Would it be ridiculous to have this AND an Echo.......?

No. I have 2 Echo dots and 2 of these. These are a pretty good speaker in their own right (much better then either echo which are mono speakers I believe)/Echo has better calander integration, but google has better question answering. It is worth picking up a Google Home just so you can use Google music (upload all your own songs up to 50K tracks for free). Echo only supports Amazon or Spotify. Amazon do let you upload own music but has a very low limit for free.

I didn't know you could upload your own music to it (the Google cloud or whatever).
Will have to investigate how that works. I have thousands of MP3s I've ripped from my own CDs throughout the years. If I can say 'Google, play x', and it plays one of my MP3s, then that's a winner for me.

I'm pretty sure you can. When I have my phone in its cradle unlocked in the car I can say "Ok Google, play [song name] by [artist]" and it'll play, that's all music I've uploaded myself
Grabbed one of these lately, waiting for delivery. Only thing is I now have an Echo and a Home haha.

Can confirm that, I have songs uploaded to Google cloud and liks well with Google Play Music and their Google Assistant. As far as i'm aware you can upload up to 50,000 songs that can be used across all devices.
Do you still have to sound like an american teenager and say 'OK google' or are there new wake words.
Love the way amazon bagzied 'Computer'

Erm you can say Hey Google too  It's their decision, I think they might change it one day. There is rumours of a mini-Home, an Amazon Dot rival, coming soon. Maybe they'll change the trigger word then.

Should point out not sure you can talk direct to this for your own google music (obviously you can for google music service or Spotify) but you can 100% cast to this from google music via app on iPhone or android. I use this to play some of my Ministry of Sound albums that aren't on Spotify. I also thought you might like to know Google have enabled Bluetooth pairing yesterday so you can pair any device and play music or anything you want on it now. Sadly you still can't pair the home itself with a Bluetooth speaker like you can echo dot. 90% of the time that's not an issue but I like using my echo dot with my soundbase and Spotify Connect. That way get big sound without annoying pings from Bluetooth from phone. Still the home has surprisingly good bass and is pretty decent overall (sometimes mids get lost a bit but it's pretty decent as a speaker and I'm really fussy!)

Also you can tell it to cast to chromecast or chromecast audio so that is also good (play Spotify on bedroom chromecast etc)

Well my little assistant has arrived. I'm really impressed with the sound quality. I'm no audiophile, but it's more than good enough as a living room speaker for my needs.
Just trying to get used to using the voice commands now.

I am bought into Google, i have the phones, google music, books etc. However waiting for them to play catch-up I have Sonos to play my Google Play Music, Echo Dot for voice commands to Plex, lights, etc. Trying to justify this, but still can't. Once Sonos and Alexa tie up, I really can't see any need for me to buy this, Can someone convince me? Cheers
