They did offer me a £30 deal for the same package, but to be honest for 18pm more I get a free SIM sky movies, landline and unlimited 40mb fiber. I would never use sky again.

One lady at sky even refused to cancel my contract because she should have finished at 8pm and it was 8.45. fing unreal.

Gosh you had it even worse than me,I just kept referring to their terms and conditions over and over again making myself feel like a t*** on the phone for an hour and half and eventually managed to get out of a locked contract for double the price I had signed up for !!
They are so rude on the phone when it comes down to either paying them less or cancelling,I swore not to have sky years ago when I remember what a faff it was to cancel but now that they tried to breach our original broadband contract because I took an offer out on a tv package (also falsely sold me credit on the phone just to put the order in and had to chase them up about that) they are such a shocking company I don't know how they get away with it!

If you have the BT Hub 5A (doesn't work on the 'B' version) install Lede (Openwrt) on it and you can use it with sky fibre instead:- openwrt.ebilan.co.uk/vie…572
chigger1 to melted
27 Aug 17#13
Forgive my ignorace, what does LEAD (Openwrt) firmware do compared to what's already on the BT HUB?
melted to chigger1
27 Aug 17#20
Lede is a fork of Openwrt, which is a linux distro designed for routers. Lede has better support for the BT hub5a than the current Openwrt distro.
The standard Firmware on BT hubs supplied with BT broadband contracts is locked to BT ISPs, so you can still use it if you switch to Plusnet, but not with Sky and most other ISPs.
The Lede/Openwrt firmware isn't locked, doesn't have the highly limited user configurable options of the original firmware, can have additional packages installed, such as OpenVPN, and support for numerous DDNS providers. It also supports WDS or can be set up as a wifi client. You can even change the colours of the LEDs if you want.
The main downside is it is more complicated to configure.

For Adsl customers, Sky allow you to use your own modem without needing to do that. Only caveat is that if you phone them up with a problem, they won't entertain you until you plug the SR101/102 or Q Hub in to the test socket. So keep the Sky modem incase you ever need to call them.
This the the details that need to be matched in your own modem settings before it will connect up:

I got this (or a very similar) deal last year which offered a prepaid card. This offer just reminded me that I never recieved that card. I'll contact them now and see what the score is.
The broadband itself is fine. I reci ved the router as in the picture above which struggled to connect to devices upstairs (the router is downstairs). When they put the prices up slightly a few months ago I used that as leverage to voice my complaints and they sent me a free sky Q router. It worked very well at first but we have since moved to a slightly bigger house and it won't connect at all upstairs.
I have one of those free WiFi extenders from sky from a while ago and that struggles to stay connected to the router, if at all.

I'm with Sky for both tv and broadband
TV is sports but no movies. Pay £39 for this.
And unlimited ADSL broadband which currently us £19 a month but will go upto £28 in October.
The tv contract still has a bit of time to go. So can't cancel this.
But want to possibly change from ADSL to fibre. Need better connection than I have for gaming and also streaming as It is always buffering and is very painful.

Any recommendations would be great.

I'm with Sky for telly, 25 quid a month all channels including sports, movies and box sets till September next year and have been on that tariff since April last year, then I pay 14 quid a month I think on top for multi room so we get a second Sky Q box in our bedroom.
Internet with BT which is unlimited fibre, unlimited calls and BT sport is around 45 quid a month for a 12 month contract but we did get a 200 quid pre-paid BT MasterCard and 100 quid casback on Quidco which has been honoured when we took that deal in March with the calls and sport being optional so work out yourself what it would work out over the year without those add ons
But don't listen to me, let the BBC loving Sky haters tell you what a stripe up Sky are hmmmmm more like they can't negotiate a good deal to pay for stuff worth watching but are happy to weigh on 150 quid a year for liberal biased programming some of us don't ever watch :unamused:

Spot on,I can only imagine hundreds of thousands of people are paying over the odds for sky because of the cancellation procedure they have in place,it obviously works but it's such a disgusting way to get more money out of people. Ok at the end of the day companies like to keep paying customers and it's the cancellation teams role to persuade people leaving, only in sky's case from my own personal experience does this persuade turn into force and only after much stress do they let you leave.
I don't believe sky will ever change and the best we can do is share our experience with others so they don't make the same mistakes!

I am not sure, as far as I knew it was any live tv at be it terrestrial or through cable/dish. It's actually rather ironic, some might even say hypocritical, of me to be piping up about it because we get the licence free now.
Nothing to do with working for anyone or a shifty move, my mum is very sick so she lives with us and since she's been registered under our roof from March this year because of her age we get it on the Freddie Freeman's  I still don't watch any of their channels though, even she seems to watch the ITV one that shows all the old stuff like Minder and the Sweeney so it is proper saucy we are still required to have one.
Seen plenty of videos on youtube of people playing the tv detector people but I don't know the exact legal small print and have never gone to them lengths, just always paid it with the most gritted of teeth.

I've had Sky 40MB unlimited fiber for 8 years now and honestly to my knowledge I've never had any issues with it, I've never noticed any speed capping despite being a power user so to me Sky's internet is absolutely brilliant.
It's a shame I can't say the same about other parts of their service though, the sky hub I have doesn't support 5ghz wifi and apparently it violates their T&C's if you use an alternative router, so I'm I'm forced to use it, also our sky TV box is on the fritz and despite paying sky £50+ every month for 8 years of service they told me I have to pay a fee for a replacement box or upgrade to Sky Q for £199, what a load of rubbish! The sky TV box is failing due to old age... I should be entitled to a free replacement at this point.

Just my experience but..stay away from Sky Broadband...
I made the mistake of leaving Plusnet earlier this year (after hearing the £1 increase). I was lured in to sky by their £10 a month offer they had at the time.
As soon as sky was connected, I noticed a massive drop in speeds (even after the 10 period). I noticed a bizarre thing as well, when having more than 1 device connected. For example i would be streaming a movie on nowtv which was fine, however the bandwidth was then cut for any other device in house. It made simple browsing on my phone impossible. Same would happen if i was downloading a file on the pc, the whole internet came to a halt for everyone else. Never experienced bandwidth issues like this with plusnet.
Anyway, before my 30 day period was up i went back to plusnet and couldnt be any happier.

They didn't charge us anything, just locked us in to the 25 quid a month non contract we were paying on the HD for 18 months on the Q. So absolutely nothing really seeing we upgraded to Q in March and that pony a month for everything deal they gave us last year was running to September next year.
I am an existing sky bb customer. Can I take it in my wife's name as a new customer?
If so, Should I cancel first and then apply in my wife's name?
How much of a gap should I keep when I cancel and new install date.
Is it possible to keep my existing number in this procedure?
I cancelled last year (took 15 mins - I find the less you faff the less they do) and two weeks later I set the ball rolling in my Mrs' name. Was without service for about 2 days, but saved a mint.
If you choose Fibre BB, then it'll probably be £28.99.
Existing Sky Fibre customers: £10/mo OFF your bill for 12 months
Save £120 with FREE Unlimited Broadband from Sky for a year - existing customers [Line rental payable at £18.99pm]
And their service is terrible, went from 18mb down 1mb up with Talktalk to 11mb down 0.3mb up now with Sky (it's been 9 months and no increase in speed).
Will be leaving as soon as I get the chance.
