Oh you're sooooo funny. Do you want to go even further back in AMD's history? To a time when AMD made better Intel processors than Intel did.

Triggered? Go cry somewhere else kid. Stop living in the past, we're living in todays world comparing the two.

I could use my 'Tears' to cool your Intel CPU if you'd like, though no tears available. My Ryzen 1700 is just fine. Would you like to borrow a hammer and chisel to get your lid off?

Strongly recommended as best value mid-range gaming CPU by tomshardware.
Ryzen 5 1600 fills the pricing gap between Core i5-7500 and -7600K. Factoring in the unlocked ratio multiplier and beefy stock cooler, it's the best mid-range value choice. If you have the cash, we recommend stepping up to the Ryzen 5 1600 over Intel's Core i5-7500. At stock settings, it's also very close to the Core i5-7600K in newer games.

Will overclock almost as well as the 1600X based on (admittedly anecdotal) evidence. Also worth noting that this CPU includes its own heatsink/fan, which is a pretty decent cooler compared with other stock coolers. This is my favourite CPU out of the Ryzen line-up!
However, any gamers who don't desperately ******* need a CPU TODAY should definitely wait 16 more days to see what Coffee Lake brings.

Personally given the mess that intel motherboards are in with one nearly coming out every 3 quarters i'd just avoid intel like the plague
forget coffee lake, ice lake and poo lake ..
oh and the six billion mother boards that you'd need to buy if you needed to upgrade the cpu..
[sarcasm muchie but its on point]

You would have been on point just a couple of short decades ago, but considering how CPUs have plateaued over the last decade, simply buy a decent one and it should last you 5+ years anyway.
Although to be fair, at the time I bought it I was rubbing my hands with glee at the fact my Z68 would support the upcoming Ivy Bridge!
Just to re-emphasise, that's the Gigabyte Gaming 3 B350 (as there's also a Gigabyte Gaming B350!)

I'm sorry, I'm not sure of the relevance..? Doesn't it weaken your cut-off-your-nose-to-spite-your-face argument against buying Intel because of the short motherboard compatibility lifespans, as delaying Cannonlake will lengthen Coffee Lake's market relevance? You just complained about new chips coming out every three quarters... why are you now complaining that it's longer?
Or are you conflating Coffee Lake and Cannonlake?

Currently looking to upgrade (see here hotukdeals.com/dis…661) was looking at intel but would this fit the bill? If so can anyone recommend a motherboard to go with it?

How much do you wanna spend on a motherboard?

As always as little as possible but say £100 max.

I'd recommend the Gigabyte Gaming 3 b350, prob the best under 100

Heated good price. I don't need to upgrade yet for a bit but might be looking to do so next year funds permitting. Think I would look at the big brother to this the 1700 (and 1800) for the extra cores and hopefully by the time I come to upgrade the 1700 at least might be dropping into the £200 region, well I can wish at least! With PC component prices lately they will probably still be exactly the same price....

I bought mine with an Asus B350 prime - there's a promotion on at the moment (possibly not from Amazon though) asus-promotion.eu/am4…tml

That promotion is if you buy a system build PC with those components. If you're just buying an Asus X370 / B350 motherboard with a 1700X or 1800X you can receive Everspace and 2 free games >> asus-promotion.eu/am4…tml
