Fantastic deal for a top Ebike.
I have one and love it. Cost me £5000 but went up to £5500 early this year. Now £3749.99 then there is £100 off plus more discount with quidco.
Excellent dealership as well Rutland Cycles.
One of the best looking Ebikes available. Defo puts a smile on your face when you ride one.
At this price there is nothing better.

10% assist and only 30 miles. Run my Bosch on eco and get 50-80 miles.

31855135-hDSeB.jpgI chose the 250watt motor (unrestricted, can do 30mph on flat, with easy pedalling) to stay legal but you can get up to 1000w (off road and can do 50mph). Rode from Manchester to Blackpool with no difficulty

That can be easily done on a road bike without assistance.

E bikes are not for me, but I kind of understand why people have them, having said that other than older folk using them on roads (great stuff) I have only witness a teenager on one at a MTB park and 2 middle aged chaps on a pair at another bike park, who then proceeded to post their "fast" KOM segments on Strava (numpties).

Also, for those use them as MTBs and to assist in climbing, on the descents don't they feel heavy and cumbersome? Surely there is a lot of heft to throw around on the down hills, I would expect a dead feeling. Give me a light weight and simple hard tail any day, besides climbing is a challenge to be enjoyed and a great sense of achievement when the going is tough and rewarded by a nice descent.

Something like this, probably not as much as weight as a proper Down Hill bike.
I really like my KTM144XC motorcycle going down hill - it's certainly not as agile as a mountain bike, but will certainly get down faster and for me more enjoyably than a hard tail.

(Yes, I have had decent spec hardtails.)

I enjoy the descents much more than basic pedalling on a climb.
I'd prefer to get my general exercise pedalling by cycling to the shops for my shopping - and save my energy at a trail centre for fun bits.

Waste of money. If you can't ride a bike properly then pick up a £3k car instead.

Waste of money a £3k car. Have a car worth £200 that gets me to work or anyware else. Its mine and does what it supposed to do, done 179,000 MILES . So I chose to spend my spare cash on a sport I love. Just need a little help to get back to the top. Its a hot deal for those in the market to buy a e mountain bike compared to the price earlier this year.

I love the people in this post. Most of you who shun this deal have profiles full of deals about "steak at aldi", "Battlefield 1 premium pass" and "ice cream". Then you knocking e-bikes?

One of you, go to a cycle centre (if you know what it is, it grades trails for noobs who don't go off track, give you nice easy runs from blue to black), Now, the purpose of e-bikes isn't to get fatties that eat steak and play video games all day on the trails (even though you do have to move with these bikes, another missed point by all the idiots here...). It's to change the day from a leg blaster into a fun casual day. I'd have a much better time out on the trails if I wasn't sweating like a pig after doing the hard climb. Some days, in the mud, I can't even begin to enjoy myself until I've had a rest for 5 minutes at the top before descending. Also, when not on the trails, I live near a beach, the tires on this thing allow me to cover mass distance with top views, try wet sand with your "legs of steel"..... You'll never be seen again.

Now all the idiots saying this isn't exercise, please research HIIT, this is what the bike can really accel at. If you're like me and your legs already can't fit into most trousers, because they're MASSIVE, I don't actually want to train my legs anymore... I'd like to train my heart though, which pedaling the crap out of this thing WILL DO. The torque just lets you take a break if you don't want to rag it uphill.

Also, everyone saying 3.5k is expensive, change career? It's not our fault you can't buy the pretty things in life.. And we aren't showing off getting a 3.5k bike, because most people will shun them and the others will be sat on a 5k bike. Comparing them to golf clubs is also a WTF comment... The quality, ride, and handling will save your bones and equipment to the extent they will pay for themselves 10 fold in the long run. Can't really say that about many clubs...

This website is to locate good deals, not your opinion on the product. It is an amazing discount on the RRP, so shush up little boys and hit the hot button so anyone with a brain can compare this bike to the others out there.

These types of men used to spend thousands on golf club sets to show off to other little men....now they buy expensive bikes and ride around ( in fine weather only) looking ridiculous in lycra.
Is that progress? Personally I would rather keep these little men all trapped in golf courses rather than annoying the rest of us on the roads.

I cycle lots around 100 miles a week if I can, roadie and mt bike, and one of my friends bought a haibike electric, and two old guys I know have just bought a scott and a ktm electric bike, both are 65, they have their place but not for me yet.

plus points are, on eco mode you can get over 100 miles one one charge, in some cases 130 miles, then you have different power settings, makes hills and flats a breeze, or if your into freeride you wont have to wait for a uplift at a mountain bike center, you can also plug in a usb dongle which will de-restrict it, and it will easily do 30mph although your battery will discharge quicker, if your travelling to work every morning getting stuck in traffic and don't want to be hot and sweaty these bikes are superb, you will improve your fitness and they cost pennies to recharge, the bike would then pay for itself in no time..

the only downside is price(although you can get a hardtail for £2k) and they are heavy compared to a normal mountain bike.

I was chatting to a shop owner about ebikes mountain bikes in particular and they haven't taken off in the uk as expected, for me they are too heavy and it's new tech, better off waiting.
plus if you are not fit by 40 you.ll have a difficult second half.

He was saying the commuter bikes are getting the electric engines and are likely to be the sellers, which compared to public transport are competitive

Et tu ollie!

What else did you expect before you entered this thread?

As others have suggested - compared to the price of getting an aftermarket middrive fitted to a lightweight decent spec bike, this seems to be massively worse value and likely providing you a less useful product overall.

And for what it's worth - when riding on 'mountains' going down is the fun bit - electric can get you up the boring bits quicker without getting too close to a full on motorcycle.

(I do have an electric mountain bike and now electric trailer, but never used it for proper off road myself.)

the op, paid 5k and has posted a saving of £1300, yet gets the mick taken by jelous people.

i will never be able to afford the 'specialist' (read title) bike posted personally, but having owned a "cheap" (~£300) electric bike (which was a great help to mobility and very fun to ride) and witnessing the cost saving EVERYWHERE on it (...bar production cost battery and motor), then a premium bike with saving of £1300 deserves heat for intended people IMHO which is obviously not the morons expecting space ships when this represents probably (the op has been informative and helpful) good value RELATIVELY speaking (i.e. vs the crappy bike i owned, which cost ~£300).

if i took my bike on the grass it would get broken and i would have mud everywhere, if the bike featured here, can cope with all terrain etc and can deliver 15mph without breaking the motor etc, then it's a feat of engineering and more then justifies the price point for INTENDED purpose IMHO.

31 Aug 17 #61
Looks like a nice bike.
Put in perspective £3.5k is what you'd lose on a bottom of the range Ford Fiesta when you drove it out the showroom.
If you want a good bike for club riding you are talking £2 - 10k. I marvel at the bikes parked outside the cycle cafe on Sunday - there must be £50k+ of kit (and its usually not locked - so I'm not telling you where it is!).
Really good mountain bikes are similar prices.

If you work hard all week, and you've got the money - buy whatever bike you want!

Bolt on motors to standard Mountain bikes would not last 5 minutes as no protection when riding over rocks and stones.

Good price that. I've enjoyed trying out e-bikes on demo days, and they sure make you grin. I've already had one lot of knee surgery, but came back from that well enough to continue on my regular MTB without too much pain. Another 10 or 20 years though? I think I'll be saving my pennies for an e-bike. Getting out on the trails is so amazingly awesome, to be able to carry on when parts of your body don't seem to work quite as well is great. And let's keep them at 250W max. I don't need to go above 15mph up the hills on an MTB. These are power-assist, not motorbikes.

I'm 64 with a 26 kilo Moustache Mountain e-bike - it's a fab fun machine. My run outs average 20 miles and according to the Apple Watch I'm burning 1000+ calories. It's a great way for older people to get and stay fit, given that you have the power there to get you home if you run out of puff. As to the money aspect, view it as a car substitute, fit it with panniers and do your shopping in it and it will soon pay for itself!

Nice bit of kit, and will become the norm in years to come as cycling (hopefully) keeps popularising. e-bikes are wickedly good for keeping different ages and abilities together on and off road on climbs.

The problem is on the flats - how do you keep a rider at 150w FTP rolling along with a rider with 250w FTP. e-Bikes need to be derestricted to allow some extra power above 15mph to bridge this gap. Think of couples training together for example, men and women.

You don't need all that extra 250w above 15mph, just a bit of it to compliment the leg power.

I am 58 years old and ride some realy techy stuff. I go out with lads 20 years younger than me and also a british champion enduro rider. I either stop in or get some assistance to keep up with them on the up hills. I can do all the drop offs as its got plenty of travel. Dont knock them till you have ridden one. They help people who have given up riding to get out again. Allows older riders to keep riding. Yes im getting fitter as otherwise id be stopping in watching tv.

Whilst not my style of riding but good price - can definitely see the appeal to both yourself and also those that like repeating downhill without the effort of getting back up. Think a good analogy is to ski/snowboard resorts that people do not hike back up themselves and in their summer season have bikers buying passes for those lifts.

i sold my e-bike after few months of owning it. I did enjoy it however the speed is just a bit on the low side. If 17.5mph i think it would have been perfect. I used to do 35 miles on country side whereas on my normal bike 10 miles tops. Also without the help of the motor the bike feels like a truck (22kg) so make sure you don't run out of juice. Now i ride a bike weighing less than 12kg.

I think the e-bike is a great commuter bike however as a pleasure bike i can't justify the price.

This is a good bike for the money same price I paid for a Scott ebike earlier this year. I use them to assist me as I'm 39 years old and about to have my fourth hip replacement. So this enables me to go further than I could go without the assistance and helps me up the hills I started off using turbo mode and now use mainly eco mode to get fitter and to go further afield.

31 Aug 17 #44
You can convert your existing mountain bike for about £750 with a bafang mid drive motor and approx 50 mile range battery from Eclipse bikes. I've done this and it just makes my rides so much more fun. Just remember not to plug in the throttle or to derestrict the speed limit (law says max 15.5 mph assist) and you're all legal.

Maybe they once were, but they're not now in my experience. I had some real issues with them shipping an incomplete and unchecked bike. They made no effort to replace faulty parts with any kind of urgency despite the fact that this ultimately led to the cancellation of our cycling break. I would not trust them with a cycle purchase again, no matter how cheap it looks up front. See if a local supplier can match this price rather than trusting this outfit.

Can't comment on these as mountain bikes but the road versions are great, I cycle to work every day (baring ice) so probably do 45 weeks of the year and in horrid windy wet weather keeps me doing it with a trek road bike for the summer months. Obviously depends on your use case but I am doing over 5000 miles per year just on work travel excluding other trips. I don't own a car and don't want a moped so nothing to compare to cost wise for me.

This is why ebikes will never take off, the stupid 250w motor legal limit.

Unless motors like my bbs02 or bbsHD are legal on the roads then fatties will still take their cars, unless there's an off road way to work.

It depends on how much assist you use. In eco mode at 10% assist I have done over 30 miles. Speed is maxed at 15mph but you can pedal faster under your own effort. Pedal assist finishes at 15mph. You can make them faster but that is against UK law but I have heard 30mph is acheivable either software update or dongle.
