Previous Argos price was £24.99 though, so a nice saving, but ...

.... a £5 saving. Heat to OP

I gave it heat. But it's expectation management, isn't it? You think it's a £40 saving, and that makes the actual saving of £5 less impressive.

It depends how much you think it’s worth. For £19.99 with a rechargeable battery it’s a Billy Bargain!

The point was about expectation management though ... Getting £5 off feels more like Billy Bargain, if someone hasn't first given the impression it's £40.

No DAB+ ? This would be like buying an MP2 player instead of an MP3 player

An unfair example. There’s very few DAB+ stations currently on air and DAB will be around for a good while yet.

It's not unfair at all. DAB literally uses an antiquated codec which predates MP3. DAB+ has been around for over a decade. Most countries use DAB+. Those that lag behind like UK will eventually commit to DAB+ too and discontinue DAB.

How long is eventually? My bet is you will get a good few years out of a DAB radio in this country

What is the alternative you would recommend for £20???

DAB+ is already in the UK

I respectfully disagree. Radios tend to be an item which are not replaced for a long time (years, decades even). Stations are already transitioning from DAB to DAB+ (Jack FM Surrey and Radio Newark to name two examples) and the only way I can listen to Jazz FM here free-to-air without data caps is via DAB+. DAB+ will only grow. Better to future proof your purchase than to pay twice.

DAB and FM is a minimum, most people aren't even aware of DAB+

A lot of stations have stopped airing on DAB and have switched to DAB+
On my DAB radio there are hardly any stations.
I used to listen to Planet Rock until it went DAB+ then I got into Radio 4 Extra.
These are all good: The Cold Swedish Winter. Old Harrys Game. Ed Reardon's Week. Paradise - Lost in Space.

Planet Rock is not on Dab+. From what I gather, theres a couple of low usage stations there to test it, ones not missed. The problem for Dab+ is that with streaming, people will not upgrade their sets if channels go astray. So Dab+ might never arrive for main radio stations.
Price is OK for this, though obviously it was never worth £70
