Fantastic app! I paid a few quid for it and thought it was worth it, let alone 89p!

Is it still worth buying this now that we have IFTTT?

Hmm. Do I need Tasker? Nope. Will I buy it....what's google rewards credit for if you don't use it?! :smile:
I had a hacked version years ago but never put the effort in to work out how to get the most out of it.

Any idea how much is this increasing battery usage? Assuming it is yet another app running constantly in the background

To be honest, I've had it in my watch list for years and it's never been on offer (as far as I know) so I'm gonna buy it for 89p.

I've been using AutomateIt and IFTTT and they're both very useful. I'm sure I'll find a use for Tasker too. If not, only 89p lost; no big drama :-)

Thanks - been eyeing this up for ages. No idea what i need it for yet, but will have a play at some point!

I'll just share some examples of how I use tasker everyday:

Simple location profiles (Mute phone at work, low volume at home and max while out)
Disabling and enabling auto-rotate when I need it based on location
Bluetooth music profile to increase media volume to 80% and play music after connecting to my car. Mutes media volume on disconnection to avoid "awkward" moments :wink:
Store current ringer volume and mute when opening the camera app to disable the camera shutter sound. Restores volume on exit
Widgets on homescreen to tell my Home PC to play/pause music, next and previous tracks
Function to use my watch to do the above task (Automatically activates when playing music on my PC)
Work van bluetooth workaround - Disconnects and reconnects when the van messes up the connection. Seamlessly works 20+ times a day (This is a lifesaver for me!)
Sync my tablets current battery level to a widget on my phones screen
Widget on my tablets home screen to enable wifi tethering on my phone and auto-connect. Another tap to disable wifi tethering on my phone
Widget on my tablets screen to show signal strength / data availability (4g, 3g, etc.) of my phone
Disables certain physical buttons when a bluetooth controller is connected to avoid the "B" button registering a "Back" command on some poorly made apps / games

Tasker has a steep learning curve but can save you so much time / make your life easier. True that some of these functions are built into some android phones (Quiet hours, location based volume profiles) but tasker syncs seamlessly when you upgrade / change phone.

Like a samples library - I like that idea - why reinvent the wheel!

Anyone considering this might want to check out MacroDroid first - 'same same but different' - I've been using it for a few weeks now and can't recommend it highly enough.

Another great use is to display icons on your Android wear watchface when you have unread messages, missed calls, voice mails etc.

Used to love Tasker, but changing to Automate up'ed what I can do even more with it's simple visuals!

Still heat for Tasker @10p!

a lot of automation which are useful in your daily life can be done by the great (tiny) free app called Llama.

In almost all cases Tasker is overkill. It is really intended for dev types, to make the most of it you should be building apps and using advanced features which require rooted device. For most tasks, including ones listed in this thread, Automate and similar alternatives will do just fine.

This is a good price, so heat, but it'll be a bit like people ordering raspberry pis and then asking what they do realizing it's not worth the effort.
