Streets 2, 3D Outrun and Shinobi 3 are the top 3 picks here.

I agree with first two but I'd switch out shinobi for super hang on :sunglasses:

I was fairly decent at computer games back in the day. But super hang on... I think I completed the most basic stage maybe twice/three times. It was nails!! Good, but nails.

Just bought Streets Of Rage 2 and Outrun. Look brilliant and still very playable in 2017.

Are any of these in 3D?

I think the majority are in 3D

It's only because Outrun's the only one that states 3D in the title...

If you go to the e-store you can view the screenshots to see which ones are in 3D and which ones aren't.

All of them have "3D" in the title (as a prefix) - it's just that that part of the title has been excluded from the description to this post.

They're all in 3D as far as I know, they are from the 3D classics line after all, some look much better than others though. Altered Beast for example can't compare to Space harrier for 3D effect. From this list i can wholeheartedly recommend the Fantasy Zone titles, great little horizontal shmups with cool boss battles and branching paths (on 2 at least).

More time and money than sense some people have!
I guess people still play 25 year old games.
As if there aren't enough new games....

"More money than sense" is typically used for products that are expensive; often decadent and/or ostentatious, like a watch with a 5-figure price tag. You're talking about games that are cheaper than a Starbucks.
And yes, for some of us in our thirties (or indeed forties or fifties), 25-year-old games still hold appeal, largely on account of nostalgia. But it's not necessarily a case of one or the other; I can play these games on the move, and play the PS4 when I'm on the couch. If that's ok with you

Ill add this for those not aware what Sega have done here with these Classic 3D games on 3DS simply put they are NOT emulation but each and every one is written from the ground up for the 3DS hardware and all of them run at 60 fps either in 2D or 3D and are the best versions of each game that have ever been officially released, so easily beating the often times shoddy VC releases from Nintendo and costing less to boot.

I don't think that's a 100% true. They are running on an emulator, it's just that the emulator has been enhanced to support 3D. For some titles, they have also hacked the original roms to add new features. But they aren't rewrites, so the new features are limited.
It was the mobile Sonic games that Sega re-wrote (which is why they were able to add things like new levels and characters). Baffling for the Mega Drive Sonic games on 3Ds, they switched back to emulation.

O dear why dont you ACTUALLY look into it before commenting, as Sega provided behind the scenes info about each and every game in this series on there site and the mandate for the team involved was that EVERY game to run at 60fps and written/coded from the ground up for the 3DS hardware, on top of that many an article over on Nintendolife covering such info.
If you read it, they say they created a 3D Mega Drive emulator called GigaDrive. True, it has has been enhanced with 3D support, but it is still emulation. It wasn't re-written from scratch (like it was for the mobile versions of Sonic). That's why for the 3DS version they couldn't do things like add Tails, Knuckles or Hidden Palace, because the 3DS version is still using emulated code.
The mobile versions were written from scratch, which is why they could have extras like Tails, Knuckles and Hidden Palace
