Does anyone actually have an issue with reaching inside with the door sticking out or is it just me that thinks slide and hide is trying to fix an issue that doesn't exist?

You will never appreciate how good it is until you have it.

I'm sceptical too, standing the door's height away from the oven is normally as close as I can cope with the heat of the oven too, plus my arms reach plenty far enough. Would like genuine input from owners on how/why and which situations in particular it helps with.

I have a slide and hide and have done for about 6 months when we renovated our full house . To be honest, I myself don't see the big fuss about it APART FROM them being good for narrow kitchens where hiding the door would allow people to go past. My oven isn't in such a position so in hindsight, a normal opening door would have been fine too

My disabled mom does, she has the higher spec model and it's worth every penny for her to be able to use an oven safely - also quality oven as well

I was going to ask the same thing. All it does is makes the oven smaller. About as useful as that other great fashion victim of the kitchen: the Belfast sink.

Well that’s not all it does  it also gets the door out of the way in exchange for the loss of internal space.
Useful for those with narrow kitchens. Also useful if the oven is higher up rather then under counter. Makes it much easier getting a heavy casserole dish/roast/etc in and out.
We haven’t got one as at the timethe AEG options were better aesthetically, particularly the combi microwave. But could certainly see the merits.
In terms of features on “premium” ovens I’d rate it third behind Pyrolitic cleaning and Samsung’s ability to split the oven for two separate temp cooking zones.

Yes, I've got a Samsung split oven. Its only problem is the amount of condensation you get in the half you're not using.

I thought you only put the separator in when you needed the split zones? The rest of the time you could use as a single oven?
It is a great feature. Even with a combi, during Xmas/etc it’s a pain juggling things. And I always wonder wether I should have got the Samsung. It was the ugly combi that forced me to AEG. At the time only they had a great matching option without physical buttons/stainless steel/etc. Mrs also wishes she had the slide and hide when trying to get a big casserole/roast out

Well yes, but 99% of the time, we only use half the oven - it's quite big enough for most dishes, and compared with using the whole oven saves energy, and once warmed up, consumes less power so is often able to be run entirely on our panels. But the unused half of the cavity does develop a lot of condensation.

Ah, guess that’s another plus point of that feature, presume it heats up a lot faster aswell. (Aside from the condensation).

The two fans have elements sized for each half of the cavity, but it turns on the other elements for a while in order to make it heat up quickly. A single cavity oven would be able to do this as well.

The main point is to move the door out of the way so no one trips over it when the over is under the counter. And when the oven is built in higher up, it make its safe and easier to reach in without burning yourself on a hot door that would have been sticking out. Also better for disabled people.

I find it difficult to reach to the back of the oven when cleaning it as the door is in the way, aside from that though I don't think I'd use it when cooking as I'm not much of a cook and it would take longer to open it and slide it under than to flip it open and grab the oven chips out ;).

Yes, my mother is small and elderly so having this makes it very easy to reach in and get out very easily, particularly when mounted worktop high.

If you don't see a benefit, you don't buy one - fairly simple really.
Even Neff do ovens both with and without. We've got one of each, so appreciate the benefit most days. It's the second best feature of the oven, behind pyrolytic cleaning.

Just because I don't see a benefit doesn't mean they don't exist. Jeez. People seem afraid to discuss things these days, prefer to form their own opinion and just harangue others when their opinion differs. Try having a discussion sometime, you might learn something if you can open your ears for once.

I have one and is completely pointless, it came with the house when we brought it and I personally wouldn't waste my own money on another.
