This deal has been running a while, but it was only in a small number of stores as a trial. The money goes to Action Against Hunger. Slightly galling that they are fully admitting the food would otherwise be thrown away (!) but it's better than nothing.

Same in most major supermarkets etc, only thing is that it goes to the charity of Turkeys belly
10p for an all day breakfast sandwich from Tesco at 10pm tastes so much better than one at 1pm at £2.50.
Voted cold by the way, charity starts at home and its not like enough people arent supporting charities in their own way without it been forced upon us.

Starbucks are offering soon to be out of date stuff cheap so they can get people in, I wonder if them people will buy stuff that isn't out of date and make an extra profit for themselves?

If you donate through their site the government will double it
Errr, I think the deal is that if you happen to be there 1hr and 5 /10 mins before closing, why not hang on to get your food item half price? That's the actual deal.

Perhaps they could donate some of the tax they don't pay to the same charity.

Hear, hear. This is the reason I never go to Starbucks unless I have a voucher for a freebie

It's not tax if they don't pay it...

This cuts down their waste and saves on rubbish collection costs. They are not doing it to be charitable they are doing it to be more efficient. It is cheaper to give the stuff away for nothing at the end of the day. Pay your taxes and many more people will not go hungry or homeless. Do not pay your taxes and you create a demand for these false charitable givings.

Would this be the same Starbucks that declared on Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's programme that they were going to give a 50p discount to people who brought their own mugs, to cut down on waste, and then quietly withdrew it three months later?
Yes - I believe it was always 25p; they gamed the programme by announcing a very generous 50p which they then withdrew quietly. I wouldn't know as I avoid multinational coffee shops if at all possible - their strategy is to use their financial might to flood an area until they have crushed all the local competition.
