So seems like my kind of game, but so much negativity puts me off. Pretty much every game I get these days I don't play more than an hour before boredom or irritation sets in so quite wary now.

I was bought this as a present a few months back and started playing it last week as the negative reviews had put me off starting it in favour of other games I had. As others have said it's no mass effect 1 or 2, the characters and story don't draw you in like the previous games but it's still enjoyable and I would be happy paying this amount for it.
completely agree with iomax on reading the text and skipping the dialogue, else you can spend hours gassing to people every time you dock the ship or land on a planet, a lot of which is fluff and adds little value to the game.
in any case irrespective of opinions of the game itself, the OP deserves heat for finding it at the cheapest price currently.

So nothing from the original trilogy is referenced? I only want to play this first as I want to experience the series "go out" on a high as opposed to disappointing mediocrity.

There are so many good games to play, you should just pretend this doesnt exist and play ME2 & 3 such brilliant games. When they are done you can then play other good games. Whats the point of playing a mediocre game when you can spend less playing brilliant games?

The mission to Andromeda set off part way through the original ME storylines, Shepherd et al are mentioned in passing but they left our galaxy before the Reapers and Collectors.

Bugger. Paid twenty quid for this from Origin during their last supposed sale. I guess the news of no more patches made them decide to drop the price even further. Oh well.

Will I have anything spoilt if I play through this before the original trilogy properly? I played ME1 to completion and loved that but I would rather save the best for last.

If you want to "save the best for last", you'll want to save Mass Effect 2 for last...

This wasn't as good as ME1. Play ME2 and ME3, enjoy them and the epic story, then play this just to see how they managed to balls it up.

Nothing of the original trilogy was spoilt from what I remember. There's a few references to characters from the original trilogy but not much.
I would finish playing the original trilogy first as the characters are better but the combat not as good. Andromeda has the best combat of the lot but the plot and your squad mates are largely forgettable. I still enjoyed it though but I usually just read the text and speed through the conversations.

Just to confirm. The code is for your origin account ( I know the game not on steam ) and not some 'game' account?

Yes it's the only platform available for PC.

It's worth that price. I'm enjoying playing it. It's not even close to how good ME:2 was, particularly for story and progression, but it's not bad in any real way.

Agree people just jumped on the hating bandwagon and people pre-order stuff at a high price and then play before the usual first few patches are out - but anyway this is a deals site so go elsewhere for reviews - it's well worth this price with a lot of hours of gaming,

It's a separate storyline.
It's dead. No more DLCs, story missions or bug fixes.
Watch this b4 purchase.
In short. This was just a money grab by EA. They hired bunch of PC SJW's to make this contributing to lot of it's problems
