Carmageddon: Max Damage is the latest instalment in the legendary Carmageddon series. Carmageddon is the driving sensation where pedestrians (and cows) equal points, and your opponents are a bunch of crazies in a twisted mix of automotive killing machines. It’s the ultimate antidote to racing games!!
Play an adrenaline pumping bunch of game modes against AI opponents, or online against the rest of the Carmafan masses! Progress your Career through the Carma ranks or have a MultiPlayer romp in a Car Crusher, Fox 'n' Hounds (always been Stainless MP game session favourite!), Death Race or Checkpoint Stampede event - all frenetic fun, featuring Carmageddon’s trademark over-the-top violence, crazy PowerUps and non-stop laughs…
PLUS! You can relive all the mangling mayhem with the built-in Action Replay System. Featuring multiple choice of cameras and replay options – it’ll mean you never miss a pile-up again! Get your movies online and brag about your ped culling achievements. And there will be plenty of THOSE too – Achievements, Challenges and Collectables to hunt down, that’ll keep the whole family entertained for hour upon happy blood and oil splattered hour.
The game features:
Single Player Career mode
Freeplay mode
Online & Offline Multiplayer mode
CarMODgeddon mods mode

Max Pack on its own is £1.99 with 74% off on GOG so this is a steal! But does it have Die Anna?! :relaxed:

I also loved the originals and it's likely the good memories that prompted me to buy this in an earlier sale. I had it on my Steam wishlist for a while, though think it went through an odd patch - released as Early Access, didn't do well, rebranded as Max Damage as a "new game" and this is then what got ported to consoles - I got it on Xbox One but think it is the same game.
I've played the first 8-10 areas and honestly, feel really disappointed by it.
Maybe the early cars are meant to perform like crap, but the handling is just awful. Accelerating feels as if everything is coated in oil (before someone hits the oil slick power up). Steering is all over the place and not in a good way - very twitchy at slow speeds and understeers at higher speeds.
As with the original there are 3 ways to win normal races - first to complete all the laps, smash the other cars, kill all the people/zombies.
The AI is just plain dumb - completely pointless having a lap counter since the AI won't complete the race. They get so far then decide to roam around the map on their own sometimes finding another car to follow or bump without taking out.
Crashing into other cars has no feel of impact and very underwhelming. Head on collision - earn some bonus points and timer extension and that's about it. Am I just imagining the original where it let you split cars in two or crush them from the force of the impact? If not I've yet to find similar in this game.
Chasing down all the pedestrians / zombies is just dull, made more frustrating by the handling of the cars.
You can't go far wrong for the price of a lunch meal deal, but having played it for a few hours, would rather have stuck with the good memories of the originals.

I remember 15 years ago playing the original, taking a break from some heavy studying and being immersed in it for about 4 hours. Suddenly realised I was late for an appointment and quickly got in the car and drove off at speed, clearly my brain was still in the game because I went to mount the pavement to run a woman down, swerved away as reality kicked in. Phew, jeez, I was coated in a cold sweat for some time after that.

Love this game. It's not a sim. It's just fun. Don't understand the hate, but each to their own. Silly price.
