I like Icelandair but it's worth noting that if you are going in October as I am you should be able to fly cheaper with Westjet or Air Transat and those are direct flights. I think though that Icelandair might have a deal (I heard this when I was in Reykjavik in February) that you can buy one of their flights that stops over in Icleand and actually stay there for a period to do tourist stuff before continuing on to your final destination. Really good if you had the time and money!

You can stopover in Iceland for upto 7 days and the flight price remains the same. We did this in May with a flight to Boston it was great, the only problem we encountered was that on the way home Icelandair transferred us to a direct BA flight to Heathrow. Should have been a great bonus but BA were awful and bumped us off the flight saying their customers were a priority they put us on standby for a flight an hour later which still got us home quicker than going via Reykjavik. I was not impressed with BA at all the supervisor spoke to us like something stuck to the bottom of her shoe. as far as I was concerned as soon as Icelandair booked our flight with them I was a BA customer and even if they did not consider me to be one i could have been a future customer.

Sadly BA have been rubbish for some time now. When I lived in the US they were the best by some margin but a recent experience with them to Florida confirmed the stories - dreadful! Wasn't cheap either.

Avoid!!! They’ll hold your luggage in Iceland and send it back to your destination whenever it suits them. Poor customer service. Much worse than Ryanair or any other low cost airlines

Is this their standard practice of jsut a one of incident related to you?

Check the reviews. Not an isolated incident. I played the luggage lottery with them even knowing about the reviews and I lost. :rage:
