Note 4 Global Version will use the same screen as China Note 4X. Just be sure that it's NOTE 4X and not for the smaller Redmi 4X. See here< Honorbuy replacement LCD has it titled for both RN4X and Global Version. On eBay, sellers with UK stock have the LCD/digitiser by itself like this listing<. However, you can get ones which include the frame (same as Honorbuy) from HK/China like this listing<. It will be easier to replace with frame included. In this video< the LCD with frame is removed by 1:16 then they proceed to remove the LCD from frame, which can be seen separated at 4:09. Honorbuy's (LCD with frame) replacement video<

Yeah get Redmi Note 4X accessories instead. There's been numerous RN4 Global Version deal threads in the past and most will have comments about it. Basically the Snapdragon variant was released as either RN4 or RN4X depending on region. It has an updated housing over the original China Mediatek variant. Getting accessories advertised as just "Redmi Note 4" will almost always be for original China model, whereas "Redmi Note 4X" will mean Snapdragon, therefore correct for RN4 Global Version. This article< has a lot of comparison photos. Although not in english, you should be able to deduce the changes and the impact it would have. The front photos are harder to tell but the difference would be that the earpiece speaker, camera and light sensor are closer together on Snapdragon therefore screen protectors with the 3 cutout holes, wouldn't line up properly if it's for Mediatek so you should look for Redmi Note 4X.

So just in general, If I am buying case/screen protector or any other parts/accesories from aliexpress, I should get items designed for the Redmi note 4x chinese version which is the same design as the Redmi note 4 global version?

Basically Redmi note 4x chinese version = Redmi note 4 global version design wise?

will Redmi note 4 (non-x) chinese version parts not fit the redmi note 4 global version then?

Is there a 12 month guarantee worth having with this or is it just a case of taking a chance with it considering it's unlikely to be worthwhile paying to send it back to China?

you said global and then asked if its band 20... that's pretty much what global means. works globally as its got all the bands.
4gb ram 64gb version is about £145 on ali and its on sale, picked up mine from there at £140 a little while ago but the £ was stronger and its all about conversion.

23 Aug 17 #82
It changed from all metal to metal with plastic top/bottom and the speaker/microphone grills at the bottom have 1 less hole on either side but overall positioning/dimensions are the same apart from IR blaster so that would be the only main difference when it comes to cases. Positions of the front sensors changed a bit as well though. Something to keep in mind if getting screen protectors with the 3 cutout holes for the earpiece speaker, camera, light sensor. And also if getting a smart cover flip case. The hall sensor shifted so auto wake/sleep function wouldn't work properly with MTK RN4 smart cover..

aliexpress.com/ite…tml

Has holes for both types of note 4/4x/4g (yes i can count but 2 body types and 3 phone types) and redirects the sound to the front of the phone.
As to chunkiness I find it a bit slim for my liking but they don't make any massive ones (mybat <3) I have big hands and slim phones are so hard to comfortably grip.
My other half has the same case and likes it as it really doesn't add that much to the phones size.
buttons are a touch harder to hit if I were to pick a fault but its not that bad.

I think they've actually adapted it slightly to fit both the original Mediatek version and the Snapdragon one. Mine does have the now-pointless hole in the middle at the top, but the hole to the right of it has been enlarged so that there's space for both the repositioned IR blaster and the secondary mic. Otherwise I presume the exterior design was pretty identical, because it fits fine. There's nothing I'd want to access that's become inaccessible, the speaker/mic holes at the bottom line up, and the power/volume buttons on the side work.
dreadzone101
23 Aug 17 #79
That case isn't for the RN4 Global Version. The Global Version is a 2nd iteration with Snapdragon. The original RN4 was Mediatek and had a slightly different housing. Cases advertised for just "Redmi Note 4" are almost all going to be for the original Mediatek housing therefore won't fit properly. The Snapdragon RN4 is known as Redmi Note 4X in China, therefore you should look for cases for Redmi Note 4X instead. Example: banggood.com/UCA…tml See 4th image. One of the differences is that the IR blaster moved from the top centre over to the right hand side, so if your case is RN4 and your phone is RN4 Global Version, then your case will have a hole in the middle top edge, that doesn't line up for anything.

Which case was that? I bought this one - amazon.co.uk/gp/…9P/ - which just arrived and on initial impressions I like, but it doesn't redirect the sound anywhere.

By the way, since the update to Nougat, United Kingdom is available as a region to set for the phone. I don't think it makes any actual difference, but you can change it to that in Additional Settings if you want to.

To other questions above, yes, it should work fine out of the box. You can install custom ROMs if you don't like MIUI or want something else in particular, but I found no real need. There's probably a few apps on there that you wouldn't want if you were starting from scratch, but it's minimal bloatware compared to some major brands over here.

I'd make sure you're getting the Global version, though. Personally I feel much more comfortable with one that's sealed from the factory, rather than had an international ROM installed by the seller.

Like dreadzone101 says its not really noticeably different.
the update was pushed last week, I have mine set to America.

22 Aug 17 #72
The recent Nougat update for SD RN4 isn't a major update. It's not Global MIUI 9, yet. It's 8.5 so it'll look pretty much the same. If you've updated your phone recently, you might be on Nougat already. If not and you're still on MIUI 8.2, I think updates depend on which region/locale you have your phone set as. Some regions appear to push out them out quicker than others. Try setting it to Singapore and then check updater. It is one of the market regions for the Global Version RN4. If it still doesn't show up, you can download the update from here< and then update it with "choose update package" from the updater app menu (top right 3 dots).

22 Aug 17 #71
How did you get the update? When I go to the updater it says no updates available
Syst3mzero
22 Aug 17 #70
I went with the 4gb ram 64gb storage option.
I really couldn't say how it stacks up against the nexus 4 as I never had one.
I have bought 2 of these and no mic issues.
If you buy one ensure it is Global version as Global has full support for our networks, If you get a non Global version you won't get 4g.
It has compass.
It got the android 7 update last week so you can now update it to 7 without a custom rom.

Some of the pics I have taken people have assumed have been done with a good camera. however I'm not an average joe when it comes to photography as I did take photography at college and so I understand the limitations of the camera and the best ways to get a good pic, my other half cant get a pic as good with this phone but even with a good camera cant outmatch me in most circumstances using this phone. I think my verdict would be don't use auto settings on camera for anything but well lit subjects and don't expect to take good selfies in a nightclub (luckily I'm too old and ugly to go out clubbing and/or take selfies).

22 Aug 17 #69
nail on the head. its my one gripe with this phone.
luckily I like having a case on my phone as I find phones without a case too slim for my hands, the great thing about the case I got is it redirects the opening for the speaker and now I don't accidentally cover it anymore.

hey, last time someone was saying things like this it turned out they had thought they had the global version however they didn't, have you checked both the rom and the processor?

in setting/about phone;
Is miui version listed as global?
Is cpu deca or octa?

And just to check in settings/sim cards &mobile networks, do you have VoLTE on or off?

Please don't take offense to my questions (so many bad HUKD experiences in the past) my only intention is to help.

I fancy buying one of these but there's so many versions of the phone. I don't want to root the phone as I'm not sure how easy it is to do and don't want to brick the phone.

I'm on the 3 network and ee network so phone needs to be able to pick up those frequencies.

Any ideas the major differences in these versions? By the way, I'm a massive fan of xiaomi. Got their fitness bands, yeelights, really impressed with the quality of their products.

Hi, it's a few months ago, but if memory serves these are the steps:
1. Identify which specific model you have (Kate/Kenzo) as each have different bits e.g Snapdragon, Mediatek processors
2. Unlock the bootloader.
3. how to install TWRP Recovery and root Redmi Note 3 see also TWRP 3.1.0-0 for Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 This was the tricky bit and took me a few go's to get TWRP installed.
4. Once you have TWRP installed, pick a custom ROM. I picked Pure Nexus but you can try others.

It's a faff, but once you get a custom ROM on you won't really look back. It's just the initial effort required to get the bootloader unlocked and get TWRP installed. If you are a PC user it should be a doddle. I have a MAC which meant I had to borrow a PC which took me a while getting used to.
Good luck.

Bought this from Banggood and been using it for a week or two now and very impressed. No issues with my mic, for what that's worth. Haven't really used the camera yet so can't comment on the quality there (but it's not a priority for me anyway). Only thing I'm not particularly impressed by is the sound, which comes out of one small speaker at the bottom (and is easily covered by a finger you might be using to hold the phone). But you don't really buy a mobile phone for the audio quality, and I was spoiled by the stereo speakers on the Moto G 2nd gen.

Otherwise it all moves very smoothly and has handled anything I've thrown at it. It is a pretty big piece of equipment as phones go, though. Make sure you actually want to carry around something with a screen this big.

I was in the same boat 2.5 months ago. I was running a custom ROM on my Nexus4 though (M). The phone is absolutely brilliant (mind you I am a light user - News, email, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, TV cast). Battery is a dream, for me it can last ~ 3x days (again light user). I bought the 3/32 when it was £133 (with 12.5% quidco already paid) and it was an excellent deal IMO. Two weeks ago bought the 4/64 for my wife (fantacy flash sale £141 black model - 8% quidco tracked) and she is very impressed (light user).

I upgraded because my N4 was struggling to hold battery charge and wanted a bigger screen. N4 was 4+yo and I could justify the upgrade.

Upgraded my wife's 2.5yo Sony Z2, because I will recycle it to my dad.

If you have the money, I'd definitely upgrade your N4. If not flash it with Lineage ROM which I've done and keep it as spare phone/car satnav.

Ok guys,I'm gonna ask this, have been looking at these Chinese phones for a while.and I'm totally confused as to what model to get.

Apart from 5.5" 1080p screen,,3gb ram, more memory 8gb Vs 32gb ,,are these note 4 phone a big upgrade from the nexus 4 phone? processor is better, its camera I'm not sure about?, software I'm on 4.4.4 this seems to be on 6, better.

I've only just been alerted to the mic issue, so that's a little off putting.

I'm also looking at the Moto G5 plus,, but I guess I want a compass for maps which I use often, but the Moto has near vanilla android. Not a big deal a skinned version,, also the honor 6x..how does this compare to them?

Thanks in advanced.

Bought this phone from aliexpress 2 weeks ago, it arrived really quickly and having used it for about 3 days i really am amazed at how good it is for the price i paid (£119 at the time)

It has alot more features that i would actually use not just gimmicks and the battery life is just wow! 2 days easily on one charge.

Cant say ive experienced any issue with anyone not veing able to hear me during a call, maybe i got lucky with that.

Only thing i dont quite like are some of the UI features, for example the way notifications are displayed on the lock screen but it was easy enough to use a launcher and custom lock screen.

Quite often the microphone issue is a hardware fault with the microphone itself. The USB port module that the mic sits on is quite easy and cheap to replace.

I'm afraid you can't post that.

You have to wait a couple of days then post it as a deal, it ensures there are as least 3 concurrent deals running on the Note 4 at any one time, we all take it in turns to post a deal. ;-)
jnm21 to winchman
18 Aug 17 #29
What are you on? Having read that a few times, I take it that it was an attempt at humour?

What confuses me is that it isn't the cheapest price, yet people post it & others vote it hot!!! When looking for the gold colour there is no excuse - search 'note 4 global' & sort by price, ignore about 2 that are 'global rom' with no band 20...

I don't post good deals that aren't massive deals (simply no point as anything a few percent cheaper is iced by those miffed by people posting deals that don't save them hundreds of pounds - basically your attitude - and the sheep who follow the first few votes). It should be called hotukmisprices.

If that be the case, then that would be really REALLY ironic, huh? (considering that the exact same Product is being flogged via the exact SAME Retailer/Merchant too etc?), hehehe.

I'm viewing this on my phone at the moment (+ your link too), it's showing US Dollar's only, and I'm unable to see/change it to UK Pounds Sterling, to be able to now see the fullness of your above statement (sadly). :-(

Is there a way to do that 'change' via a mobile phone device, or whatever?.

Try 'show desktop site'.

This deal $145.24

The 1st one I came to is $141.98 - just over $3 or about £2.50. Would hopefully cover a case! : )

It isn't the same name of seller, but you may know more than I do about sister companies!

EDIT comes out at £114.47 vs £111.90 if you let AE do conversion (slightly better rate than XE.com at present, which is a surprise). EDIT3 Misread the XE.com - about £4 cheaper at XE.com rate - if you have a good no-exhange-fee card, use that & pay in $.

EDIT2 both black & grey over £3 cheaper.

Yes, got my wife the 4GB/64GB version and she's absolutely made up with it! She had a Huawei P8 (not lite!) before, which was a flagship phone when released and thinks the Redmi Note 4 is quite a lot better in every aspect except the camera (which is still perfectly fine for what she uses it for). She's a pretty heavy user and gets a good 2 days out of the phone between charges. These phones represent the best bang per buck in the mobile market IMO.

There's an issue when you make a hands free call. When you speak into the mic the other person cannot hear you. There's a fix that I posted in the Ask section (I can't remember how to do it off the top of my head) but I can't find it.

I had this issue. Rooted and installed a custom ROM which resolved the issue. From the research I did I think the issue is software related and not a hardware failure. It seemed to occur with updates to MIUI. It was a bit of a faff going through the root process and getting a custom ROM installed, but it was immediately running the latest version of Android. The ROM community support is one of the main reasons I tell people to buy a Redmi Note phone.

The Xiaomi redmi note 4 has a major problem with the other party not being able to hear you clearly at all, unless you you only talk using a car kit or some other method.
