Hi
Great price for this phone, the 32Gb version was £210 from Three up until recently, this is the 64Gb variant. Dual SIM, 5.5 inch Amoled screen, good single speaker, Micro SD card expansion, snappy performance and 10-12 hours screen on time per charge in my experience.

Usual caveats apply when buying from Asia (warranty, bands, potential tax charge etc), but I thought I'd post it in case it's of use to anyone.

Gold and grey are both available at time of posting (75 and 51 respectively).
Possible 1% ish cashback with TCB or Quidco, but applying an additional discount code (like the 8% TWITTER one) seems to raise the price.
Hope this is of use

Edit - now showing as £168.20

Do any of you in here use Flamingo for Twitter? If so, does it get quite laggy for you as the timeline loads up? It's the only app I use on this phone that does that, and the developer of the app says he's never really heard of that issue happening to other folks. I'm wondering if it's this phone in particular that causes it.

No problem and they won't email you the tracking is just shown on your order info and you can click on it for the tracking details.

I wish I was enjoying it but it's not for me but for my Son's birthday. However if I like the look of it I may well get one to replace my Note 4 as I don't fancy paying outrageous prices for a Note 8 when they come out.

Thanks for the response. That's not bad at all really. I paid for the faster postage and I've used the "dispatch faster" button and its now marked as dispatched but no email with tracking or anything just yet. I imagine they'll me when they know what the story is.

Thanks again  hope you enjoy your P2.

I ordered Saturday 5th, it left Gearbest on Tuesday 8th, it sat for a couple of days in HK postal service and went on the plane Friday night, landed in the UK 5am Saturday morning and was at my doorstep at 10.30 this morning. I was very happy with that.

If you look in your orders there should be a button that says dispatch faster, I clicked that. I also paid for the better postage which was £3 something and paid for insurance too which i'm sure helped get it to me much faster than the 10-15 business days they quote for the free delivery.

Mine turned up by courier this morning and I am over the moon it got here so quickly. I think the small extra charge for shipping and insurance was well worth it as I was able to track it all the way from leaving Gearbest to being put on the plane at HK airport to landing in UK and then getting through the postal system here. It landed Saturday morning so was worried it would be stuck going through customs for ages but it was processed as soon as it landed and straight into the post to get it this morning. Very very impressed and will happily order from them again now.

Also the communication with Gearbest was very good as I contacted them asking if they could process my order quickly and also fix the tracking as it disappeared over the weekend and they got back to me each time the same day. I am the last one to recommend from buying abroad but this has been a very positive experience for me.

I'm just about to go for this, does anyone know if standard shipping (british express) is likely to incur duty?

Also if you use code LNP2 it knocks £3 off which almost covers shipping insurance

Yeah I'm still torn - mainly because the camera on the 5 is meant to be a huge improvement on the 3 and 4, which I felt was the one thing that really let them down. I can't use my 3 anymore anyway, because the charging port pins are bent (tried fixing it with no luck), and there seem to be no spare parts for the special/global edition of the phone. Shocking really. So another thing to watch out for if ordering the versions that are designed to be used globally.

When will the Redmi Note 5 release in India?

  • The device will be released very shortly in China, and then after 3-4 months, the device will be released in India. We cannot tell you the exact date yet, but it will be most likely released in the month of December 2017 or January 2018.

I love this phone . Yeah it's not perfect but it's the best phone I've ever had. Least amount of glitches, amazing battery life, fast, crazy price. Put a glass screen protector on and use a rubber/decent case. I have dropped mine plenty on concrete. Still works with no major damage. Just slight paint wear on the corners, due to rubber rubbing.

I have owned a bunch of budget big battery phones on the market. K6000 pro, k6000 plus, ulefone power but the lenovo p2 shines where all the rest fail. Display -awesome. Camera- very good. Wi-fi no budget phone can achieve more than 50Mbps this one is dual band easy tops my broadband of 110Mbits. Led flash is top quality skin tone better than most outthere. Speaker is one of the best on any phone ive heard. For once no regrets. Cant wait for p3 upgrade!! This is a great buy promise

I only really noticed because the battery was draining faster, and then took a look at the battery stats and saw that PC was using as much as 10% consistently. I don't even know what you're talking about. I get two days charge from an hour's top up, plugged in while watching something on Netflix in the evenings, I barely even think about charging anymore since getting this phone and being freed up from that whole silly charging meta people have with their other phones. But if you're happy to pay significantly more for some other new way of charging a phone with a mediocre battery then more power to you I suppose. The P2 is such a revolutionary device in my mind that I'm tempted to get another to have as a backup, but I'll wait till I see one going for £99 before really looking at doing that.

Flagship phones? This thing puts those daft rip-offs to shame, but hey ho people don't seem to mind paying 500+ (AT LEAST) for slightly faster specs and much worse battery life do they, but to be quite honest I think those consumers are fools.

5 Aug 17 #88
I listen to a lot of podcasts so it's using that amount on my phone during usage, but Podcast Addict is using far, far less than PC is for the same usage time. It's not a background issue but actual battery drain while playing podcasts.

OK Three have discontinued SELLING the P2. they were the only UK network stocking the P2 though.
You can buy the international version form amazon yes but not at the £199 Three were selling it for.

the Lenovo Vibe Range so far (P1/P2) have been released on a yearly lifecycle each September. so it's rumored that a P3 will be released any time in the next few weeks....

i agree it's a great phone, I wouldn't say £500 top end but better than most of the other midrange stuff out there. I bought it for the battery life and Dual sim capability so I could ditch carrying work/personal phones around and it replaced a HTC One and Galaxy Note 4 and is better than both of them.

If your not bothered about 4G then the £175 price form Gearbest is a cracking price for a great phone...personally I'd find one with Band 20 though.

Buyer beware. I got one of these and it suffered what they (falsely) claimed was moisture damage. Lenovo refused to adhere to UK consumer law on the matter and suggested that perhaps a phone could suffer such damage by being in your pocket. Good deal, but if you have a problem you may be SOL. Fortunately I got a full refund because of how disjointed and chaotic Lenovo's customer service is, but it was a hard battle.

I chopped my long term HTC One M7 in for the Lenovo P2 in May, buying it from Three as a PAYG handset.

I was a little apprehensive as I've also had HTC or Sony handsets but it's a superb device. I am a fairly high user, data or WiFi in most of the day using it and I get two days use with ease. I was having to charge my old HTC twice a day or leave it charging while in use.

Yes it is larger and heavier than other mid or the high end devices but I'd trade that any day for the battery life and lack of bloatware.

This one puts all the flagship £600 phones to shame. No, I don't need a 4k display on my tiny 5 inch screen, I have my 65" 4k tv for that. What I want is not to carry powerbanks and be chained to the wall all the time waiting for my phone to charge.

Excellent phone, bought it at three on the day of launch and still going strong. Amazing battery life and flagship performance. Yes the camera is a bit meh and audio quality is not he best but I switched from iphone 7 to this and don't regret it, charge it twice a week with moderate use, will last 2 days on very heavy use, no problem!
The finger print reader and home button is amazing!!!! Good build quality as well, I dropped it numerous times, a few scratches and dents but all good. I usually change my phones every few months but have this one since novemeber and not even thinking to get something else.

Got a Redmi Note 4 this week on the sale but was looking out for this for a long time before.
What apps are people using to check battery?
Used to have GSAM but once you are on Android 7 it doesnt work anymore. Using the settings -> battery page it says.
13 hours usage
Screen time on 8h 47m with 37% still go to, but the phone has been on longer than 13 hours... does it mean the battery has been in use for 13 hours? That doesnt seem like long time at all.
Where can i find how long the phone has lasted since it was last charged to 100%?
If i was to get this, only problem would be 02? all other networks have at least 2 bands for 4G, is that correct?

4 Aug 17 #52
It says on the FAQ that the hardware is P2C72 and the firmware is P2A42. It almost certainly doesn't have Band 20. Does anyone have any experience of what the lack of Band 20 results in? Is it worse for different networks?

Bought a Redmi Note 4 Global 4/64 Black on Tuesday during flash sale £141 (minus quidco 8% tracked) (fantacy-aliexpress) for the missus .... I believe the difference between this and the redmi note 4 is bigger battery + NFC, is that right? I made a promise to never buy a phone for more than £150 again (nexus 4 @ £299 Jan/2013)

Your Xiaomi is probably the global version with band 20 which this won't have, otherwise it's largely similar with some design and software differences.

The Lenovo has a front fingerprint sensor which for me is the more reasonable position. The bigger battery and NFC tip the battle in its favour IMHO but it is more expensive - if you can find it to buy.
MDL199 to spitfire51
4 Aug 17 #29
I have both the P2 and the Redmi Note 4 Global edition but mine is the 3/32gb version.

In terms of battery there isn't that much in it with the Xiaomi punching above it's weight.

The P2 slightly edges it in the camera dept but again there isn't much in it.

The only big advantage for the P2 is NFC but if that doesn't matter to you then it's a non issue.

The Xiaomi is definitely the better looking phone - it's a classy looking thing and having band 20 is a big deal which the P2 in this deal does not - mine does because I bought it from 3.

You definitely won't be disappointed with the Redmi Note 4!

Had the 3 version of this (32GB/4GB) since its UK release in January and it's been the best phone I've ever owned. I never have to worry about battery life and have never had to use the power saver switch on the side, but it's nice to know it's there if I'm away from a charger for a significant period of time. I manually updated it to Nougat 7.0 and most of the Marshmallow issues have been resolved for me, most noticeably the lip sync audio issue. It's almost the perfect phone. Fingerprint sensor is in the perfect place (I don't like them at the back). Screen is a Samsung-made Super AMOLED. I almost went for a Samsung as I wanted an AMOLED display but thankfully I spotted this. When I saw the battery and the fact it has NFC (not many Lenovos do) I was sold!!

Gearbest is advertising this as the P2a42 model which is the UK version (32gb) running on band 20 (Most of the UK use this for their 4G network).
I've spoke to their chat to get clarification as the P2a42 model does not come in 64gb.
If this is the P2c72 model then this will struggle for network connection.

I've ordered 1 for both me and my wife but i'll be cancelling if this is the P2c72 model.

Edit:

Actually, I'm more confused now having read up on it here.

Gearbest's offering is apparently the one that isn't for the Chinese market. However that model doesn't come as a 4GB/64gb variant apparently.

I have a feeling Gearbest have got the model number wrong, and it is actually the Chinese version (p2c72).

Band 20 (4G-800) will only be an issue if you area using O2 4G. Othe Network has used 4G-2600MHz
But even with O2 you could still use 3G.

Not only O2. Also Three, also Voda, also Irish networks..

Its hard to predict...

A lot depends on which carrier who its sent by, normal post parcels may not get "selected" to be checked and nothing is to pay. Carriers like Fedex or DHL may inspect a higher percentage of parcels, but then typically they tend to ship higher value goods that will be more likely to be over the limits.

First thing to remember if the parcel is marked GIFT that does NOT mean no tax, if HMRC inspect it and decide its not a GIFT you get charged. They could (but not often) take the option to return it or confiscate if if they feel its been deliberately mislabeled.

Second is if a the parcel is inspected and anything payable you will have to pay a surcharge to the carrier who will have paid the charge on your behalf on top of the actual cost in VAT/DUTY. I half recall is about £15 Royal Mail. DHL charge a percentage with lower limit of £12 I think (from memory). This is normally payable before you get the parcel.

Finally there is DUTY and VAT. Duty I think is 0% on mobiles but VAT will be chargeable on the entire cost of the parcel, that phone and shipping. Again if the seller has undervalued it or said its is a gift HMRC may decide otherwise. Despite what many people think, if HMRC do this the onus would be on you to show it is a gift, NOT on HMRC to prove it is not.

So assuming its picked up and charged, lets say the phone is £176, and the shipping £10, that would mean a VAT/DUTY part of the bill of £37 or so, and on top of that plan on to add £15 or so fees from the carrier, making it a total bill of around £50.

Just for completeness this does not apply if you were to go abroad and bring something back personally, If HMRC were to stop you (or you choose to go through the red channel) then they charge a "standard" 2.5% duty rate on all goods, and standard vat on top of that for the entire cost (Certain items such as booze and fags are excluded from this and are charged at their full rates)

And if you say you took it out when you left the UK, then again its on you to prove that you did, and so you have already paid UK Vat/Duty. HMRC would charge you the VAT/Duty on the item, and its down to you to send HMRC your UK reciepts to claim the VAT/Duty payment back.

How much more does it cost these manufacturers to make their phones work on Band 20? I mean, seriously.

Great phone with poor camera. Screen smashed after first drop :disappointed:
nileshpandya17 to PaweMalczewski

Ditto this. Had to pay £100 to repair the screen, but the phone is that good that muggins paid it. Battery life is second to none. It's refereshing being able to use a phone to its full capacity without thinking about how this is going to drain your battery!

JonBetts2004 to rapid111111

They should release a global version with b20, but not sure when that will happen. Even without that though, the spec sounds incredible for a sub £200 phone.

?? they had, not that long ago, the third highest market share after samsung and apple? They are undoubtedly in decline but i think they still qualify as a 'big brand name'

My battery started going down within six hours of heavy use recently, thought maybe the battery was giving in... until I realised it was Pocketcasts draining huge amounts off it! Moved over to Podcast Addict, back to battery glory again.

Because in the Product FAQ on the gearbest webpage several people have already questioned which version gearbest are selling and they have confirmed it's not the P2A42. They are selling is the P2C72 with P2A42 firmware

"Q The item description mentions that this is the Lenovo P2 P2A42 which is the international version of the phone. That being said, one of the answers for another question says this is the Chinese version P2C72. I would just like a clarification about which version is actually for sale. Thank you.

Hello Patrick,

The hardware of the phablet is P2C72. The firmware is P2A42.

Thank you for your inquiry.

and

QI thought Lenovo P2 ( p2a42 ) was global version and not Chinese version. I thought global version has Band 28 but you not show B28 in your specifications list. Can you confirm if this phone has Band 28 or not Band 28. Thanks
