A good one for Fords is ETIS. You can enter your registration or VIN and it will tell you if there are any outstanding recalls or updates. etis.ford.com

Found out about a part being covered under an extended warranty using ford etis. The franchised dealer had conveniently not mentioned it and were proposing to charge 600 quid to replace it.

Not sure how many people know about this. There are two kinds of recalls - one is the safety recall that is managed by DVSA. which is what is listed on this website.
The other type of recall is called NCA (Non coded action) that is manufacturer led recall. you will need to go through all the NCA bulletins listed on DVSA website to identify if your car is impacted. This is manufacturer led so DVSA don't manage these recalls. It is purely in the hands of the manufacturer and your luck to have impacted vehicles recalled and fixed.
I am currently in a battle between DVSA and Renault UK with a broken down car, which should have been recalled by the manufacturer in 2014 but missed due to their negligence. DVSA say they dont manage the process and trying to get away from the issue, motoring ombudsman say they can only help within the warranty period and Renault UK doesnt want to do anything as this could mean they will have to fix other vehicles that they missed due to their negligence.

I own VW CC car but this DVLA recall site doesn't recognise it, so Govt can't tell if any recall come through. This car had the recall in relation to infamous dieselgate scandal! DVLA do recognise the car model when it comes to paying for road tax and MOT.
Isn't it these days that manufacturers use DVLA data to send recall notices in post to rightful owners? I certainly did get one last month for airbag recall on 52 plate Toyota.

The site only lists vehicles if they’ve been recalled, The optional emissions fix isn't a safety issue so presumably wouldn't be an official recall. There have been reports of the fix causing safety problems, with some cars going into limp mode:- autocar.co.uk/car…ion

So if my car is listed what should i do? Contact the dealer and they do the work for free? Will they do it all at once if it has more then one job ? Is there any restrictions to this for example age of car in warranty etc ?
BattleBeast1 to Hotknife
23 Sep 17#28
It will be free although some dealers will try it on and ask for money.....best get in touch with the manufacturers helpline first, there's no age limit,I know of cars 10-15 years old being repaired...the dealers claim of the manufacturer for parts and labour....you would need to book the car in,if there were a couple of recalls on the car it could be more than one appointment.....most recalls are safety issues so having a full service history doesn't apply as most of these items would be non serviceable parts.

Just ring any of your cars manufacturers dealers and ask the service department if there are ANY OUTSTANDING recalls for your vehucle.(they'll need your registration plate number or VIN number). They know which recalls have been done and whuch are/aren't applicable for your specific car. If any are outstanding book it in....you don't pay for any recall work. Your dealer will be up to date with any outstanding recalls whereas online sites including the GOV site MAY not especially if it's a recent recall or safety recall.

that's why you need to be aware of any recall
I guess with people religiously using the brand dealer, they are more likely to get told about the recall, maybe during a regular service
others (like myself) who now never use the brand dealer but prefer the local garage lads, would need to establish the recall notice themselves then arrange to get this repair done by the brand dealer

Well, we have a recall letter from Nissan and we booked for an appointment in Romford dealership. On that very day, when my son had to drive the car up to this part of the world, we had a phone call, asking us if we would like to sell our car. I said no. Then we were told that WE DIDN'T NEED TO BOTHER to go fo the appointment as the parts were not there!
How nasty was that??? Can you hear me, Romford Nissan?

My Hyundai i800 doesn't even appear on the list. But if anyone on this site has one and hasn't had the rear heater pipes swapped for modified alloy ones then take it back to the dealer. Mine were swapped under warranty a year ago but have now been done again as Hyundai are aware there was an issue with the original design. So different to Vauxhall who don't acknowledge issues with wiper pattern on Zafira A (a mod kit is available at huge cost) or rear door electrics on any model in the last 30 years. Recalls are only done if forced, not Just because they know there's an issue.

It's worth checking / registering with the original manufacturers anyway. Sometimes a recall is recalled, and a few year ago there were loads of airbags recalled. The site will tell you of them, but not if your car went for the recall, so you'd have to check anyway.
