If you zoom in on the images you can even see them clearly labelled as 'Serial ATA' drives (which they are). Until the newer NVMe (PCI Express) M.2 SSDs recently appeared all the previous M.2 drives were SATA.

it's interesting but looking at the connector it's not a Sata connection. It's clearly got 2 notches cut in the end that connects.

Like what I said, unless your laptop already has an M2 connector and space for an M2 ssd then a SATA drive is the only viable option.
You were trying to say that there is an M2 drive that fits into a SATA connection. There isn't, M2 is a different connector to SATA.

This has confused me now as was looking at m2 drives (I know nothing about them other than my mobo has a m2 slot). Is this whole page on scan wrong then as it says M2 SATA drives. I take it it's sata but uses PCIE connectors?

if your mobo has an m2 slot then you can fit an m2 drive! - you might need to change the boot preference if you leave the old Sata drive connected.
I bought this for my laptop (which like many laptops doesn't have an m2 slot).

Yes I would like a sata m2 2242 length but samsung evo 128 or 256 would be nice, seems they only do msata which is slightly different AFAIK.

- SATA is a straight swap for the old school spinning-metal-disk 5400/7200rpm drives that most have.
