Spotted this and thought it was a great offer if you have an older car and want rid, but don't want to pay for listing or you are unsure of it's worth.
You can get started in 3 easy steps:
1. Enter your reg and the cars mileage
2. Price your car at £1000 or less
3. List your advert for free!
T's & C's: excluding N.Ireland. Only cars valued at £1000 and below can take advantage of the free listing. Full standard T's & C's also apply
Is anyone having a problem that where the search for their vehicle only shows up if you put 20 miles or under? Otherwise the listing won't show making it completely useless advert!!

Lol now it makes sense, donkeys traders who price at £500 to get a free listing then claim missed a zero off should be £5000 you can have it at today's special for 4000.

The auto trader valuation tool provides the value
s4k1b85 to Zameen
14 Aug 17#23
That wont work. The car needs to be VALUED by autotrader at less than 1k.
So a 5k car, even if advertised for 500 will still valued by them at over 1k, so the advert wont be free .

I report those listings. Not only is it timewasting for buyers to sift through, it loses Autotrader money so in theory they should remove them.

Took me 12 weeks to sell my car, which was cheapest on there by hundreds!! They've messed it up with the whole sponsored crap and the leasing market is certainly making an impact on used cars above 4k
super_leeds_86 to 3ak

The PCP market has completely killed resale of reasonably priced second hand cars, people would much rather have a £250-300 PM payment and have a new car that they then hand back after 3/4 years.
3ak to super_leeds_86
14 Aug 17#21
Agreed. Don't blame people for not wanting a used car when they can get a brand new one with warranty and there end of contract cost will come very close to depreciation to a used car over 2 years.

indyjukebox to whelan189
22 Aug 17#56
So 3 years after purchase, when most cars are at 50-55% of RRP, it cost 6k. Then 2 years later it has only lost 1k or 8% value? Even if you haven't driven it and stored it in a shed, what magical car is this?
whelan189 to indyjukebox

Never heard of a car brand called "research", but if it floats your boat........
To be fair, I cannot fathom why a car that has depreciated 7k in 3 years, then only drops 1k in the 2 years following purchase (although you now seem to have corrected it to 1.5 yrs, but still). No amount of research makes that sound possible. So, what is this magical car then? Are you going to tell us or it is actually called "magic"?

I see why they need to do something differently and it's a good deal (as it's free!) but it won't stop idiotic buyers (or people that had no intention to buy) turning up and wasting your time.
I got fed up of this with a prestige car and ended up taking it to a local specialist, yes I get less but I'd rather let the professionals do it. And by professionals, I mean these guys, not 'We Buy Any Car' who offered me 20% less than the people I chose and 35% less than retail...

Thanks for the find! I was about to advertise on ebay (which is full of timewasters), but for free figure it is worth a go. Anyone fancy a Lexus is200??
How do they make money from it? They do push the upgrades to premium listings (which to be fair look decent value), and I guess keeps their position with the place you go to look for cars - wherever the cars are, the buyers have to go.
I'll give it a week or so, and if there is no interest, stick it on an auction and see where it ends up.

My rule on buying a older car is simple - will I find plenty of cheap spares in a scrapyard if the worse come to the worst? Frankly with the Fiesta or Focus its impossible not to!
Yes - Petrol over diesel - WAY too many pitfalls with 2nd hand diesel despite the £30 road tax and 60MPG (on the Fiesta models). Not only can the DPF need replacing on a older diesel car - and for a Fiesta they only last about 75,000 miles before they need recommend replacement at huge cost (about £1000), and you have the real bother and risk to HAVE to blast it down a motorway at speed for 20 mins every 300 miles you clock to clear the DPF. Also, because it's usually turbo diesel (TDCi) there is another component - a 'duel mass flywheel' [DMF] which also costs around £800-£1000 to replace - £400 for the Flywheel and £400 for the Labour to fit it. Although these do not have a set life of 75K miles, and can last far longer, it's something that does fail and needs replacing, depending on driving style like a clutch.
Basically, even for a Fiesta Diesel, which offers sharply lower road tax ( £30pa saving about £115pa) and higher MPG (60mpg saving about £80 per 1000 miles over 30PMPG) it will need many years of ownership savings to break even if the DPF or DMF needs replacement unless you live on the motorway and can get a real saving due to the MPG cost difference. The hassle of having to Blast it every 300 miles or so kills it for me.
Basically I can almost guarantee if I went for a 2nd Hand Fiesta diesel with about 60-70K on it, the DPF would not have been replaced, it would have about another 1-5k in it in mileage terms, and I would be stung in the first year or so for £1000.
The petrol model is lighter and more responsive, and the lack of hassle and worry more than makes up for any perceived savings over the diesel.

In the market for a new car - thinking Ford Fiesta - consistently the 2nd most popular car in the UK for decades. I have a look Within 10 Miles [Liverpool] ----------------------------- Gumtree has 93 Autotrader has 403. ebay.co.uk has 72
Wow - go Autotrader... So you think Autotrader is the place to go for a 2nd hand car? So I then enter the price - upto £2000 for my 2nd hand car. Not exactly scraping the barrel but reasonable older car price.
Gumtree now has 53 cars. Autotrader has just 20...!! ebay has 17.
And in the Autotrader ads of the 20 cars left, I have noticed there are many more far greater as a % 'pitfall cars' than with the other ads - a lot of Cat D/C cars for example (higher insurance, far more difficult to insure)....
Gumtree is by far the best IMO...
