Newer version of the previous 55" ambilight tv that was quite popular on here.
Currently £100 off the usual £749 price tag, and with the code "TVSAVE", it takes it down to £584.10

Got the 49PUS Phillips for £410 a couple of months back from Argos
Excellent TV for the money, HDR isn't bad, but obviously won't match higher end sets
Ambilight is especially cool, and allows you to sync up lights if you have Phillips smart home systems

Almost all philips model names start with PUS and 49 is just the size, it's the numbers after that which are the specific model. At that price it was likely the 6401 which was popular on HUKD.
This is a brand new model that's just become available, the 50" variant is still marked as coming soon.
EDIT: This model doesn't have android, the new 64_2 model with it doesn't seem to be out yet.

Do you mean this only has ambilight functionality not an actual light built in or that you can tag extra lights around your room onto the same loop?

It's built in both sides at the back, they all do or the most expensive have a third along the length at the top too. It is better on a flat wall than a corner though in my experience, you can tag more Ambilight colour bulbs in to the TV Ambilight settings for much more va va vrooooooom, I only use it for movies personally but you can have it on all the time, but the lounge becomes a den with curtains closed most the time lol, sometimes during the day I put the blinds down except the last 7" of the windows as the bottom of my windows in the lounge are only 3 foot off the ground so I get some daylight and a good Ambilight experience during the day.
Live/recorded indoor or nighttime concerts are fantastic on Ambilight esp shows with fantastic lighting and quick change camera angles, kids would love a Ambilight in the bedroom to watch and dance along, just don't give it to serious stationarygamers who will probably only temporarily surface to eat and pee, it will become Narnia to them hahaha

Update the TV, there have been loads of OS updates for the UK since loads of Argos buyers (prob HUKDers  ) bought these cheap babies, the first update I got was crap, but the recent two updates have been especially a really smooth responsive Android TV OS, my TV remote has gone from slow and patchy to flawless like most the OS. Also get Ambilight colour bulbs.
Like borntooslow I agree...The Ambilight feature is amazing, no need for a light on in the lounge, a very immersive experience, and the screen may not be top of the range but when the eyes are immersed by the walls not just a screen it really isn't noticeable as your eyes and brain isn't 'wholly focused' on a just screen but the whole experience.
My Philips 43" AmbiTV replaced a Philips 42" plasma and the quality of both has been amazing, my previous (still going strong) was a 2007 JVC HD LCD.
In my my opinion this updated 55" is hot to trot!

This is lower spec compared to the earlier one from argos, that had android tv, 4x hdmi and 3x USB this one does not
Hope a further update removes that horrible Android loading logo from my TV
A comprehensive Philips info page from June says only 6400 models upwards get Android TV ? Other web sources external to Philips say this model is Android (like their own website) flatpanelshd.com/art…602 confused ? Me too!!
On a plus Android TV 7.0 is on 2017 models so can't be long for us 2016 models getting the upgrade, Android 8.0 just launched but no word from Philips on that upgrade.

What are the main differences between this and the older pus6401 model? Is it worth the extra £120 pounds or is it worth it to wait for the older model to make a return with a bargain like last time?

I took the plunge and got it. Picture is significantly better than my 4 year old Panasonic (which is probably expected). It's super sunny at the mo so can't comment on the ambilight till tonight. Not sure Ben and Holly would do it justice anyway. So far I'm quite chuffed with my purchase

Lol get a Ambilight TV on 0% with the Argos card, that's what I did  (I paid half off the first month statement and £10 a month since, 3 more payments to go) bobs yer uncle, Ambilights yer auntie
Best TV experience, immersive, you can't get a TV like it anywhere else no matter how good the screen specs are

So is it running android or not?

Philips site suggests not. Models 6400 and above run Android.

It's not, but that's no big deal for me as I've got Fire TV. Not that I'd ever condone wanting to install wretched apps like Kodi.... Maybe...

Anyone have any idea about the input lag on this? Can't seem to find any information regarding this...
