Good tool - buy this is just the normal price that Lidl charges every time this is available - so why is it a hot deal?

Because it's rarely available.

Bought 1 last year and it shat itself whilst I was boring a 110mm core through a cavity wall. I contacted the warranty line, they told me to send it to Germany with a prepaid address they emailed me and I had a brand new drill after a fortnight.

If there's one thing I've learned about DIY tools - never has the adage "buy cheap, buy twice" been so apt.
Save yourself the bother, and spend a bit more on a reliable brand. Trust me, in this case it's worth it.

not always! I bought an Argos Challenge Jigsaw 8 years ago and just used it to cut holes in my kitchen work top for the hob and sink. 2 months before that I was using it for cutting in the more precise cuts in a large lamite flooring job. I'd say it gets used once a year on average but its still going strong. :-)

Any recommendations? I'm an occasional DIYer, but our (newly purchased) old house has some tough walls my cordless drill struggles with. I need one this weekend, so was thinking of just plumping for this from Screwfix. How important is wattage, I'm assuming more (power!) is better? screwfix.com/p/t…533

the titan sds+ is better plus has a clutch if you're drilling holes for extractor fans also 8J instead of 5J

Thanks, I went for the Titan from Screwfix. Great drill and it made easy work of the brick walls. The manual says not suitable for core drilling, so possibly not good for extractor fans? "Can drive 32mm diameter holes through masonry or 40mm holes through wood".

Bought one last time round and shaft/chuck buckled at first sign of heavy use.

I have one. I've used it on a very hard wall (which a number of more expensive/top branded drills failed to drill though) and it worked perfectly. Work was completed in a few minutes. Well worth the money if you ask me.
