Saw the sandisk usb at £6.99 but if you dont mind a slighter larger profile £1.39 less, Available with Prime too.
also this version seems to be usb 3.1? not sure how it differs from usb 3.0 but assume its better

3.1 has essentially 2x more theoretical data transfer speed..... Great bragging rights, but also nice to have for larger files - you'll be waiting less for them to transfer

Nope. USB 3.1 gen 1 is USB 3.0 and visa versa. Just a name change. Not sure why though but someone thought it was a good idea to do that. USB 3.1 gen 2 is the one that has 10 Gbps theoretical speed.

It's a cheap USB stick. The interface's theoritical maximum speeds are as relevant as the speed of light is to my Octavia 1.9 Diesel

Actually the speed of light is quite relevant to your Octavia, since length (1m) is defined using the speed of light it provides a standard which everyone can follow. Ie speed and distance travelled on the car...

You'll probably find there are USB 2.0 sticks that are faster than this. I hate the way USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 is marketed.

Maybe it was bad luck but I own lots of usb drives and this was the first to break. I didn't even use it that much,

Hate the sliding case on this thing, if you hold the wrong part when inserting it contracts, wish had got the Sandisk with the sliding switch on it
