Camera is beaten by LG, Samsung, HTC, Huawei and Apple. Photos and video from it when I owned the XL were garbage. Couldn't understand the hype about it.

The rest of the phone is decent. You can get the LG G6 on eBay for less than this and it's a far superior phone.

They should have called it "the chin" because it has a chin that does, pretty much nothing, which is good for holding it I guess (yeah I know there are electronics inside, oh but look at the Galaxy S8).

Still overpriced IMHO (coming from a Nexus fan).

People claiming "it's the best mobile experience, and I'm coming from an iPhone" - well, of course it would. iOS still doesn't have a file manager.

Android has come leaps and bounds. I'd get a S7 edge over this. Water-resist, wider angle lens, better low-light functionality, better after service, better battery life (fast charging that really works), expandable storage, and significantly more useful accessories, official or not. Doesn't have the "brag factor" but that's not why we buy devices like this right? IMHO of course.

Still, HEAT for being the best price if you're set on getting one.

I purchased s7 edge 6 month ago from ebay in excellent condition for £320 and then sold it month ago for £270 and now purchased google pixel XL from ebay for £315 . I would say camera and software experience is better than s7 edge but it lack memory card and IP78 water protection . Battery is very much same. I did not went for smaller pixel because it has poor battery but this price is very good and i think it may drop further after release of new pixel . Its not good to be smartphone addict like me as i hardly stick with one smartphone for more than 6 months lol

this years pixel is likely to be nearly twice the price of this one too though!

This Pixel is the HTC manufactured one ? I would personally wait for this years.. rumour was that it was made for Google in a bit of a hurry after Huawei pulled out... this years Pixel should be better.

I'd say it would be safer to buy sooner rather than later before they run out. I've just moved from my launch day Nexus 5 to the 128GB pixel XL and it's glorious. Absolutely loving this phone :thumbsup:

Awful phone, a good friend bought one full price when it was launched, full of hype & promise, within a month it was clear , awful camera compared to his year old iPhone and terrible battery life. Because of his contact he was forced to keep it for a year, he never stopped complaining about it :disappointed: ..Get a Samsung instead..

Subjective really - depends if you want the 'true' Google experience or someone else's. You also get unlimited full res uploads included with this device, which adds some value if you use Google Photos.

I have a Pixel XL 128gb from launch, absolutely love this phone. Can't wait for pixel 2 :-) Like others have commented rightly all videos and photos get stored in cloud at full resolution for free so storage isn't too much of an issue really :-)

If Apple fans were actually forced to use one of these phones they would soon realise it does a very good job.
You can say an Apple phone is better - but it's subjective, they are so close in performance, looks etc etc that

That's still pretty woeful considering the iPhone 5s (released in 2013 with iOS 7) will get iOS 11 this November - even if it is as slow as xxxx.

It's an OK price for it but the storage is literally slower than eMMC 5 devices yet the Pixel uses UFS which is incredibly fast and yes the phone is a failure, fails to beat the same spec'd devices and somehow half as slow as the OnePlus 3T. (same SoC etc.)

I have actually got the Oneplus 5 though, and it is absolutely superb. The camera especially portrait mode can easily be mistaken for a DSLR. And I have not noticed any jelly effect whatsoever, even though every screen is the same. I think the screen problem has been blown out of proportion - it is nowhere near as bad as it has been made out by some people, and I think the screens have just been installed a different way to before, there is no upside down.

A properly executed Oneplus 5 would definitely have been a better choice than this. However, there are too many loose ends implemented in it. It is probable that most will be resolved by firmware updates. However, installing the screen upside down is unforgivable. I was holding out to get one but must now wait on the 5T or 6. The camera on this pixel phone is still better than on the new Oneplus 5, read the reviews and don't just take the dxo Mark.

This is an ok price but expect a further reduction once the Pixel 2 is released later this year.

I would recommend spending the extra £50 to get the top phone of 2017 and best Android phone to date - the Oneplus 5, as you are getting a superior quality camera, 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage.

I can only speak from experience, and it doesn't tally with what you say. They obviously have grades for a reason and your only point of reference is the *one* you bought, where I bought two. So at the very least you have someone contradicting the idea that most of them are perfect. I've been buying Refresh deals for years and early on they were all 14 day returns - there was no grading system - so unless you were unlucky you'd get a brand new phone albeit with an O2 box and limited accessories. The have started using condition tiers though as they now include recycled phones and phones that might have been returned in a less than perfect condition.

Irrespective of all this, I think my point still stands that it is unfair to compare a contract cancellation strategy for a different device that may or may not result in obtaining a phone in perfect condition (though we have to logically assume it won't based on the grading system) with a brand new, unopened phone that is SIM free and requires no hassle at all and ensures everyone who takes out the deal gets exactly the same experience.

I'm currently torn. When the price goes down a bit again, do I pay around £320 for an eglobal LG G6, or go for this?
I appreciate there's a huge feature gap between the two phones, but I'm wondering if this smooth stock android experience is enough to look past that

Don't doubt your reports but I stand by my point that you can't compare. Not everyone can get credit too, and some people don't like taking out credit agreements even if they are going to be cancelling them. It's a faff for one.

I'll leave you to enjoy your iPhone and I'm glad you got a good deal, I just don't think these two scenarios are directly analogous.

You are assuming I bought only one iPhone on o2 refresh, I bought my original iPhone 6 on o2 refresh I also bought mums phone and gfds and now also bought the iPhone 7. There were also endless comments from happy members on here saying how brand new their phones looked all bought for that price, you don't have to take my word you can search for the deal on here and read the many positive comments on the phones conditions.
Either way, if the phone came back faulty or not working perfectly you have apple warranty to fall back on, where if you walk into the apple genie Support centre they just swap the phone for you, so not sure what the issue is.
Even this brand new google straight off the box phone, a percentage of these will be faulty hence why the law says manufacturers have to offer a warranty.
Is it more hassle to go through o2 refresh, possibly, but at least you get a better phone, better os, better apps for over a 100 pounds cheaper, hence why I don't think this is a bargain

I do think they're definitely trying to have people over in whatever way possible. I suppose when you're taking out a contract with them, it's plausible because it's a contract and you're always going to have trouble arguing your case, no matter how good your credit record is (in the same way you can get knocked back for new credit card or mortgage applications) but they really are cowboys if they use the same excuse for one off purchases that require no contract or further relationship with the purchaser. They simply have no need to check people out who are buying handsets with them. I wouldn't expect Sainsburys to do a financial background check on me for buying an expensive bottle of whisky. Proper cowboys CPW.

Again I agree that perhaps a small number are, but the deals had over a 1000 heat with 100s of comments all saying how new it was apart from one guy who said his was faulty. But in the whole I have done several o2 refresh and generally speaking they are like new and all have apple warranty so if there was an issue you take it to apple and they swap it

I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that the Lg software is anywhere close to stock from. I've had the LG G5 running Nougat and played on a G6 and all their design cues have followed through. There's no semblance of stock Android visible to me so I'd be interested to know which bits resemble 'stock'! Samsung are equally keen on layering their own aesthetics and features but I will say - having owned an S8 and the + this year - that their software has improved massively and now at least looks really nice. I haven't been swayed from my opinion that Lg have a dreadful sense of aesthetics when it comes to software.

As for software updates - this Pixel will get at least Android P, in line with a two year plan. It will also get security patches for a year after that; the LG G6 will probably get Android O (albeit a long time after the Pixel) but it isn't certain that it will get Android P - in fact I'd go as far as to say that it's unlikely. Either way, choosing a G6 over a Pixel for likelihood of security updates would seem odd to me.

Other things to consider are that the Pixel is generally perceived to have a better camera than the G6 (albeit without the wide angle option), the waterproofing makes it harder to repair than the Pixel outside of official channels and the 'cheap' price the G6 is likely being compared with will be through grey import channels. You can probably also buy a cheaper Pixel through the same channels if you're not worried about warranty and any customer service concerns. If anyone can point me towards a legitimate high street store selling the G6 for £399 then I'd consider looking at one. I still think the Pixel is a more attractive proposition though.

That's interesting, as I was told the same thing when I was refused a contract ? Cancelled, then told I had failed a credit check even though I have great credit score.

I've had both Nexus and LG devices. It may not be exact stock but it's much closer than others like TouchWiz and EMUI, depends who you are comparing it with. Yes, they will stop updating the Pixel in October of next year. Just look at their previous support for Nexus devices, they end it when they state they will. If they were going to do it for longer they would have put the date as longer.

Most flagship devices get 2 major Android updates, which is the exact same as the Pixel. The only difference is yes the speed of the updates, but all OEMs are rubbish at getting out fast updates. If you only care about getting the latest Android version as soon as possible I won't argue against Pixel being better. But in most other aspects the G6 wins.

Most people know by now that the first Pixel wasn't exactly best effort, hopefully they fix this with the new one this year (probably not from the leaks).

It wasn't EE, they were fine and changed his SIM only contract he had with them already, it was CPW for the handset only who messed him about all day... They said he failed security checks (twice) when purchasing this Pixel deal as handset only... Which is absolutely ridiculous because he was purely buying the handset, like any other purchase in any other shop. He ended up having to drive to a CPW and had to talk them into honouring the website price of £399. Which lost out on the £10 cashback through Topcashback...... Which is "convenient".

Do you actually own one? The G6 software is miles away from stock. I quite like LG but I really dislike the software aesthetics and unnecessary additions to their software - it is very *very* far from stock Android. Their update rollouts are also extremely erratic.

The update cycle is also quoted as a minimum. Google won't just stop updating this phone in the middle of next year, their original quotes are just to cover their backs and there is every chance they will continue to update beyond next year. I'd be very surprised if the G6 gets anything after Android O, and it probably won't even get that until next year.

That part is not true - I've bought the various grades before and had to return both as they had scratches on them. I gave up in the end as they were sold out. The description also talks about the physical condition, not just the warranty. They are definitely not just 14 day returns - many of them are customer recycles, and even 14 day returns can be scratched if the customer is a complete numpty who doesn't look after their phone (these people exist).

G6 is the better phone. Waterproofing, tiny bezels, wide angle rear camera. LG software is near stock with a few useful additions, plus the G6 will be supported for longer than the Pixel (woeful I know) as Google ends updates for the Pixel in October 2018.

The perfectly perfect and like new are all exactly the same condition. The difference is how many months of apple warranty left on it, but they are all kinda new phones mostly returned under the o2 14 days thing, last one I got even had the sticker on it

Not quite that simple: order a full phone contract, upon arrival put SIM in phone and request unlock, call and cancel contract and pay off the Airtime part of the bill. In time O2 often send a bill for many hundreds of pounds which you'll need to then ring O2 and get them to sort out - this has happened to me twice in the five or so O2 Refresh contracts I've taken to get a cheap phone. On top of that it affects your credit rating to its detriment - or it does whenever I check my score.

Out of interest what grade of phone did you go for to get it for £270? I'd be surprised if it was 'like new' rather than 'perfectly fine', so if you happened to get a perfect one then you were lucky as they wouldn't have grades if every phone was perfect.

Would I buy another android, yes, but if it has the same constraints as apple but none of the benefits that android used to boast, such as extendable memory then there is no point

Nope the camera's not brilliant but the P2 is still phone of 2017 for me....nothing it can't do (and for longer than anything else out there) and for £200. Bloody brilliant phone. Its the nearest thing to the Nexus handsets of old in terms of price for performance.

EE are the hardest to get a contract with, you'll probably get an email soon stating he's failed a credit check.

You'll also get random calls from CPW about upgrading, it shows up on the phone as Bristol !

£499 bought me a handset with a great camera, 128Gb internal storange, 8GB Ram, dual sim support, FHD AMOLED screen.

To get a similar internal storage, you were looking at £699 at launch for the Pixel..........with its SD821 compared to my SD835 its a clear rip off.

I'm a recent Oneplus (5) convert, but the quality on this phone has made me realise how over priced most Android flagships are, and I expect the Pixel 2 will be no different, especially if they put the kybosh on 3.5mm headphone port.

Anyone actually managed to get this deal? Boyfriend has spent all morning faffing with it and sorting a new SIM contract with EE , finally placed the order for the phone (through Topcashback for £10 off) and an hour later they've sent him an email cancelling the order. Phoned up to query and they don't know why, they just said try again but he doesn't want to keep compromising his credit card before we go on holiday in a few days.

I don't get this, why buy this when you can get an iPhone 7 on o2 refresh 32GB a much more stable os for 270 pounds.
I was a big fan of google and very anti apple and for many years battled my way through various android handsets LG Samsung and even google/Motorola
False economy, sooner or later there is lag there is crashing there is issues. I then tried apple and was on iPhone 6 for oven two years, smooth as KY gel and it's still going, just bought iPhone 7 cause of the cheaper price. Overall in comparison to google the apple handcents are just premium and apps just work unlike android buggy apps and google laggy os

The "chin" puts me off. Silly, I know, but I'm not compromising when it comes to a £400 phone. (Still using my OnePlus One here.)

They can easily go back to premium, but they could have easily have done that while undercutting apple, and convincing people that their product is not only built as well, but better.

Was looking at the Honor 9 with 64GB internal and a slot for storage. It's 379 with a free band. This looks maybe a better offering though, just a shame the storage is so limited....

I wouldn't say that Refresh deals count as yours wouldn't have been a Perfect one for that price, you evidently just happened to get a perfect one by chance - which happens from time to time. It's also a faff to set up a contract, apply for the unlock, call to cancel and often call again to sort out when they screw up and charge you hundreds of pounds. I've done many Refresh deals and don't mind the faff too much but I don't think you can compare it for this deal for a brand new, totally unused, different phone with different features.

I have an iPhone 7 but I don't think it's necessarily better in every way. It suits me more as I prefer iOS for day to day usage but if I were on Android full time I'd get a pixel. I tried the S8 and S8 Plus and didn't rate their usability for me - the Pixel seems like a solid device with guaranteed updates and good specs - including one of the best cameras on the market by all accounts. People are also forgetting to factor in the unlimited full resolution photo and video storage you get with this, which in itself has to be worth something.

Refresh deal, I have always used android but I can see why people love iphones, very smooth in operation

£400 is too much. Overpriced considering iPhone 7 is better in every way except lacking home screen customisation.

This is a big problem in marketing. Most people perceive a premium price tag as a premium product, not the actual quality of the product itself. Google are trying to go back to premium with pixel.

Such a weird release. Still can't get an new XL version. The way they ripped up the rule book in supplying great-spec phones at affordable prices, to follow Apple with a premium-priced phone but then forgot to actually make the range available.





Still, these are some of the best phones for Android if that's what you'd like. More of an Apple-style phone if you like that sort of thing but prefer Android over iOS and don't like the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Different sites, diferent opinions. Only downside is that all the reviews are based on user expierence, that is nowhere near how profesionally cameras get tested!
In my opinion, every phone is good in its on way, sometimes with little tweaks you can change the whole performance of it!
All depend on user skills and knowledges, for example, user with a basic skills an lower gear more likely will produce better pictures overall then someone with top tech and lack of understanding how photography works!

Could anyone provide any opinions on how the Google assistance is, in particular when they are driving. As the law has recently changed and we can not even touch our phones when driving, I find myself increasingly hating my iPhone more in particular, Siri as I can't even reply or send basic messages/replies to people accurately. That's not even including dictation to the phone what I want to say! I remember Google being better but I have no idea about the assistant.

This has become so important to me, doing long journeys that I'm willing to get rid of my iPhone 7.

In some ways that shows just how much longevity these devices have, and how good an investment they are as far as phones go.

Tempted to buy at this price, I've been looking for a new phone for a while. Only thing holding me back is will this be cheaper in a month as the Pixel 2 gets announced...

To properly compare battery life you need to look at screen on time, the Pixel manages 4-6 hours depending on activity.

Battery is far too small in these IMO (2770mAh). Weird thing is, the average phone user doesn't give a monkey's about how many ms it took to open a web page, or what it's 3D graphics score is, they are about battery life and probably having a decent camera for snapping photos.

This still needs £50 off of it IMO.

This is one hell of a phone for this price. Please dont compare it with iphones and others. This is a flagship and by far the best Android phone around or atleast was not so long ago :smile: The camera is the best you can find on any phone whatsoever :smile:

I have had a 32GB Pixel since Dec 2016 (purchased at £599 direct from Google) and have had the best mobile experience (bar none) to date and I came off an iPhone 7.
Before the Pixel I barely lasted a month with a handset but I have had no reason to change it!
The camera is still the best out there (maybe HTC U11 pips it).. OS is still smooth as butter.. not carried out a single factory reset since I have owned it!
No lagging or crashes at all and always up to date with the latest security patches and android versions.
For the experience I have had it was definitely worth the £599 I paid so the current price is a good price in my humble opinion.

I've owned the Pixel 32GB since 2016 last year, managed to buy it used for £479 in almost perfect condition.

I think this is a fair price but it's clear the Pixel is still considered to be a premium product considering the lack of major price drops (like the LG G6).

That being said, this is one of the best Android phones I've used in terms of the general day to day experience and smoothness. The constant software updates shouldn't be considered a massive benefit but seeing as it's Android it shouldn't be taken for granted.The camera is the best selling point about this phone and still holds up amazingly to 2017 flagships, especially low light photos. The screen is great, both punchy and colourful, and I don't mind it being a traditional screen. It's simple yet practical. Same with the design, it really grows on you and I personally think it's sleek and you appreciate the little subtle differences compared to an iPhone (glass on metal back, flushed camera, fingerprint scanner on the back, slightly curved screen edges). Build quality feels sturdy and solid all around. The unlimited photos and videos from the Google Photos service is also an amazing asset of this phone that no other Android has - it makes having a 32GB device bearable considering I take a lot of photos with this phone. Apple's cloud service isn't even in the same league. I don't really mind the lack of waterproofing.

There are some issues with this phone that prevent me from calling it near perfect. While the stills are incredible, its video quality is not as good as say the iPhone 7; it can get surprisingly noisy and disappointing in low light. Also I turn the electronic stabilisation in video off because it doesn't look natural to me. Battery life is the biggest drawback of this phone; it's merely mediocre.I previously had a Moto G4 and LG G4, and battery life has been worse than both phones. Android O might be able to improve this because the standby time of the Pixel is worryingly bad. You need to carry a portable charger with this phone just in case. The power delivery charging helps somewhat but it's not faster than standard quick charging. With the Moto G4 I never worried about making it to the end of the day but with the Pixel I can't even make it to the end of the day so just be aware of mediocre battery, or go for the XL version. Also, while the build quality is great and solid, the durability of the phone is questionable. I have a case on mine, but cracks in the back glass have been complained about and the aluminium frame is very easy to scuff. It's not a particularly slippery phone but I would recommend a case. The speaker is on the average side, but it's no worse than say an S8 speaker. People have also reported bluetooth and microphone issues, but I haven't really experienced either.

Bottom line is, this should be your first choice if the three things you require are:

a) Top-tier camera stills
b) Smooth and bloat-free UI and performance on the Android platform
c) Software updates

Don't get this phone if you prioritise:

a) Battery life
b) Video recording quality
c) Bluetooth performance
d) Waterproofing

All my past phones were Google nexus, then they bring Pixel ! More than 100% price hike over the 5x. I'm sure it's a great phone but I wouldn't buy one at £399.99.

I've been lusting after the 128GB Pixel XL for ages now after I played with one at launch but even ebay prices have remained ridiculously high. My credit card is currently looking at me like it's been violated and my launch day Nexus 5 knows something is up :grin: Shame I had to go for delivery though, would have preferred to pick one up tomorrow but nearest store with stock was 80 miles away!

It seems expensive at first but if you compare this to that so call flagship killer, anytime this is a much better choice :smile:

I would be all over this but I really miss waterproofing since I switched to an LG G5. I think the price isn't too bad considering it is a premium phone that can still compete with the flagships. I honestly don't see the point of the continuing specs race but people love bigger numbers because bigger is better...

Storage does suck a bit (but then I chose the 32gb version) but Google photos will handle all your pics, so don't need to save them on the phone. Super fast, multitasking etc. Never seems to slow down. Camera is still better than pretty much everything else available. If I didn't already have one, I'd be buying this (or getting the pixel 2)

Moan moan moan about storage but stay quiet when you realise you get unlimited free cloud storage at max resolution with a pixel.

I've got a 128gb version, never gone past 30gb capacity. Best phone I've ever had by far.

It's about to be superceded by the "Pixel 2" in a couple of month's time.
(But rumour has it Google have followed Apple, by removing the headphone socket).

The phone should have launched at this price. Almost a year on, asking for this price now just isn't worth it.

Jesus I was waiting for a price drop in December glad I didn't hold out. This is a fair price though, looking forward to the pixel 2.

Whilst the software and camera are great, the hardware is pretty awful for the price.

The aluminium used is incredibly soft, and any dirt caught in between a case and the housing will cause damage very quickly if you don't regularly clean your case.

In addition to that, the buttons feel cheap and are very hit and miss when it comes to one with a nice "click". Lots of them feel mushy.

And the screen is very bad by todays standards. Even the Moto Z Play had a better ambled panel. But they all have samsungs C grade AMOLED panels, meaning very poor brightness and uniformity.

Had the XL for a month or so before I swapped down to the normal pixel, thinking the screen uniformity may be less of an issue, but I also discovered the very average battery life of the smaller model too.

Wait for the pixel 2. Unless you can find this for £200-£300. This is too much. Its a very rushed product with amazing software, but thats not enough when you can get something like the LG G6 with a significantly better display, build, etc, for £330 or so these days.

I moved from a Pixel to a Galaxy S7 and feel the Pixel was actually the better phone. Silky smooth interface, it had that iOS feel to it - everything just works seamlessly and instantly. The background changing pattern/ colour according to the outside weather was a lovely touch. Camera was incredible. The only downside was the non-expandable storage, but the unlimited full quality Google Photo storage that comes with the phone definitely helps - especially if shooting 4K video.

I can only imagine they've reduced the price because of the upcoming Pixel 2. Rumours have it this will be the best phone of the year, even with the removed headphone jack.

Get a second hand S5 and stick a good time on it

Would love a Pixel 2, but my 6p has worked without issues for the last couple of years and I can't justify spending the amount I paid for my 6p on launch day ever again!

By far the best phone I have ever owned (32gb Pixel XL since launch FYI) - and I've been through a lot of phones!

Best Android software experience out there and the instant updates are great, no more waiting on third party manufacturers *cough*Samsung*cough* to pull the finger out.

I love the hardware too. I know it didn't get a great reception in that regard but I just like the minimal sleek look and I don't mind the 'chin' at all, quite frankly it gives me a spot to hold on to it! And don't get me started on the flat vs curved display...

For the first time ever I don't feel like I'm "waiting for the next big thing". It's quite probable I will end up buying the Pixel 2 but right now I have no urge to upgrade and that's after almost a year's use, never happened before.

Considered by many to be the best android phone in 2016. It would have been a huge seller at this price. However, I do accept that there are now a handful of better Android's out there and so £400 is only a fair price rather than a bargain.
