchase this seat at this price and use it in my vehicle for my child.

As yet my request for a better seat at this price point has been for the largest part ignored and people are merely ranting about the advantages of rear facing seats.

If you don't like forward facing seats why come to a post for one?

You surely aren't walking in to high Street retailers and forcing your opinion on shoppers in-store so why come here and behaves that way?

It's your opinion and by all means you are entitled to one. As am I.

I urge that you correctly read my request for an alternative seat you consider to be a safer seat or better at this same price mark. Where for many a five point harness seat secured by a belt is the main option I think the Iso-Fix and extra protection provided by the cushioning makes this seat a far safer option than the standard booster with a back you can pick up for the same amount from other retailers.

Sorry I interpreted the line "years ago cars didn't even have seatbelts" as comment on safety not the length of time rear facing seats have been available.

You also to appear to have posted four carseat deals in the past four years only one of which was rear facing (not in the picture mind just stated in the post) so slightly hypocritical of you at best to slate someone else's deal on safety grounds if you have been aware of the advantages of the rear facing seats for so long yet post forward facing seats.
laurieleigh to 360finder
4 Oct 17 #38
Please point out where I have slated this deal. I gave the deal heat as it's a great price for the seat. Good price or not, it doesn't negate the fact that rf is safer than ff. Sometimes rf is not always possible and this I think is the next best thing.
2 of my deals were for erf seats, a 3rd for a hbb and the 4th for a 123 seat that was a good deal for anyone on the hunt for that seat.

It is easy to interpret both these statements from your previous post as negative toward this particular seat. If you agree that this is a good deal why not add that sentiment to your comment and save the hassle if this to and fro.

I thought the law was that any child under 15 months had to be rear facing, as that is the safest way for then to travel? if so how can they advertise this for from 9 months when it's proven to not be as safe as rear facing?
niggit to roots

That’s true, but I think it’s car seats made from next year have to be advertised as that. Maybe why more and more car seats and coming on offer. So technically they’re not worth the money at all.

It is definitely not as safe to forward face at 9 months than at 15 months or even better rear facing up to age 4 if possible.

It isn't illegal though. The seats that meet the old regulations which don't test side impact at all and only test forward crash at 30 miles per hour and 20 for a rear crash can still be sold.
The shop isn't meant to sell a forward facing seat for a baby under 15 months anymore but that can only be applied in reality if you took the baby to the shop to try it out.
It seems a lot of people don't realise it isn't just the age of the baby / height that changed for rear facing it's the crash tests for the newer Isize seats are put through tougher crash tests.

Rear facing car seats are so important for the safety of children and the UK is far behind other countries. My eldest daughter is nearly 8, I did a lot of research before buying her second car seat following on from her first rear facing one which was approved up until about 9 months of age or so. I was adamant from my research that rear facing was the safest option for her. I went to all of the usual mainstream retailers, including retailers such as Mothercare. I was basically told that forward facing was the only option. When asking about what selection of rear facing seats in Kiddicare (I went over with my partner in person to their store in Peterborough) I was told that they would be no good for my child and that they were big, bulky and for disabled children. Thinking back I should have complained about this at the time, I had done my research, rear facing is safer and the so called "experts" were telling me otherwise. In the end I ordered online, this was not ideal as I could not test the fit properly in my car before ordering, but I was adamant that my daughter would travel in a rear facing car seat. I ordered online the Besafe iZi Combi X3 Isofix, this is a good car seat, however is bulky and cumbersome to move between cars. So following the birth of my second daughter, six years after my first daughter, there was more choice and I ordered a Britax Romer Dualfix. I am writing this comment to highlight the importance of doing research before buying the car seat that could potentially save your child's life. Only in the last couple of years are attitudes starting to change and are moving towards rear facing car seats- it always seemed, with my first daughter, that friends, parents down at school thought it strange that I should still be having my daughter travel rear facing, them thinking that her legs were cramped and she had no kind of view whilst travelling. I am so glad that attitudes are starting to change, and hopefully extended rear facing, until around 4 years of age will become norm. in the future and more importantly as demand increases, hopefully prices will come down so that they are affordable to everyone. Sorry rant over xx

360finder, you are way too sensitive.

You seem to be taking offence to people stating that rear facing car seats are safer than front facing seats. You seem hell bent for an argument.

Yeah £100 might be a good price but it's still helpful for people to know, who might not, about the benefits of rear facing.

As someone above said, you might think it's more practical or comfortable for a child to be in a forward facing seat, but it's when a collision occurs is when it matters.

Anyway, feel free to take offence to this and start looking at previous deals I've posted...
