So after i missed out on the GTX1060 6gb Medion laptop from Argos a few weeks back i thought i would take a look around for a gtx1070 spec laptop and see what the cheapest was. This seems to be the best i can find atm and seriously considering purchasing

Any prices like this for a gtx 1070 17.3" around?
This deal seems to have expired :disappointed:

No. After configuring the games that I run on the laptop temps can go upto 75 degrees maximum so far on gpu and/or cpu. I have not seen any throttling or temp issues as yet. I also disable anti-aliasing on games as this seems to run the gpu at near enough maximum clock which I am not comfortable with for any lengthy gaming sessions.

For the price and spec, there is nothing better, but mine was a bit of a dud unfortunately.
First impressions, it looks decent. Not blow your socks off spectacular build quality, but pretty reasonable. No complaints and better than expected for the price. The rubber wrap on it feels great to touch. The lighting isn't too garish. The keyboard feels really nice, and this is coming from someone who generally really isn't a fan of chiclet keyboards. Boot up times on the SSD are rapid.
Then the negatives started to appear. First, the speakers are incredibly weak at maximum volume for a 17" laptop. Shame and I expect more from Onkyo. I then played a game (Rocket League). Rocket League isn't particularly taxing, especially for the spec in this machine, but the keyboard started to get incredibly hot. Especially in the middle. The fans also got incredibly loud after only about 5mins. I've been a 17" gaming laptop user for over 6 years now, so I don't expect silence, but this was louder than I'm used to.
Due to concerns about heat, I downloaded HWinfo to monitor the machine and see if there were any issues. After one 2 lap race on Forza 6 Apex the CPU was throttling and hitting temperatures of 97 degrees centigrade!! Keep in mind that over time temperatures tend to rise, yet fresh out of the box, this machine is already throttling and in critical temperature levels. Way outside the acceptable range with heat levels that put multiple internal components at risk of failure over time. To be fair, the GPU faired a bit better. It never went higher than 80 degrees. Still on the hot side, but certainly tolerable.
Long story short, the laptop is being returned.
Honestly, I think the machine has potential. If it wasn't for the heat issues I'd have been very happy overall. On that basis, if you remain interested, I'd say it's worth a shot and perhaps you might be luckier than me. I probably just received a dud as I don't imagine those can be the same temperatures for everyone. Just not for me on this occasion. A shame really as it was and is a bargain.
By the way, I can confirm this is a Clevo P670. If you search for that you'll get various impressions, for example, on the Sager equivalent sold in the USA, which is also the same Clevo model.

I would definitely recommend this gaming laptop. Excellent overall performance plus very little bloatware pre-installed. I've replaced the 1TB 2.5 second HDD with a Samsung EVO SSD and this was straightforward to install. There's also space for a second m.2 and 7" SSD plus 2 free ram slots. Overall a fantastic laptop.

Cooling seems fine so far. Temps idle around 40 degrees for both cpu and gpu and usually max at around high 70s (vsync on). I've purchased a laptop cooler to help with airflow into the laptop and this has also helped. It's certainly been an excellent performer so far.

The world’s eight richest billionaires control the same wealth between them as the poorest half of the globe’s population, some people can just drop over a grand on a F$$$$$g laptop while half the world starves.

Come on, are you really comparing someone buying this laptop to the worlds 8 richest people? Let's be honest, most items on HUK are consumerism at its finest.
Anyway, thanks to the original poster. Absolute bargain for this spec. I've been looking for a laptop with a 1070 for a while so jumped at this.
Worth noting, Quidco are giving you a further 5% cash back from Argos on all laptops but it expires in about 6 hours. Great buy, assuming the laptop ends up being decently built

"1TB and 256GB HDD and SSD storage" would suggest it comes with both

Is this based on a Clevo? If so, which one?
Also, this comes only with a 256gb ssd and no HDD, right? Does anyone know how many HDD and msata bays this has? Thanks
First impressions are excellent. Build quality is very good although I must admit it's not as good as the MSI GT73VR which I had owned for a few days previously - however that was over £2k. I've set v-sync on all the games that I have tried so far with excellent results. Hellblade, Rime, Project Cars and FIFA17 all run smoothly and with no stutter etc. I've undervolted the cpu by -0.100 which seems to have lowered temps somewhat which is good as I've seen the cpu go upto 80 degrees after around 30 mins of gaming in Rime with settings maxed out (TXAA). I purchased this due to it being the lowest price that I've seen so far and it certainly represents excellent value for money considering the specs. I'm still configuring it this weekend so let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know.

Is the backlighting on the keyboard changable? Or is it constantly a rainbow?
It's so difficult to find proper reviews in English. Otherwise I'd buy it!

Apparently if you are getting Frame Rates above the refresh rate of your display, G-sync can actually cause distortion and you should you use Fast Sync instead. Gsync won't help with most of your games with a 1070 driving a 1080p display as it will normally be in excess of the refresh rate even with ultra settings

Medion used to be a rebanding, upper budget brand (mostly MSI stuff). But the last few years they've really been nailing it. The quality of these is great, and I've also had good service from them (supplied me with drivers for a 12 year old laptop!).
The only issue with Medion, is getting spare parts (fans etc.). I've also had this issue with ASUS and Acer, so they're not alone. Dell seem to be the only company you can easily get laptop parts from reliably.

Now they rebadge Clevo/Sager notebooks. Clevos are the base unit for most of the bespoke gaming laptop providers. Much as Medion may be owned by Lenovo, these gaming machines have nothing to with Lenovo. Good, albeit a little chunky, gaming laptops.

It's not just a laptop...people spend this on a mac book pro with worse specs everyday.
But no people don't buy laptops at this price manufacturers just like to build stuff up for it to lose them money sat on a shelf.
Why do people spend 50k on a car when a 5k car will get you from A to B too?

These are Clevo rebranded laptops. Parts not hard to find. Go to notebookreview.com forum and find Clevo section. Lots of guides and modified bios with unlocked options available.

I type this on a Medion as we speak. Terrific laptop, bought 5 years ago for £700 would have cost me £2,000 for the Alienware equivalent.
Doesn't maybe look as sexy and weighs significantly more (8kgs with the charger). But it's the best laptop I've ever had and would buy another in a heartbeat. Their only undoing is I don't have to because it's still a high spec!

Build quality on these is very good. It has very good cooling too with triple fans. It also has G-Sync which is not mentioned on the Argos site. A very nice machine....

The specs look good, but I can't comment on the build quality as have never used or owned a medion. Worth a punt if you want a powerful laptop and it's in your budget. Use Argos buy now pay 12 months later as well.
