Just a short open beta for the game on PC. Get an idea of how it plays before launch and how it runs on your system. Heads up because I haven't seen it mentioned on the site yet.
16GB download and you need the Blizzard Battle.net client.

Runs beautifully on the PC and appears to be really well optimised - worth giving it a go whether you're a new player or returning from the consoles!

The AI on this is awful, just the same as the first - 2 enemies standing next to one another, shoot the one standing 6ft away from the other... no reaction at all.
I liked the first, but honestly see little in the way of progress with this.
I'll grab it when it's £20, purely for the RAIDs, vault of glass was still one of my most memorable gaming moments.

You can already pick it up for ~34.99 on CD keys so won't be far off! Agreed that the AI isn't the best but the game provides a reasonable amount of entertainment
There's a bug with the current driver's (fixed by latest beta) with Vega. The game itself is beta, it'll run fine on the hardware come release.

Nothing to do with being Nvidia sponsored, obviously.

What did you think of the SC 3.0 demo ? Will be out October do you reckon
The_Hoff to chapchap
30 Aug 17#16
I'm forgetting about SC until it actually arrives. The Gamescom stuff looked pretty great for the most part, but a long way off complete.

Don't suppose many will know but worth a shot, anyone know if its the same 2 games that you can play on the demo that it was on the Xbox.

I think the Control multiplayer 4v4 map is different. The PC map is Javelin-4.
The Strike is the Inverted Spire, which I think is the same as the PS4 / Xbone beta.

Beta works fine on my rig. Hoping Nvidia tweak even more performance out of it before release. But currently no issues on highest 1440p on a gtx 1080 gaming z. Currently averaging around 90fps with a min of 70fps.

I thought it looked stunning, works great in 21:9. Shame I bought it for ps4 lol, might have to invest in pc version eventually

Game is trash and will flop within the first 2 months, just like the 1st one. It's a great game on paper but once you're in, you're met with long load times, poorly designed (sometimes completely clueless) AI and bullet sponge mechanics where 'elite' units just have a secondary health bar and absolutely 0 replayability.
I mean honestly it's like they learned absolutely nothing from the first game which is enjoyed by an extremely small player base and even that is mainly targeted at PvP which is also desperately imbalanced (looking at you Hunter).
Like others have said - i'll grab it when it's inevitably flopped and is really cheap.

I'd hardly say the first game flopped. It sold a bucket load.
steve_bezerker to bisoner
30 Aug 17#19
Of course it did. It was supposed to be a game changer. How many of those people returned it after they completed ALL content within a week. How many people shelved it after less?
I'd bet 70-80% of the player base.
sadbuttruee to steve_bezerker
30 Aug 17#18
so the Destiny population of 9,516,228 tracked players over last week or so is a flop? :nerd:
steve_bezerker to sadbuttruee
30 Aug 17#20
Incorrect information.
That's not tracked last week, that's all time. Yes. Flop.
I've just checked the guardian.gg website and it's only reported 169k players in a single day. That's just over 1 million players in a week- assuming they get a new 169k players every single day (which is extremely unlikely). The population is probably actually closer to 250k by now. Oh dear.
sadbuttruee to steve_bezerker
30 Aug 17#21
hardly a flop though is it? those numbers you quote are still impressive after all this time since release - so fake news dude - it's okay to dislike something but calling Destiny a flop is just incorrect
steve_bezerker to sadbuttruee
30 Aug 17#22
Are you seriously suggesting that a 250k player base is impressive after only 2-3 years? World of Warcraft still has 8 million subs and is 13 years old. Starcraft 2 has a few million and is also 7 years old. GTA V has a crap load of online players and is also 4 years old, which is still a year older than Destiny. Hell there are more people playing Runescape than there are Destiny and that game was in development 20 years ago.
For a game that was supposed to 'change the face of gaming' it's done absolutely nothing but present itself as a run of the mill halo spawn and disappoint fans of the franchise world wide.
I guess the fan boys forget that the game was about 1 week shy of becoming another No Man's Sky where 90% of the community stand around in the main city with nothing to do and nothing to farm, everybody having BiS gear and full faction rep.. If they didn't release the Vault of Glass when they did the game would have died on the spot. The game is fundamentally flawed and was critiqued as such. You only have to google 'Destiny Reviews' to see that it scored like 60/100 on most websites which is in today's standard a huge flop.

30 Aug 17#26
I'm seriously suggesting that calling Destiny "a flop" is BS, regardless of your opinion of the game (I don't disagree with the criticisms you make, just the "flop" bit)
anyway back on topic - the beta plays great on my i7 pc, gtx 1080 & 144hz monitor - no crashes, no issues - that said I have ordered it for the pS4 and will probably play it on that, that's where the player base will be

You really don't understand data. Do you?
World of Warcraft had 5.5 million subscribers by the end of 2015 and that had been steadily reducing from 12 million in 2010. And finally Blizzard decided to stop publishing figures as it didnt like it very much. Where on earth did you get the 8 million number from? And that is not the active number of players playing at any time. Its quite less and so much less that Blizzard had to combine servers across the world to make available players.
On the other hand Destiny has more than 9.5 million subscribers in just a matter of couple of years since destiny tracker came online. Can you imagine the number of players that got the game in the first place? And the active unique player base across PvE and PvP is more than 600k even now when there has been no content launched for the game for ages. Compare that with May when the more than 1 million unique player base was logging in everyday.
Calling Destiny flop is so lame and stupid. Why do you even bother coming to this page if you think the game is not worth it? Do you really think you calling something a flop without any evidence whatsoever is even needed or appreciated by anyone who wants or aspires to play destiny? NOOOO And lets say from a business point of view, do you think Activision or Sony would get into a 10 year deal for Destiny if it was a flop already!!!
And lets say even if you have your opinion about a game, its fine. Write a review. Can you do that? No, coz you cant write your opinion, is it? So , please save us the trouble and let others who have experienced or want to experience the magic of one of the best games ever created, live their life in peace and play the Beta and see for themselves.
Yes, I love this game and various other games and i dont call a game shit coz i dont play it. And being grown ups, theworst you can expect is people to argue over which game is flop and which is a hit.

I never played the first Destiny but was pleasantly surprised by this. Looks good, runs well. Movement seems a little clunky but that may be because I've been playing a lot of Quake recently. I might pick it up when it's on sale down the line to play with a steam controller.
Is the controller aim bot supposed to be working with mouse and keyboard? I could have sworn it was jerking my crosshair around even though I had the steam controller in a mouse and keyboard config.
edit: In case anyone is wondering about regional pricing the standard edition is ARS 999(£44.47) on the Argentinian website so no cheap deal to be had there.
It sold 5.67million copies and still has 169k unique players every day almost 3 years after release and you call this a flop? It's probably doing better than most console games.

Lol I think you mean just you. I logged over 1000 hours on the first one. It was a great success and has one of the biggest communities of any console game. I get you did not like but that does not make it a flop. Oh and just to add it is not even on PC yet so don't quote PC communities to compare.

They were lucky they recovered from the crappy first DLC and the "hang on, the content is actually already on a disc, since day 1" debacle.
I played through each DLC barring the final one, 700 hours or something daft. Buying the sequel doesn't excite me and it probably should.
