So I was looking around for some plugs to work with Alexa, and came across these, this starter pack on Amazon is £69.99. On BT shop there is £3.49 delivery.

Good find op. Postage is free if you choose standard and you get a three day window when it will arrive.

I wouldn't buy these again. Go for the TPLink plugs instead, way more reliable. Good price though.

New to this stuff does the tp link need a gateway thing or is Alexa direct to the socket?

No hub needed. Alexa controls the socket directly after some setting up on the app.

I have these. Really unreliable. I wouldn't recommend them. Spent a fair bit on building up the collection, wish I chose a different brand.

FWIW, I got this deal from the BT site quite recently. So far so good and they work well with Alexa.

Also bought a set of these when this price last year - wouldn't recommend either - the hub is actually just an rf transmitter - it's not great and doesn't always reach like wifi would.
The app also cant tell if something is on/off - it just sends the "on signal" and assumes it worked.
Slow, clanky, - would wait for wemo to or something without a hub to come on offer and get those instead

I have a lightwaveRF system and same problem no feedback to tell the hub if the command works, also recently one of my sockets has been rather temperamental at responding to the off command, that's now 3 out of 6 that have gone bad so I wouldn't recommend those either. - amazon.co.uk/Lig…ket are the ones I had.
Seems quite hard to find some decent quality ones that don't cost a fortune.
