I went for the transcend 400x 32gb which is recommended on carcamcentral.com as the best budget buy. Available on Amazon for about £15. I installed this dashcam today and I'm pretty impressed so far. The menu is easy to navigate and the video quality is excellent. I could easily read the number plates of cars passing on the other side of the road when pausing the video.

I never understand it, some of us post similar deals from Chinese sellers and they get pulled in a few milliseconds and yet others remain on here.
I mean, this seller has a somewhat questionable business address!

Fair enough but the fact is totally legitimate UK companies, let alone obscure unknown Chinese sellers don't get treated the same. Many of us post deals from legitimate companies, UK, Europe or China and they get pulled, often as the seller is stated as being of unknown provenance, ie low buyer feedback or a questionable lack of details regarding the company and those are often fulfilled by Amazon.
Ultimately money talks and that's just how it is.

Good spec for the money but I don't like the tripod screen mounted dashcams, the ones that stick directly to the glass and can be hidden behind the mirror get my vote.
There are cheaper versions with the same style but I rate the Rexing V1 very highly.
Here's some footage from my Rexing that had over 10m views on Facebook.

Like the look of the cam and the fact that it can be hidden behind the rear-view mirror. Video quality looks decent but I've noticed you can't really see the number plates of vehicles that are a few car lengths ahead or passing by.
you_gotta_be_kidding to dbecks07
7 Sep 17#46
I prefer my one, my mirror is a lot closer to the screen than the one in the pic and that cam couldn't go behind it, I also like the screen on mine as when I'm driving I know it's recording correctly.
But hey each to their own and I'm glad you have one, more companies should copy Tesla and have dashcams built in IMO.

I watched the video you posted on full screen as I was keen to see if the registration number can be seen and read (as it is not blotted out). My reason for this is that I have a different miniature dashcam which has recorded many similar incidents - yet trying to make out the actual registration number of a vehicle overtaking is not possible. If the dashcam is not immediately behind another vehicle and close to it - trying to read a registration number of another vehicle going past is problematic. I wondered if it was just my dashcam - but looks like this one is the same.
you_gotta_be_kidding to bluetang

The quality of the original footage and the footage on YouTube is VERY different, YouTube compresses the footage a lot. The original is clear as can be. It's like Blu-ray quality.

Is it worth having GPS on a dashcam?
you_gotta_be_kidding to bluesnoop85
7 Sep 17#45
I read an article on BBC news about this, the GPS main purpose is to prove your speed if that's a factor in any accident however because your device is not calibrated to your car it's not admissible as but evidence either in court or by an insurer so most manufacturers don't even add GPS anymore. It's a gimmick.
ianking to you_gotta_be_kidding

I disagree. I have 2 cars, both with discreetly mounted dashcams+gps front and rear. I have had these installed for over 3 years and I decided from the outset that I would only buy a dashcam with a GPS. Fast forward in time and one of my cars was sidewiped by an HGV pulling into the nearside lane without any warning whatsoever. The dashcam footage from both front and rear cameras including the GPS location was used by the insurance company to assist in persuing my claim.
Aside from that, the footage can be copied off the camera onto a PC, then with a free program from off the net, you can replay the footage with a window alongside it displaying google maps with the car location as the journey progresses. It also shows the speed :-). Handy if say footage of driving through the fells & dales & passes in the Lake District. I like it but your mileage may vary.... :-)

My Aukey deals were pulled for supposed self promotional reasons according to the mods. I hadn't seen other dashcams with of this chipset (NOVATEK Nt96658) either, nor videos of any night footage - the only camera footage I could find was mediocre (and not that particular model) looks like a 25 quid dashcam to me, and no flexibility for mounting it either!
For value for money I am still sticking to the various variants of G1W and G1WH and A118 dashcams with Novatek 96650/AR0330 chipsets (NOT those with newer & poorer quality Novatek 96220 chipsets) for less money. (25 to 35 quid each range). I have a G1WH back and front. There is day and night footage all over the place to look at.

I have one, didn't want to spend a lot of money on a Dashcam. It's not as discrete as the stick on window ones but, then again its only £40. The quality of the video is excellent, you can also get a GPS module to add GPS and speed to the video.
I really want to buy that dash cam, I've been impressed with everything Anker so far. Only flaw thats stopped me buying one? No rear camera. So concidering the Rexing V1
That's all been resolved as HUKD have now arranged a kickback from Aukey, so it's all go go go spamming their deals!
I mean, don't post a load of your deals on our website unless we are getting a cut - just ask gearbest. Anyone for a cheap security or action camera? £300 cheaper than a gopro and does exactly the same things - genuine videos on youtube to prove it :stuck_out_tongue:
