I saw the HUKD listing for the Leica TRI 100 yesterday and looked around and found this lower model for a cheaper price. Currently there is only 1 left in stock (more on the way).
The Leica Geosystems TRI 70 Aluminum Mounting Tripod provides a secure base for laser distance measures and line lasers. It extends between 40-115cm in height. The head plate can be rotated for easy attachment to lasers and features a 1/4in threaded screw for mounting laser distance measures and line lasers.
The tripod has wind-up fine height adjustment, 3 section lockin legs and adjustable rubber feet. The bubble level built into this unit allows the tripod to be easily adjusted for quick set-up. Designed for use with Leica's Lino range of cross line lasers, it can also be used with any other 1/4in thread rotating or line laser for reliable, precise levelling.

Please note, this does not come with a tripod head like the TRI 100.
Also, after posting this deal, the stock level strangely went up to 4 from 1...

This is a pretty specialised item, it is not for cameras (I suppose a 1/4" Whitworth thread would fit - it would be very bulky for a camera) but for a total station or geodetic GPS receiver - now I doubt that many (any) HUKD viewers needs on of these.
It is a bit hard to see why anyone would need one of these, survey instruments always come with a new one and most professional surveyors will have a couple of spare ones from old instruments (the old tripods fit). Perhaps one might need a replacement one of these if a survey instrument tripod broke, but as the instruments cost in the region of £5,000 - £10,000 the OEM would normally just give the surveyor a new one.
This item is so specialised I can't see that it is a useful HUKD post. I suspect people have voted hot because they think it is for a camera and it seems like a cheap price for a large item, but I'll have to vote cold.

Sure, you could use it for a camera... but it would have to stay constantly level. You wouldn't be able to tilt the camera up or down, or rotate it without moving the whole tripod... making it a little pointless.

I do hope you have not bought this for a camera, it would be completely unsuitable. Whilst the 1/4"W thread will (probably) fit it is designed for a survey instrument (which sits on top of a tri-bracket (a very finely adustable plane)). This is a bulky tripod that is supposed to sit in one place and not move for hours whilst the surveyor makes observations to or from it.
I put the technical description in my previous piece because I thought people on this site would have mistaken the item for a camera tripod (I would not have thought anyone on this site would own a total station, geodetic GPS receiver or a surveying laser that needed one of these). Unless you have bought the tripod for a survey instrument like that, cancel your order now because you will surely be disappointed with this item.

Tried to cancel it however this is the second amazon order in the past week that hasn't been able to be cancelled, i'm just going to refuse the delivery. I was just wondering in case it COULD be used as a camera tripod. Thanks for the reassurance, added head though :smile:

imo this is getting heat based on the previous tripod which COULD have been used for a camera without a head and the low size is going to limit its functionality even for the laser sighting never mind making it virtually unusable for a camera
ofc it COULD be used - it has a screw of the correct size and 3 legs the proper question is whether it should and the answer is a massive NO to anyone with a camera that should be incredibly obvious

I tend to agree with Brilly above. The 1/4"W screw will (probably) fit a camera, but it would look a bit daft and would be nowhere near as good as a camera triopod (the photographer will have to kneel and there will be no level adjustment except by moving the legs).
It is hard to understand why this posting has attracted any heat at all, this is a very specialised item with a tiny market (I suspect no market al all for subscribers to HUKD unless there is another professional surveyor out there, and one that buys his own survey instruments). I suspect people saw the photo in the headline and what appeared to be a low price, put 2 and 2 together, made 5 and voted hot, when they should have left it well alone because they did not understand what it was. I think this often happens with the HUKD website. Some blame for the confusion is attributable to the original poster for not understanding what he/she was adverstising (again, I think this happens quite often with this website).
Some damage has been done in that at least one person has bought something he/she will have no use for (caveat emptor applies of course). It might be best to try to sell the item on (eBay maybe) but the market will be limited, or find another use for it (perhaps the base for a nice coffee table?)

Surely a ball or three way head fitted to it would enable camera use? And add a bit to the height. Not every tripod user needs a 5-6foot tripod you know!

You can return almost all non personalised items under distance regs and some retailers even pay for return postage. No need to sell this on ebay, just return it if not suitable

Vast majority of higher end camera tripods don't come with a head, so I don't think that should be held against this one. Main problems in terms of use for photography are the height and lack of leg angles.
