I've tried a couple of range extenders over the past couple of years (one Netgear though not this model) and have always been disappointed with them. In the end I followed a friend's advice to create a wireless access point by plugging in a powerline adapter upstairs and attached an old router to it (purchased for a fiver on eBay because I'd already disposed of my old Sky router :unamused: ). The how-to of setting up the spare router to act as an access point (change IP address, disable DHCP) is widely available on Google and very simple to do. Result? Lovely strong wi-fi signal upstairs in the room farthest from the router.

Hopefully this will work but if it doesnt I'll definitely try this, heard a lot of mixed reviews about range extenders too. I've actually got the stuff to do it lying about for the project you suggested, hmmmmm now whether to cancel my amazon order or not... :thinking:

You can also buy powerline adapters that are wifi hot spots, so a really tidy solution. Much better than these wifi extenders. I use Solwise powerline adapters. Voted cold

I toyed with the idea of getting one of these but in the end I just bought a decent router. I have 75mbps fibre with modem and router in the living room. I have a 4 bed detached house and was getting under 1mbps in the bedroom farthest away from the living room using the naffy ISP supplied zyxel router. Buying a nighthawk r7000 gives me about 45/50mbps. Huge improvement.

I've been using one of these extenders for a longtime now and they seem to do an alright job but like a lot of other comments I believe I will move to powerline adaptors as they seem to be a better solution in getting wifi to hard to reach areas.
