It's an i7-7500u laptop which means it's 7th generation. Both Amazon and AO.com confirm this.

No big deal as not much better than 6th generation and still only a 15W dual core.
Intel are releasing quad core for U series but not until Q4 of this year or later.

Really struggling to see the reason for this. It's too in between. It's using the headline i7, when it's really an i5 in terms of performance. It's heavy for an ultrabook, but low end GPU. IMO this is a jack of all trades but a master of none. Personally I'd go one or the other.

Looks like a bit of an oddity in the Zenbook line-up. The GT 940m and mechanical hard drive has really bulked up the chassis and added a kilo of weight. Seems like a step backwards compared to previous models.

Very tempted to buy one but worried about reliability as never owned an Asus laptop before. Their CS hasn't got good reviews online so not so sure I wanna go there.

I'm guessing the 2-in-1 aspect is more for "tent mode" i.e. movie/tv/netflix watching, rather than actually using as a tablet. Still the spec is great for the price!

2.26Kg seems a bit heavy for a 2-in-1 unless they mean you can damage both you wrists with one tablet?
