I picked this tablet up at £379 last Christmas (Yes, the 64GB model). At the time, it was a decent deal. The same price today is hilariously overpriced, and £404 is even worse. Given the tech that resides in the 2017 32GB iPad, this tablet is beaten in every way. Eight months have gone by since I bought this for £379. £300 is where this tablet should be priced right now.

Alot of people here probably need to realise that to know what a device is like you have to own and use it. The pixel C is unmatched in the Android market and offers better value than the Ipad Pro. The SoC in the Pixel C is a super efficent powerhouse, its the same chip used in Game consoles such as the Switch and both generations of the Nvidia's Shield TV. The Tegra X1 scores twice as high over the A8X ( Ipad Air 2 ) in GLBench. The screen on the Devices are very simlar, both higher than 2560x1440 but not 4K, From use the IPS display on the Pixel is very good and I rarely exceed 30% brightness as mostly indoors. Build Quality and Design, Is the best on the Pixel C on all the devices I have owned, It's very well finished, great machining and the lightbar is worth the price alone. It's a premium tablet. Software is of course always up to date, and in the the over the year I have owned it I have never experinced slow down, which I have done on newer devices such as the Lenovo Yoga Book. The price is a good deal, being that its the 64GB all previous prices mentioned were of the now discontinued 32GB model. Battery Life is excpetional due to how efficent the SoC operates and features such as Doze. For note I have owned: Pixel C, Nexus 9, Nexus 7, Lenovo yoga Book, Fire HD and iPad Mini.

LOL. What a waste of money to play Angry Birds etc.
This tablet doesn't do anything, a £200 Android Tablet doesn't do.
I'd rather spend £340 and buy one of these if I wanted a tablet type device with keyboard. At least you have the entire Windows ecosytem of software apps to use.
Get your £200 tablet, would reccommend a Nvidia shield, but thats getting on a bit now. You get what you pay for thats why it is advertised as premium tablet, my tablet use is mostly content consumption and Android does this superbly. Pointless trying to use a tablet for productivty, use a laptop or in my case Desktop. Also in real world use what more would you do on that device you could not on an Android Tablet. If all your doing is using word processors you can do this the same on ipads, android or windows tablets, Yes you can install Fully featured programs but hardly usable.
Evilmonkey to Gowlande
8 Aug 17#42
I did wonder if I was missing something. All this talk of 'productivity' on iOS made me thing I was missing something. Having an iPad air 2 from work and android tablets at home, I can't really see the difference in terms of actually using it for active work. Like Gowlande has suggested, using Google docs or Office is possible on either, but a pain in the neck compared to a dedicated laptop or desktop.
I'm after an android tablet (too invested in apps on this ecosystem) which is stable (current tablet was a bit of a dud, an asus which reboots fairly often and the apps close without notice), has a decentish screen, decent battery life, and a reasonable amount of storage space. Much as I covet this (and the keyboard, just for the look of it...) I'm feeling that the pixel would be overkill for my needs...
Any other suggestions for an android tablet?
CoeK to Evilmonkey

I use an older Sony tablet, I think it is a Z2, my other half likes it because it is waterproof and she can watch shows in the bath or Jacuzzi. It is pretty old now, no idea what version of android it is on but I don't really care since I use a launcher it always looks the same to me. Still runs brilliant though.
For work I use a normal PC or if I'm going mobile which isn't often a surface pro 4. No mobile OS is good enough to use for any real work when it comes to office, unless you only write in word all day.
EndemicAlarm to Evilmonkey

Chromebook? Some of them flip back and forth between a tablet and laptop, and many have the Play Store now. They're pretty expensive in this country tbh, but sometimes some decent deals, and if you don't mind going second-hand the prices are very low. I guess because people buy them without realising their unsuitability.
The comparisons so far seem a bit silly to me. Apple is a walled garden, you're likely either in their ecosystem and forced to choose from a handful of devices or it's not very relevant to you. Surfaces are very expensive and incomparable on that alone, but it's basically a full desktop. Androids have the most flexibility and apps but expect to find them rough around the edges.
Or you could look at it another way, you have three quite distinct choices depending on what you want.
Evilmonkey to EndemicAlarm

I've been toying with the idea of a chromebook, as as well as using a lot of apple kit at work we also use G-suite. The thing that's stopped me has been the price. To get a half decent one for work use costs a little too much when I'm not certain it would get the use.

Android was never originally designed as a tablet OS, even less as a productivity OS. Even now, numerous apps don't scale particularly well and you'd be mad to use Android as a office productivity app when Windows is superior in that regard in terms of software. For phones though, it's fine.

If you are into android this is rated the best tablet by most of the reviews I've seen. If you are into Apple get an iPad. If you just want a cheaper tablet get one. This is a premium product with premium performance, mine is about 2 years old and still gets a full day from a charge and is a pleasure to use.
Work out what you need, decide what you like OS wise, work out your budget and if this is still on the shortlist then go for it.

They really aren't though plus most people in Education use Google Docs and classroom. And as expected your giving examples of things your windows tablet would not do either, no one in there right mind tries to do video editing on a tablet, you need gpu accelartion to get reasonable timeline performance and export. If all your doing is trimming then more than capable. And again with Windows Games, you can't run anything demanding and the experince for you will be terrible! That's why mobile games exist, as there light weight and are playable on a Tablet.

Like others, I got mine for £300 last March and have been very happy with my purchase. I've since purchased the keyboard and am very impressed with that too. That means I have the tablet and the keyboard for less than the current price of this 'deal' including about 18 months of usage on top. It's a quality purchase, no doubt, but this price is not good IMO.

steve_bezerker to CouldntThinkOfAUsername
8 Aug 17#50
The iPad does not have a better screen. The screen is bigger but the pixel density is far higher on this than an iPad giving you a much clearer image here than the iPad can ever dream of.
In fact almost everything goes in favour of the Pixel tablet when compared with the iPad Pro, except the Quad speakers that the Pro offers, although on devices this small I doubt that the quantity of speakers is enough to sway people.
Biggunspaul to steve_bezerker
8 Aug 17#54
Please explain what else is better about the pixel over the ipad pro ?
As I can't see anything apart from the ppi.
This only has 3gb of ram vs 4gb on the pro
benchmarks show that the ipad pro is the fastest tablet around, where as the pixel is way down the list.
This has a max storage capacity of 64gb,ipad pro has 512gb.
500 nits brightness on the pixel?600 on the pro
Pixels camera 8mp 1080p,pro 12mp and 4k video
No camera flash on pixel, camera flash on pro
Pixel cpu 1.9ghz,pro 2.39ghz
Pixel battery is 34.2wh,pro battery is 41wh
I could go on but there is no point.
Yes this does seem a good bang for your buck, but to say nearly everything goes in favour of the pixel is just wrong.
steve_bezerker to Biggunspaul
8 Aug 17#62
Where are you getting your information?
The Ipad Pro doesn't shoot 4K. The CPU is 2.2ghz DUAL CORE and the Pixel is 1.9ghz Quad Core, making the Pixel faster at anything using more than a single thread. The internal storage is capped at 256GB not 512GB as you suggest. I'm not sure why this is important tbh, I have a PC to hold all my films and songs and can transfer within seconds at the push of a button, paying for extra memory on a tablet is a redundant feature for most. Battery is about 30 minutes extra talk time at most. Powered by Android so downloading APKs and modding files is un-restricted and permitted. This gives you unlimited freedom with regards to programs like Kodi which are otherwise impossible to break with an iPad without Jailbreaking.
So in terms of price vs performance the Pixel is absolutely destroying the iPad in almost all fields, considering that both sets of cameras are identical, battery time is almost identical, CPU is almost identical, if not better on the Pixel - That means you're paying well over £500 for a tiny bit of extra memory and a slightly larger screen size (with a worse pixel density) and 1GB of RAM..
Biggunspaul to steve_bezerker
8 Aug 17#66
I'm getting this information straight off my iPad Pro,so i know it can shoot 4K video (the camera is taken straight from the iPhone 7),i know the processor runs 2.39ghz,i know it comes in 512gb.
Don't believe me,well have a read of this and then come back and apologise

This one costs £100 less than the Pixel. Less memory (but accepts sd cards), slightly lower resolution but otherwise not much in it. argos.co.uk/pro…047 There should be a 64MB version out later and there is an optional keyboard attachment.

Lenovo tab 4 10 plus is also up for pre-order on Amazon here in white: at £349.99 -
From Amazon you can get it with 4Gb ram. I read a comment that this will also be the 64 GB flash version. But there is no mention of the amount of flash on the Amazon description so far. So can't confirm that.

I only use my android tablet for casting but I could use my android phone for that if needs be. Whereas my iPad is used constantly, apps are far more optimised and it's just a better experience in general.
I've always stuck to having an iPhone, an android phone and an iPad. I think that setup gives you the best of both worlds really. I only buy the normal iPads not the Pros as I think once it tips towards £500 you should be looking at a windows/surface type device.

This tablet doesn't do anything, a £200 Android Tablet doesn't do.
I'd rather spend £340 and buy one of these if I wanted a tablet type device with keyboard. At least you have the entire Windows ecosytem of software apps to use.

Also in real world use what more would you do on that device you could not on an Android Tablet. If all your doing is using word processors you can do this the same on ipads, android or windows tablets, Yes you can install Fully featured programs but hardly usable.
It is pretty old now, no idea what version of android it is on but I don't really care since I use a launcher it always looks the same to me. Still runs brilliant though.
For work I use a normal PC or if I'm going mobile which isn't often a surface pro 4. No mobile OS is good enough to use for any real work when it comes to office, unless you only write in word all day.
The joy of sitting on the fence...
I paid more than 4 times this amount for my surface pro 5 not they are not comparable products.
And for it's "not meant to a computer"? Just LOL. It has a screen, keyboard, CPU, RAM, storage, ports, OS, software etc. What's it meant to be? A banana?
Now crawl back under your stone.
You have no idea what you're doing or what constitutes a good deal or value.
Irony.
You don't seem to understand what irony means...
Selling an SP4 and buying a SP for £1600 when the only real difference is a KL refresh is just plain daft.
You clearly are a clown, I told you I bought it as a "company asset" you obviously don't have the intelligence to understand what I'm saying so will not discuss this further.
Have a nice day, schools are back soon so go out and play.
You will also understand why I did not sell my old SP4
Pretty much stopped using Apple devices at home.
My brother has an iPad Air 2 and that's a much smoother experience, granted it's a newer device.
Work out what you need, decide what you like OS wise, work out your budget and if this is still on the shortlist then go for it.
And again with Windows Games, you can't run anything demanding and the experince for you will be terrible! That's why mobile games exist, as there light weight and are playable on a Tablet.
Pixel lacks the apps and smoothness of the iPad. iPad has better speakers and screen too.
In fact almost everything goes in favour of the Pixel tablet when compared with the iPad Pro, except the Quad speakers that the Pro offers, although on devices this small I doubt that the quantity of speakers is enough to sway people.
Don't believe me,well have a read of this and then come back and apologise

And this confirms the 2.39GHz

I've also included these screen shots off my ipad, just in case what is written isn't good enough.
All you did was strengthen my argument, because now you're spending silly money and still getting sub-par tech.
This one costs £100 less than the Pixel. Less memory (but accepts sd cards), slightly lower resolution but otherwise not much in it.

There should be a 64MB version out later and there is an optional keyboard attachment.
Lenovo tab 4 10 plus pre order
From Amazon you can get it with 4Gb ram. I read a comment that this will also be the 64 GB flash version. But there is no mention of the amount of flash on the Amazon description so far. So can't confirm that.
Even with this version I'm still torn between this and the Pixel C here...... Pixel has a much better screen, so might still be worth the extra and you probably won't get much in the way of updates from Lenovo anyway.....
You might as well buy a Surface Pro 2-in-1 type of device for that sort of money.
The 64gb version was £360 last year with the discount however.
Also Google give their devices 3 years life span, this came out in 2015, its due soon for end of support so this is too expensive.
I've always stuck to having an iPhone, an android phone and an iPad. I think that setup gives you the best of both worlds really. I only buy the normal iPads not the Pros as I think once it tips towards £500 you should be looking at a windows/surface type device.
high spec, high price, do not discount and welcome 100 billion dollars
How old is this thing? two or three years?
Besides this has better resolution.
Also for new or old owners, the keyboard is discounted: store.google.com/pro…ard
