An Evening with Johnny Ball
Thursday 26 October, 6.30pm
Books, lower ground
We’re delighted to welcome Johnny Ball, by some margin Britain's most famous mathematician. Wonders Beyond Numbers is his first book over a decade. A celebration of his love for the subject, it ranges from ancient Egypt to the present day, from Russian sums in an English pub, circa 1946 to the ‘many tentacles’ of modern mathematics underpinning astronomy, computing, network theory, topology and much more. Join Johnny for a fun and fact-filled evening which will kindle – or re-kindle- your enthusiasm for this astonishing subject.
Tickets £6, (=£1.95) available from Customer Services, floor 2 or online.
Includes a glass of wine and £5 off the book when purchased on the evening.
Concessions tickets available for 14 - 16 year olds. Please contact Customer Services on 01603 660661
An evening with a living legend for under £10

The only UK radio station I listen to now is Radio 4, and even then I, pretty much, only listen to the Today program via the internet. I find all the other UK stations so dire that if I want to listen to music I look to internet only stations.

He was famous for being a Children's TV show presenter - but you might need to be 40ish to remember him. He presented "Playschool" along with several Science and Maths shows for children - notably "Johnny Ball Reveals All". He's also the father of Radio 1 DJ Zoe Ball - who was the first woman to present the R1 Breakfast show.

I'm sure it was lots of fun and Johnny's still as and funny as ever you just don't get children's presenters like that anymore or programs of that quality and certainly not a studio of kids having fun throwing paper aeroplanes n stuff around without safety goggles and a health n safety assessment carried out
Am surprised at the amount of votes added (220) nice one people :raised_hand:
It's a reminder when kids were left to be kids and play and have fun and learning was fun very interactive and adventurous without all the bureaucratic red tape i doubt many kids these days would put their ipads tablets etc down long enough to take an interest but i'm sure a lots of kids back then who grew up watching the likes of Johnny ball were influenced and inspired and went on to do great things with their lives
he might not hold all the top academic marks or be but he's certainly Britain's most loved n respected mathematician and some "30/40 Years later" he still gets a lot of recognition and respect. he's living proof you don't need to do outstanding at school to have a successful career and go on to do great things he's certainly got character and personality which can often get you further in life than an academic result
I really hope it's a sell out for him and wish him All The Best with his new book Thanks for the memories Johnny Ball A truly Great Man

Title should be amended to Jarrolds store Norwich. It is part of Norwich science week, if you can get there! . If you sign up for the visit Norwich email list they are very good at PR for Norwich but are let down by the transport. You need a car as the rail network is diabolical. Hopefully all the anti car councilors measures, to increase congestion, with unnecessary road works, cycle ways, bus lanes, new one ways, speed humps new, traffic lights, and yellow line disease, will be finished by 26th October?
BTW. Absolute Radio rocks, from memory on wave 1215
