Check the thread for izettle (which was £23 June, £30 now) for comparison.

I've been using SumUp for a year or so now, it works very well, far better than the Payleven system which it replaced. My only gripe is the card reader can be difficult to use for people with limited mobility, it's very sensitive.
SumUp have now bought out Payleven and integrated them into their own service. Although my account was transferred from Payleven to SumUp it immediately locked by Payleven terminal when I tried to connect it!
You can also now do 'Customer not present' transactions with SumUp.
Used SumUp for a couple of years now. Works very well. Takes about 4 days for me to reveive any money. I haven't got the new reader for contactless but the original is fine.

This is better than the izettle in my honest opinion! The interface is so easy to use on the sum up app and the reader it self I have two and they are both great! You can have employees so that your staff can have it on their phone too. Highly recommend also the standard low rate of 1.95% is better than the confusing 2.75-1% you could potentially get from izettle.

Surely these are a good way of a basic cash withdrawal from credit card are they not? Beat most fees! :joy:

I used to do this all the time when I was in retailing. Get interest free cards then withdraw the cash from your own terminal I managed to rake up 130k interest free in the middle of the property boom bought. A house sold it 2 years later made another 80k on top after paying if interest free credit cards lol it can be done

We have one of these. It works well without subscriptions. Very easy to use and the charges are low at a flat rate of 1.95%. If your card income is inconsistent or uses a lot of credit cards rather than debit cards then this is the best card system. Please note that you can't do payments by phone or link.

Re not doing payments by phone omneity1 above says you can now do 'Customer not present' transactions with SumUp. and the link sumup.co.uk/blo…nts seems to confirm this. Surely that does include payments by phone?

They have your money earning them interest for a week, THAT is how the transaction fee can be so low; the iZettle pays into your bank within 24 hours.
Right now, although the interest WE get paid is near zero, interest on business investments and cards is much higher - 30-50%, so they can make a significant amount when you total up all the funds they have "sitting" for a week.
The danger of this, if too many investments go bad, they quickly run out of cash - and you end up paying the cost.

Have now ordered a Sum Up reader and can confirm Sum Up do provide a virtual terminal on their website for payments by phone.
It doesn't actually use the card reader (obviously) but is only accessible if you have an account - and you need a card reader to have an account.
Charges for virtual terminal are slightly higher than the card reader transactions at 2.95% + £0.25 per transaction.
Don't know whether izettle have this facitity or not but I need both facilities - reader and virtual terminal so Sum Up looks good for me

Unless there are different rates of charges for different types of card readers with these guys. It the charges are 2.95% +€0.25 cents. There's no clear timescale as to how long it takes to be paid. It says A few more days than the usual. The problem is when comes card processing there is no "usual". The SMS payment feature has the potential to cause you a lot headache for the following reasons. It says. Once a transaction has been initiated you cannot process a further transaction until the first one is completed. The SMS link lasts for 30 days! Imagine a transaction is initiated but not completed. You might have wait for SMS link to expire before you can process another payment. Best case it needs clarification and worst case you're screwed (pardon my French).

Any chargeback protection though?.
Square for me offer the best. It is only 1.75% fees as opposed to 1.95 as above (or 2.75 for others) and money is in bank next day.
And if you use a referral code then you get your first £1000 worth of transactions fee free :-)
How do you get the referral code?
