Amazon only a couple of quid more if it's easier .....
Its the cheapest deal at the moment for 480gb/500gb ssds.
I have a 480gb BX200 - purchased it at £89, but you wont see those prices again.
Prices of all IT goods have increased between 20% and 50% since Brexit, including for other reasons so you cannot compare current to past prices.

I bought a 750Gb MX300 SSD last November, for £105 from Amazon. Wish I'd bought more, they're double that price now.

Most IT stuff hasn't gone up that much since the pound lost ground immediately following that referendum. The two things that have gone up the most are the usual culprits; those whose primary component is a traded commodity. RAM and NAND are traded like other commodities such as oil, wheat, gold etc which is why products based on them have such volatile pricing. There are other factors but this is the main one outside of the occasional earthquake/flood etc and price fixing. It's one of the many downsides of capitalism.

see prices of memory cards and hard drives. They definitely have for the equivalent products - same sizes similar specs but slightly different branding. The BX has been discontinued and replaced with MX. Memory cards also the same trick. Its the same memory card but now has a slightly different label. I buy IT hardware and software all the time - many times each day and speak directly to suppliers so can confirm this is definitely the case.
Other items have not increased so much but that is because the market has been flooded by cheap Chinese imports.

The BX300 has only been out for a month or two so I hardly think it's been discontinued. The BX and MX SSD's are different
products. BX = budget, MX = mainstream (more features etc.)

Indeed, its pure profiteering under the guise of Brexit. Brexit happened in June 2016, yet someone got it for £105 in November. There have been no floods in Thailand or other earth shattering events since then, except the bluster of the buffoon in the white house and fartings from the mouths of Boris and May.

You forget to mention the devaluing of the pound that has caused all imports cost more. Hello inflation.

Yes that is the excuse all the suppliers I contacted have used. Most of the products are sourced from overseas and are priced in us dollars irrespective of where it is bought from. So 20% devaluation has led to a direct 20% increase in like for like prices. In many cases much more. There are still many products that can be bought cheaper - ie tvs and monitors have never been cheaper but there are other factors involved in these.

It is interesting that the pound is today only about 6% lower than it was before the EU referendum was announced (Feb 2016). If there is still a lag since the exchange was in the $1.20's, then prices should start to go down in the near future to reflect the upturn in the rate for the last few months. HDD prices appear to be back close to what they were 18 months or so ago, which is good news.

I think that companies increased prices partly due to the currency fluctuation but also due to the uncertainty that Brexit created. Uncertainty tends to spook markets and they mark you down for it. So even if the currency returns to the pre-referendum rate unless the sentiment also changes I think many companies won't reduce prices. Like it or not this is the way markets work and makes sense to a degree as companies don't like to make frequent changes to pricing so wait until they have to.

Through a combination of factors mentioned throughout this thread, SSD prices are still being kept high. It's a guess but I suspect pricing is also based on the low $1.20's rate. If it stays consistently in the $1.30's or higher, they will have to reflect this sooner or later. Like I said, HDD prices are back to pre Brexit type levels so there is some movement going on now in certain areas.
It is perhaps telling that on Amazon.com some SSD prices have this year gone up in the same way as they have over here, others have dropped. The SSD market is all over the place right now, irrespective of country.

No, I didn't miss what you read because you did agree that currency was part of it. I'm pointing out that a part of that is the exchange rate and if the exchange rate improves vs the $, that part will lower the prices somewhat in the short to medium term. There are many other things that might keep prices higher but the £ vs $ won’t be a part of it.
