Why is that bad thing? Most beers now are brewed in the UK. In a lot of cases a portion of/or all of the ingredients (minus the water) are from the original country of origin. Fosters for example, still uses some Australian ingredients. It saves a hell of a lot of cash (and greenhouse gases) not importing heavy loaded liquid filled bottles.

The 4.8 tax saver killed many of previous decent beers

Waitrose Spanish lager is brewed in Spain. I believe Estrella in Spain. Not sure about Staropramen, could be brewed in Czech Rep. Sainsburys own brand Staropramen (spelling) is brewed by Staropramen in Czech Rep. Not sure about Mahou.
It's about the taste, some people don't mind it if it's brewed here eg Fosters.
It's a good price for the 12 bottles.

Water Profile. Beers/Lagers brewed under licence elsewhere, taste nothing like the origins of the beer. As usually they are drinks tweaked to taste. As soon as you change something, then you are going to get a different tasting end product. You can try to make a water as close as possible to the original, but it will never be exactly the same due to the amount of various minerals, etc. that balance out the taste of the beer.

I'd rather have 2 330ml bottles than 1 500ml.

depends on the price per ml :P - but it gets a bit tedious when you get to the drink/pee/drink/pee routine!
