Pretty decent rate via Uswitch for fast fiber broadband, phone and line rental, Vivid 100mb is £30 and Vivid 200mb for £35 respectively.Worth adding Quidco offer £30 on any Uswitch deal or £80 cashback on Virgin Media purchases but not sure of the success rate going direct.

I don't think it is £720 for 100mbps. According to the uswitch website it is £380.00 over the 12 months.

I know Wi-Fi is slower than connected internet. but a 95% decrease seems a bit drastic. anyways just to prove I'm not getting 100 here is the results from my ps4 connected directly to the router at 8am

31791299.jpgMine on 200Mbps. Goes up and down a lot though.

Not that it actually matters on a ps4 because downloads never work at those speeds, might get closer to it on rest mode but the system can't download that fast.

Sounds like you're on the 2.4GHz wireless band. If you're equipment can pick up 5GHz try and set that up as the preferred connection or look into a wireless repeater/range extender.

I've had the same issue with the Virgin 100mb connection. Its been terrible this year, and I've even set it up to the above method of 5Ghz. Had enough of it and the double whammy now of price increase so leaving them asap. I know its 'up to 100mb' but as the other post says, when you just get 5-10mb regularly, whats the point.

I'm sooooo fed up of Virgin continually putting prices up and added costs here and there. Nowhere near the speeds we're supposed to get. Can barely use the Internet sometimes. Seriously considering ditching them for a far cheaper alternative!
sam_of_london to Trumpet777
25 Aug 17 #22
Their price increases are for their existing customers who cannot be bothered or asked to look at their bills or change. If you join them again as new customer or threaten to leave by giving one month notice , you can get both faster speed and pay less money. For a little pain you gain lots more.

Hi Sam,

This is what we've always done and have always benefitted. The problem is we are about to put our flat on the market and don't want to be tied to Virgin as they renew your contract when you downgrade your package. Stuck at the moment but at £70 a month, I'd love to tell them to take it away. That's only with a more basic package!. Aargh!

Yes I didnt realise theyd put my bb bill up to £28 in May without telling me. So theyve put it up twice. I rang to query then cancel and he said he was concerned as we were high users on 300. On the upper limits and that if I went to BT we'd struggle. My boy must be using a lot through the summer holidays.

Is this true? Or does BT struggle with higher usage please?

Any network but don't touch talktalk! I went for talktalk 2yrs ago because we rent a flat it didn't have internet, and talktalk given the earliest activation date. the confirmation of live date was in about 2 weeks. sounds good. but they kept changing the date, delayed for nearly a month which was extremely nightmare! we had to use mobile tethering. cost me over £50. and they just gave us a very little compensation. however nightmare was not end, they keep inceasing the bill as they said they are improving the service, wtf, nothing improved since we used them, even worse and worse. we initially signed up with 6months contract only, as we've planed to move to new home after 6months. so after 6months we were ready to move to new house and happy to end up with them, called them, they said we are on 18months contract! what the hell! and if we move house, the contract will refresh, which means we will stuck with them for another 18months. we wanted to paid up bill and go for other network, but again, only talktalk can setup faster than other companies because(they promised) move house process quicker and new house got the line, then we agreed again with talktalk. I WAS ABSOLUTELY FOOLISH! It was just another nightmate started! they changed the Live date again and again, another 2 weeks delay! I was tired to ring the customer service, they drove me on the wall everytime. In 2yrs, my bill has gone up to about £40/m, internet still as bad as usual. far far worse than Virgin which i thought it was bad. NOW, my contract will be finished next month, i may go back to Virgin, I really miss their service, and never look on talktalk again, even they offer me for free.

Anyone upset with virgin can leave free of any early exit charge since there prices are rising above inflation, i got an email last week so im sure many others have.

I'd seriously like to consider moving from Virgin and go cheaper, but scared. We are on the 200mb unlimited fibre and are very heavy internet users. There are 3 teens in the house who all game, stream and download. I just don't know if any other provider could come close to what we currently get. The kids would never forgive me if I lost the internet for a year on a cheaper contract. I think Virgin can smell the fear when I phone to negotiate.
sam_of_london to holeymoley18
25 Aug 17 #20
You can give one month notice if you got price rise letter. Then get 300 speed as much better offer for students with only 9 month contract with contract under the name of your children . Otherwise get this offer as new customer. When retention call you can mention this offer as well. Unless you threaten to leave them by giving one month notice, you will get nothing except price rises as they treat existing customers as cash cow.

We have recently switched from 200 Mb Virgin to Sky , and felt exactly the same, heavy internet users etc but I have to say how good it is, We got Sky fibre max providing 76 Mb down &18 mbps up on the speed test, not as fast as Virgin in a Speedtest but in practical speeds we've seen no difference, web pages , games etc plus the Ping is way better 6ms! I really noticed the difference in fast games like BF1.. & that's with the kids streaming at the same time! Sky Q beats the new TiVo V6 easily, only negative thing is the router has 2 ports?!? But both gigabit so add a switch..plus the download speed from Steam maxes out at 9-10 Mbps we did have 21mbps via Virgin but for the cost difference and better ping I'll wait a bit longer to download a game:)
We would have stayed with Virgin but they didn't offer anything to keep us while Sky offered everything half price  so playing £45 to Sky for more channels as opposed to £72 Virgin for less..
Hope that helps.. it's a silly game but you got try for the deals or they will keep upping the price!

Bit the bullet and phoned mentioning this deal. Eventually, after an hour of insisting I was leaving as an disgruntled customer, I was offered a better deal than I had. After the planned rise I would have been paying £720 pa for 200mb and basic player TV. I have now agreed to pay £532 over the next 12 months, same TV but includes an upgrade to 300mb. A reduction of nearly £200.

Granted the deal on this post worked out at £440 for 200mb (before any possible cashback), but it was without any TV. Think the player TV costs about a fiver a month, so would have made it up to £500pa. Effectively I'll be paying £32pa more for the additional speed, but not bad as an existing customer.

I just think the new customer deals should be scrapped. The marketplace should be more transparent with everyone paying the same for the services they use! Don't see why they should expect long standing accounts to subsidise new customer deals that we aren't privy to.

I know the feeling. I have just 1 teen and Virgin say we are using 300. The upper limits. But they put my bill up to £28 without telling me. But ive heard horror stories about BT. Virgin say they have the strongest BB but heard that from others. But would like cheaper.

I signed up a few months back. Dreadful, barely 1Mbps on a 100Mbps service. The dreaded overutilization or to put it another way over selling.
Got out in the 14 days.
I'd suggest checking the VM community forum to see if your area has an overutilization fault. If it does avoid, if not go for it.

25 Aug 17 #24
I'm currently on the 100 meg speed and wired get close to or sometimes exceeds that. Wireless of course is a different matter getting around 67-80 admittedly after VM having to make changes due a large number of other customers utilising the same feed or something like that. So now its working it's brilliant and as someone mentioned above if there is a number of people all accessing the internet at the same time with heavy usage a decent speed is a most and Virgin know that to date only they can provide speeds of up 300 meg so aren't too bothered in raising prices.

However there are some people who will complain about the cost but won't do anything to reduce it, in terms of threatening to leave. Just today I was having a discussion with a friend who is paying over £100 per month and has not even bothered to try and haggle when it came renew.

I am in the process of finally leaving Virgin Media BB and I cna't stress this enough - I CANNOT LEAVE SOON ENOUGH
Please, please I explore you all, do not sign up with Virgin, they treat you like crap as a customer, their call centres for help are all in bloody India or Phillipines so for them English is their second language, so trying to explain things when there is a problem is a total nightmare.
Also Virgin Media like to send through price increases and do so every 9 months or so and even if you're in a contract, your not immune to the increases. They like to sneak tha one past you in their T&C's fine print.
Last;y, they dont care if you've been with them for 5 years or 5 minutes, all you are is a cash-cow to them to exploit.
Hope this helps and even if its just one person who I make think twice before signing to Virgin Media then I'll be happy.
Enjoy your long weekend people.

I'm seeing a lot of people here getting very slow speeds. That's a fault and you'll need to phone Virgin up.

Makes my blood boil that they give you a deal then a couple of months later it goes up.However iv'e always finished up with a better deal after cancelling my contract. In june my free line rental was ending so rang and was told we don't give free line rental anymore,That was a lie i cancelled the lot 2 days later retentions rang and they knocked £3 off my price upped bb from 100mb to 150mb and gave me another year free line rental. Then i got the email a couple of weeks back so rang monday cancelled the lot,They rang me wednesday finished up same price it was plus got a free v6 box and new hub 3 router.
So my deal is.
150mb BB
Fun tv package

Caller id
new v 6 box and hub 3 router coming next tuesday
£30-05 including the line rental.

Trust me, 200 is insanely fast when downloading stuff. If you've got multiple users on the connection then you'll benefit greatly especially if you're all streaming Netflix, playing games online and downloading large files. If you're just one or two using the connection then I guess 50 is fine
boomish to Shakeyyy
25 Aug 17 #17
I thought exactly that but believe me I haven't noticed the difference on our new 75mb Fibre max, if I use a FTP for work, I see the difference in download speed but streaming and gaming nothing apart from downloading a game via steam. In fact if anything the ping is way better on Sky for us! I've had monitor on my Virgin Broadband for over a year as the Superb 3 has a terrible lag problem caused by a faulty chipset, it's a known fault and it's still yet to have the fix rolled out. I eventually just put up with it, so I'm glad to see the fast ping from Sky. But thats not guaranteed were just lucky we have a good telephone connection.

I use bt infinity and get close to 50, it's fine for my needs and I have 3 smart tvs steam downloads, sky q w multi room, 4 iPads and 2 iPhones and it doesn't blink an eye. For most people 200 is completely unneccessary unless downloading 50-60gb games on a frequent basis. The bt hub 6 was a nightmare to setup though, it would revoke ip addresses randomly so I had to set them all up as static took a while to figure it out!

Virgin do a package with some decent TV channels, 100mb and phone / line rental for £55 a month sadly in might have to take this up as my sky is due to go up to £80pm in October with no decent deals around :disappointed:

I might be the odd one out. But I am paying £33 a month ( + qudico £80 so more like £27) I get speeds of about 95-105, TV ,broadband and phone. I'm only in zone 6. funnily enough the only thing i can't get is decent mobile reception.
