Decent price from Gearbest as part of their flash sale. I paid £27.59 last month, great product!

I've had trouble pairing these and yeelights with Alexa and my home network. Not much tech help offered from GearBest and I don't speak mandarin which doesn't help. Just be cautious.

Yeelights pair easily with both smart phones and Alexa. Be sure to try the apps on the playstore and appstore rather than just the QR codes usually included on the instructions.

Are they stand alone? And does each strip need its own wall socket to power it?

yes they are stand alone.. no hub needed. and yes each one needs its own power point. it will come with chinese 2 pin with UK adapter. can be a pig to pair, download yeelight, turn on your location services, and then do the wifi instructions as per the screen info. to reset these (so that you can repair or connect to a new wifi) you need to turn them off, press the button on the control unit and keep it pressed.. turn them on at the wall for 5 seconds- the lights will run a cycle scrolling through the colours and then go off. thats when they have been reset and now you should have a flashing orange light rather than blue.

I have one of these HIGHLY recommend it, down side is the 2 pin plug but for the price does the same job as the Philips brands

I got 2 strip lights off ebay and plugged them into a TP Link plug (for under kitchen wall units)
similar price but more LED's for your buck

Excellent suggestion - you may have actually given me a reason to finally buy those tp link plugs!

I use TP Link plugs for the following
Led strip lights (kitchen) Kettle (Kitchen) Lamp (Front Room) Fan (Bedroom) (on off through the night on a schedule) TV (front room)
Got most of them for £16:49 from Argos a while back
I pre load the kettle at night and switch it on from the Bedroom before I go downstairs (Alexa).
The fan is a god send at the moment but when it gets cooler, i'll re name the plug "Strip light" and put it back downstairs.
Also will come in handy for the christmas lights.
PS: Named the Kettle plug "Katrina" after my wife's best mate
Been turning her on for months!

The Yeelight for £23.16 is hot for the price, and your best option for a plug and play 2m LED strip with smart options.
However, if you don't need the
Alexa etc-integration and you just want the wifi+app control, you can get a lot more for your money. Consider an LED Strip and wifi controller and Power adapter sold separately. (Info:RGB vs RGBW)
Yeelight 2 metres, 30 LEDs per metre (RGB) = £23.16 Wifi/App control: Yes Alexa etc: Yes
eBay+Amazon 5 metres, 60 LEDS per metre (RGBW) = £17.39 Wifi/App control: Yes Alexa etc: No

Cheers for this, for less than £20 will be a brilliant home hobby. Which App controls the WiFi controller though, will o be emailed a link once I buy the lights or is there a generic one I can use?
Thanks

I don't own one so don't swear me to it, but I'm fairly sure it will be the 'Magic Home' app, as written on the wifi module. You can pick it up on the appstore and Google Play.

If you don't have Alexa, use the Yeelight app - that allows you to control the light strip from your phone and you can set up groups as well.
